Sup everyone. So, a fan posted in my discord server asking for help with melodies, so I decided it'd be cool to continue the series and edit a proper video on the topic. Thus, for the 2nd installment of me roasting your songs, I fittingly bring you exactly 2 techniques. First I go over a very whacky (and very useful) technique where I just scribble random notes into the piano roll, and end up finding a hidden gem in there that helps inspire me for an actual melody. The second technique is more about the "call & response" style, and I also like to call it the "Mountain" technique. Both produce some really good results so, if you're a producer, I definitely would recommend you guys to try them out if you're going through a lack of inspiration. Very straight to the point, I give quick tips about melodies basslines, and chords.

Thank you Exyl, these tutorials are very helpful. I would like a sound design tutorial about how you make those epic leads, chords... I think sound design makes the 50% of your production, so It will be cool.

This is pretty neat. I have a few ideas for your songs… 1 - Use triplets in combination with even notes (this allows you to modulate energy/speed without tempo change) 2 - Maybe include tempo modulation (if you don’t already) 3 - Use different levels of syncopation/offbeats in the rhythms of your songs (low levels make it slower) 4 - Try different time signatures (even if it’s just 3/4) You probably know all of this, but these are just suggeeestions (that could elevate your uniqueness as a producer imo) It’s ok though, you don’t have to do any of this

DM me on discord! 1. Triplets are cool, just make sure to sync up the triplet rythm down to every element in the song (yes, even hi hats, even random loops) or else it will sound badly offgrid 2. I wouldn't recommend tempo modulation unless you're working with classical-type music, since in dance music it would just throw off the grid and make it impossible to DJ or dance 3. Yes, rythm is a very deep subject 4. Again time signatures are more commonly seen in classical music, maybe also in metal? In dance music it's very rare. The most famous example would be polyriddim by phonon tho lol

@@helixa-real if u say no music uses these basic techniques then ur looking at the wrong places. its no rocket science rly, there are plenty artists who use these kinds of techniques in their workflow. There are also specific artists doing some real experimental stuff getting the most out of the potential that modern daws have, stuff u don't hear in the radios.

One thing i love to do is lock my midi controller to a key (because its cracked like that) and start playing random melodies until i find something cool. Pretty much the random method but with a lot of quantizing involved
@exylsounds
@exylsounds 3 ай бұрын
Yup sounds like it'd accomplish the same thing. But you don't need a midi controller, I've been producing for 10 years with just a mouse & keyboard in the midi editor lol. My problem with midi controllers is that it adds unnecessary hurdles between you and the music. You have to develop the finger skills for a loooong time and it doesn't necessarily contribute to music skill, just piano finger skill. Not to say that finger skill is useless but, in my case since I plan on recording more than performing, I prefer midi editing directly.

@@exylsounds I've been going deep into learning that sort of stuff because I've been heavily inspired by artists like Glacier and Haywyre and want to delve deeper into the performance side of music. Honestly been having the time of my life in doing so.
@exylsounds
@exylsounds 3 ай бұрын
@@starrybook yep I enjoy learning piano too hahah but to me it's still a separate skill from actual music creation, because my fingers are a massive limiting factor on the ideas I can perform... I believe Haywyre has a whopping 15 years of experience. Lol maybe someday I can get on Haywyre's level

Come to think of it, the 3rds in each chord form a dissonant tritone interval... But it sounds really good. I think dissonance is fine as long as it follows a tension + resolution
