Thanks for inserting clips/pics of how your kids play with the toys too

This video really helped me this past Christmas shopping for my two boys. I’ve been so discouraged for years with Christmas/birthday shopping because all toys sold in stores are cheap plastic dead end toys that are over priced. Also these brands have great ideas for Easter and Valentine’s Day as well as other holidays throughout the year! This video inspired and motivated me to buy more open ended toys for my kids. I’ve noticed my kids imagination and creativity start to climb by introducing open ended toys! Please keep sharing great videos!

This gave me so many ideas for toys to make for my baby boy when he gets older. As a carpenter and a woman who absolutely hates loud, flashy, battery driven toys I obviously want to make a lot of my kid's toys. If I have to buy something I want it to be good quality and to be fun for kids and to last unlike most of the crappy light up screaming toys my nephew's have that make me crazy... This honestly gave me ideas for my 9 and 11 yo foster kids too.

My favorite of Riley’s toys is her wooden animals. My son who is almost your daughters age watched this with me and was really interested in Riley’s marble tree. My favorite toy growing up was marble works. Hours of entertainment :-) However we have a 5 month old so I’m a little anxious about having marbles in the house.

The brand is Ostheimer- they are a German make and definitely stocked by some US stores as well - you can do a google search but I know Bella Luna Toys carry them. Another great brand worth looking into is Holztiger - they are similar but slightly different and people tend to prefer one or the other.

It seems a little overwhelming. Play is important, so you can spend an hour outside every day playing in nature with what nature has to give, an hour or two on life skills, an hour with a playgroup. It's true that toys are important, but we don't have to introduce everything at once. I appreciate the video though, It gives me some ideas.
@HarrietFitzgerald5806 жыл бұрын
laliday it does seem overwhelming. It seems like enough for a slew of children. Can't imagine what'll happen over the years, seems like there's enough to last a lifetime. 😅 I'm totally guilty of this too though, although to a lesser degree. My kid is going on two as well and honestly I know I've got too much. It's hard to not get caught down the never ending rabbit hole of toys. 😂🙈
@laliday6 жыл бұрын
@@HarrietFitzgerald580As long as we try. Kids get anxious when they receive too much. Sometimes they can't focus or can't play independently. It's not criticism of the video. I'm just trying to navigate this and find middle ground. I like some ideas I just plan to execute some things differently.
@HarrietFitzgerald5806 жыл бұрын
laliday same. It's all about trial and error. First world problems and honestly even a generation, certainly two, ago too many toys was not an issue. The toy market has truly exploded and kids are being marketed things younger and younger. Going into any store nowadays can be difficult as many stores are become superstores. I'm doing the groceries and there's now a kid isle.
@DianaMcNeill6 жыл бұрын
We actually do go on nature walks and play at the playground of course 😬. We’ve stopped going to playgroups as actually that environment was extremely chaotic and made Riley anxious - obviously every playgroup is different but the ones in our area aren’t the best - we opt to take her to soft plays, playgrounds and museums instead as she much prefers that. Helping with life tasks is also a part of daily life - she helps me with chores - when she wants - like doing dishes, cooking, mopping - in the ways a 3 year old can. Toys at home haven’t been overwhelming as we keep things tidy. She knows where things belong - where to find them when she wants to play and where to put them away when she is done. I’m not trying to say we are perfect - obviously life for everyone has tough moments. But you can’t assume we just stay shut in and don’t see and do things in the world from me showing her toys. I’ve only shared her toys as when I swapped her toys over to open ended from traditional types I saw a big improvement in her creativity and enjoyment. 🤗
@DianaMcNeill6 жыл бұрын
Natural Vegan Mom the irony is when we have parties or a few of her friends over at once I put toys away and leave out less. I’ve found ‘more’ for a ‘slew of kids’ to actually be more overwhelming. But for just my daughter - it’s fine as she knows what she has, where to find it and where to put it back. Her play is lovely and imaginative. I have zero regrets for the toy selection she has 🤗.
@NaturalAmericanBaby6 жыл бұрын
Totally agree with you. Playtime is so important and having open ended toys so children can use their imagination is the best. Where did you get the small wooden shelf on top of the Trofast with all the animals?
@DianaMcNeill6 жыл бұрын
The shelf is actually part of the playstand - it’s meant to go across the back of the two so you can use as a shop or something similar. I just use it all over the place...I feel like just a narrow set of shelves on their side could do something similar? It’s a very basic structure so could be made easily of your handy 😬.
@DianaMcNeill6 жыл бұрын
The playstand is a a German brand called Bio Kinder and it’s the Anna range but not sure if it can be bought in the US (I think that’s where you are?) as I’m in the US and had it shipped from Germany.

Thanks for the video! My favorite was probably the Black's Toy stacker. Wish I could get it here in the US. I went and looked at Black's Toys on the website you left below and now I want them all lol. My baby girl is only 11 months but she loves her Anamalz. Mostly just for mouthing. :) Oh and I would love to see that playstand video!

I think they will ship to the US but it would probably be expensive - but customer service is really great so they would let you know if you send them a question. The Blacks Toys are massively popular here - they literally sell out in minutes from being put on the site 🙈. If you are interested in trying to get your hands on a piece I highly recommend joining their babble Facebook page as they announce exactly when stock is due to go live...people literally wait online with their fingers hovering over the buy button to get some of these toys 🤣.

The wooden toys are great. I like the rocker/slide too. But children do not need a "play stand" It is more fun for a child to use ordinary household items and furniture to create their own pretend play space/ shop/ den etc. I think the Two enormous wooden frames are unnecessary. Children can build up great creative intuition if they don't have a ready-made frame and can invent their own spaces with the power of their imagination and a few ordinary household objects.

My favourite toys out of the ones you showed are the wooden animals, the reed flute/recorder and the grimms half circles. My favourite toy as a child wasn't a real toy, it was a long rope that was hanging from a very tall tree at my grandparents'house (I stayed there every weekend). It was attached to a branch about 9 meters above the ground and had a loop at the bottom, about 1 meter above the ground. Me and my nieces and nephews and my older brother and twin would use it as a swing or spin it around with one person standing in the loop or we would get bamboo poles and smack the rope around. My second favourite where all our dens, we would go there for "secret" meetings and make witch brews. My third favourite toy where my pens and I also liked my dolls and stuffed animals. I had more standard toys such as barbies, but I never really loved them (did love my lego, magnastix and K'nex but I was not encouraged to play with those "because they're for boys").
