The Book Thief is my favorite WW2 book. My mother grew up during the war in Germany, and I have heard many, many, many stories from her which I treasure, since she is no longer with us. She would tell me of how brave my oma was how she refused to "conform" to Nazism, got arrested and survived. Somehow this book takes me to that place, my mom, oma, opa and the rest of her family lived in. Great suggestions!! Thanks so much~ Karin

All the Light We Cannot See--incredible! Loved the movie adaptation too. The Boy in the Striped Pajamas--amazing. I did not realize there was a sequel. Thank you for sharing that.

I hope you like the sequel!!

Not surprisingly so many of your favorites are my favorites. I haven't read the Hazel Gaynor books you mentioned but did read and enjoy The Last Christmas in Paris by her, that one was focused on WW1. One you didn't mention that I enjoyed was Lilac Girls by Martha Hall Kelly. Nowhere near as literary as All The Light We Cannot See or Life After Life, it's still an excellent and eye opening book.

Yes I loved that one by Hazel as well!! Bawled my eyes out. For some reason she really pulls at my heart strings!

I've read most of the books you mentioned. I highly recommend Kate Quinn's books on WWII, particularly The Diamond Eye, The Huntress and Rose Code. They are about strong woman who served as decoders, spies, snipers and pilots (the last two are in the Soviet Army). All are exciting and stay with you.

I’ve read a couple of Kate Quinn books in the past!

A WW2 book that was a 5 star read for me last year was Only the Beautiful by Susan Meissner. Highly recommend!😊

Hi from Poland ❤ Because I grew up where I did, I had a lot of first hand contact with the history of WW II, through my parents and grandparents, through my history lessons at school and through non - fiction books on the subject. If I may offer the readers a piece of advice I'd recommend reading well-researched historical books and, most of all, memoires. As far as the Second World War is concerned there was so much inconceivable evil involved that no fiction may ever keep up with it... I'm particularly interested in the subject of Warsaw Uprising of 1944, in which most of the soldiers were very young people, teenagers and even children (skauts) and I have cried my eyes out over their TRUE life histories, I can tell you! As for "The boy in the striped pyjamas" I came across this opinion of Holocaust Centre North:"Many people who have read the book or watched the film adaptation believe that it is a true story based on real people and real events. However, it is important to understand that the book is a work of fiction. The events portrayed could never have happened." Having read multiple memoirs, I couldn't agree more. Wishing you the best of choices with WWII literature 💚💚💚!!! Beata

‘The rose code’ and ‘the nightingale’ are two of my favourites! Please check them out if you don’t know them! Both are amazing a centred on female characters during WW2 I’m currently rereading ‘all the light we cannot see’ :)

Recommending: The Curse of Pietro Houdini by Derek B. Miller (Italy during WWII. Beautiful and brutal, both.)

Haven’t read any in a long time…I got burnt out with all the ww2 fiction. I do the love Maisie Dobbs series and I want to read the boy in the striped pajamas.

It’s definitely a saturated timeline in fiction!

Ohmygosh. If you have not read Eternal by Lisa Scottoline….sigh. I gave it 5 fabulous stars. It was an amazing read. And I hardly give out 5 stars. I must betray you by Rita Sepetys The Invisible Woman by Erika Robuk. The only books I’ve ever given 5 stars.

I love Ruta Sepetys books; wonderful writing, almost lyrical, and the pathos of war is heartbreakingly portrayed.
