Sorry that it took me more than a year to upload anything new. This was mainly due to writers block when thinking of content to make as well as other things going on in my life (as well as quite of bit of laziness on my side).

9:53 I never realized this when learning about #19's trip to Sugarcreek before, but if you look at the cardboard cover on her driver side window, you can see "A #1 to Ohio" written on the side. How neat is that! Wonder who did it?

Since he already said that #1225 is the largest engine on his list, I'm guessing he might not be aware that two other large engines already mentioned here have also been in movies, namely NKP #765 (John Sayles' "Matewan" in 1987), and SP #4449 (Disney's "Tough Guys" in 1986). Hopefully I'm not giving away any spoilers, but another engine in Ohio, ex-GTW Mikado #4070 appeared in the first part of the Robert Redford movie "The Natural", filmed in 1983 in the Buffalo, NY area.

For the record only the fake smoke stack placed on 315 was also used on RGS 20, and 99% of 315s restoration was done in the park on the display track. Only a small amount of work was done in the D&S shops. Mostly on parts that could be easily moved or once 315 was moved to the D&S for final preparations before firing her up.
@TKSP4449 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the info. I assumed most of the work was done in the D&S roundhouse since it didn't say anything about its restoration being done in the park when I researched the 315 for my video.

FYI The Sierra Railroads 2-6-6-2 is actually called a Sierra. It is the smallest of the so called Articulated locomotives (with a tender) There are several (still in use) 2-6-6-2 T (Tank) locomotives. Their wheel arrangement is still considered the same name, (i think). the 2-6-6-2T locomotives are basically the same locomotive, less a tender. I know they never made the movies. This is a neat video. Please make your next one soon. You did a really nice narrative. ;-)
@scottyounger7948 Жыл бұрын
The 2-4-4-2 by the name of "Skookum" would like to have a word with you, she's also standard gauge and has her own tender. The Rio Grande also had a few 2-6-6-0s that they inherited from the Denver and Salt Lake when they bought them ought when back when.

OP&E 19 FTW 😎 Some fun facts lore too: 18 and 19 were both technically the same class of engine, build basically next to eachother between 1914 and 1915 😊 19 was found to have bullet holes in it's tender around the time it and 18 went to yreka, so it was given 18's original tender that had by then been swapping around some of mccloud's other mikados at the time! When 19 went to Yreka in about 1953, it and then later, 18 both replaced Yreka's older second-hand steam locomotives. 19 made some jots down to mccloud to run steam excursions in the 60's before living in Cottage Grove, and then some more after returning to Yreka from Oregon. 18 and 19 both originally ran the Yreka's "Blue Goose" steam excursions and regular freight services until 18 blew a cylinder which lead to its early retirement and later sale back to Mccloud, and then 19 needing work by around 68/69 which was made financially feasible by it becoming the main engine used on the OP&E's Blue Goose, and becoming the star of EOTN. (It's rebuild then being mainly funded by the movie studio who made the film and agreed to help rebuilt 19 if used as the star!) By 1970, Willis Kyle, who owned both locomotives decided to continue running the "Blue Goose" excursion trains in Cottage Grove, and the OP&E became 19's home for the next 17ish years! This ended up being where 19 became the most famous while staring in both EOTN in 72, and having a short role in Stand By Me in 85! 19 continued regularly running freight and passenger trains alongside other vintage steam and diesel engines from The Downtown Cottage Grove yard and Village Green Train Station to Culp creek in the mountains and back which ended up being a 2-3 hour train ride through some epic scenery and oregon history :) It wasn't until 1987 when the Goose made it's final run and 88 when 19 did end up returning to Yreka once Kyle and the lumber companies operating the OP&E could not reach any solid agreement on operating both the Passenger and then irregular Freight trains on the railroad 😢 It is a wonderful thought to dream about an alternate history where cottage grove's museum was able to continue, and Oregon's Blue Goose never stopped operating. Maybe today you would still have a chance to enjoy the train ride through the row river valley, and other engines that met worse fates after leaving the railroad may have been restored and may even be operating now instead of being scrapped or left to rot. Kyle's train museum was soon closed and the collection of engines and cars were spread out to a few private collections and museums throughout the US along with most of the equipment for the Goose train. 19 kept running the "Blue Goose" excursions and freight trains along the Yreka Western until around 2009ish, when the railroad experienced some even more unfortunate financial issues, and a small crew of guys who loved the trains kept 19 in good shape until the railroad unfortunately went out in 2016ish, and it was sold for 400k to the AOS roundhouse in Sugar Creek Ohio. Thankfully, 19 has been undergoing a wonderful string of rebuilds by the cool people at the Age of Steam Roundhouse ever since, but unfortunately, it's original whistle was either snagged by a crew member around 2009 or so, or possibly, unfortunately it may have been re-machined and have lost it's beautiful and unique sound. Hopefully the Blue Goose will get a chance to keep operating and have a long future from there and can get it's original voice back 😊
@TKSP4449 Жыл бұрын
Really? I always thought they might've been different mainly because of how they have different looking smokebox doors.
@mamarussellthepie3995 Жыл бұрын
@TKSP4449 From my super fun research, both engines seem to be the same class! 18 though, seems to have been given a different smokebox door sometime between Mccloud and Yreka! Why still eludes me though 😅 Maybe now that 18 and 19 are being rebuilt, they can both run together again in the future! What's your favorite thing about 19? 😊 Personally, my dad grew up around the OP&E, and shares fond memories of the Goose making its was through the row river valley with trains of log cars with its whistle echoing for miles and miles. His step dad was even the leader of the gang of cowboys who did the train robberies! Him and his forest service buddies volunteered and rode their horses into town at 4am to get ready to give everyone a wonderful show, dueling with the sherrif, racing out of pastures along the rail line, shooting paper wads at the train and robbing passengers of their conveniently placed goodie bags under the seats before riding off guns blazing! Super cool stuff that was continued in Yreka! Your video is wonderfully brilliant btw! 😁
