Omg! My 3 and a half yr old son has the exact same dump truck and it his fav toy!! It has been since he was about a year old. He crawled with it, then walked with it, and now runs around the house with it! Lol. He calls it the Big Daddy Truck.

I really liked the dump truck. But I could not find this on Amazon. Can you please share a link or tell me where I can buy this from? Thanks!

I bought those at a local craft store in wedding aisle. They're meant to be used as table numbers/centerpieces. I have also seen them on Etsy.

I love you play area. We live in a small apartment so there is no play room. All of my kids toys are in their room. How do you teach the kids to play with one basket and put the next up? I have three soon to be four kids. My kids will bring the baskets together and pull them together to play. It’s a mess and I find myself having them clean as soon as they are done. My son (6yo) and daughter (4) will get upset and say stuff like “I want it out I’m still playing” or “but I don’t want it put up” This would be no issue if we had a playroom however all the toys end up in the living room. 🙃

It's a routine thing, staying consistent in reminding them to pick up after themselves and trying my best to hold back on cleaning up for them. I offer to help them, but never clean up for them. We've implemented Montessori style shelf work activities into our home since they were younger; therefore, that philosophy of pulling a work tray off the shelf and placing it back in its place once the work is completed, has transferred over to their "play". My children also often say that they're not finished with their play/toys, and when they do I try to respect their play and allow them to keep out what they've created. However, it doesn't go past the evening time and cleaning up before bedtime routines. Which leads me to my next note, having a daily rhythm or routine, where you tidy up as a family helps a lot! We tidy up as a family right after dinner. The kitchen, living area and playroom- it's a routine at this point. I hope this helps!

I don't really see the issue. If children are playing happily, why don't just let them? I remember my sister and I used to play for hours and hours on end and our room floor was often covered in toys. My parents never forced us to tidy up when we created something and wanted it to leave till the next day. Sometimes it took us a whole day to build something up and we only just started the real play. We did tidy up loose bits that weren't part of our creation. I don't really get why you would want things to be tidy all the time as a parent, I believe it prevents deep open ended play for your children. Even rotating too much out could prevent this. The point of rotating toys is that the toys they have, stay interesting and appealing. And also to make sure they're not overwhelmed by too many toys. But when they love their toys and are able to combine certain toys to create even bigger worlds, why rotate them? I personally would never rotate blocks or construction toys for example. The more blocks, the better. The same with small world play... sometimes children play better when they have quite a lot of one type of toy. Even with toys like lego or playmobil or barbies. When I hear parents say their child doesn't play with a certain set of a couple of pieces of playmobil for example and they discard the whole thing... I wonder if they ever created small worlds and played in them as a child themselves. For example it's much more fun if you're able to build a house with a kitchen, living room, bedroom, bathroom and play in it with your dolls then just having a couple dolls that you can only dress up. If you don't want too many toys I would just really dedicate yourself to 1 type of a 'small world play' toy.

Jennifer Ornelas locally, I check Facebook marketplace, thrift stores and children’s consignment shops before considering buying new. There are also a few worldwide buy, sell, trade groups on Facebook for more popular/name brand toys; my favorite is Waldorf Tag Sale.

New subscriber and I love your content but this seems like a VERY controlled environment. No gifts from family? When my daughter was around 7 she had a friend whose parents did not allow tv, kids characters or main stream toys. Whenever one of the kids had a party, they would all play nicely with one another but that particular little girl was so fascinated by the variety in toys and electronics in the home that she would completely withdraw from the group, sitting alone to play with the things she didn’t even know existed. I always thought it was a bit sad and extreme. Clutter is never good for the mind and a toy rotation is great, but being so particular with each and every toy your children are allowed to play with sounds like a bit much . Just my 2 cents.

Someone needs to inform this woman she is not a minimalist 😂 Not sure who she is comparing herself to but the furthest from it I have seen in the Waldorf community.
