I remember getting it years ago I think around 2008 or 2009. I even bought the illustrated anniversary edition when it was released I enjoyed it that much. Anyways, from your list I really enjoyed Kings of the Wyld. I think it was a refreshing new take on fantasy and how the author sorta Incorporated music to the book. Also, the heroes here were not young but older. Then to top it off it had a good dose of humor thrown in. Can't wait for book 3 to be released.

Nice list. I'll have to add some of these to my ever expanding TBR :) However, I hated Kings of The Wyld. I'm a bit surprised it is something you love so much since the book is full of deus ex machina, which in a recent video you say is a trope you hate. That was one of my main problems with the book, but mostly the humor didn't work for me at all. I feel like that book is a love or hate because it's a very different type of story for fantasy, almost parody.
@PetrikLeo2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I think your last sentence pretty much explained why the deus ex machina in Kings of the Wyld doesn't bother me. Eames has mentioned several times that the book shouldn't be taken too seriously because that's really what he wants, it's mostly a comedy book, and he wants the readers to just have fun while experiencing some serious moments, too. However, if the humor didn't work already, it's quite likely that readers won't enjoy it, so what you felt is pretty understandable! :)

The blade itself is without a doubt the greatest debut novel iv'e ever read (in my opinion), although the poppy war is a close second, the name of the wind, i thought was a good book, possibly, just bordering on being a great book, i certainly don't understand the fanatical hype behind it, there's quite a few books her that i haven't read, so thanks for this list it'll keep me going for a while. On a side note, the audiobook version of "The blade itself" is read by Steven pacey and is an absolute masterpiece, probably one of the best narrations of a book i've heard, superb.
@PetrikLeo2 жыл бұрын
The characterizations on The Blade Itself is definitely one of the best to ever exist in a fantasy debut! I've heard so many great things abotu Steven Pacey's narration, maybe when I give the series another reread, I'll try the audiobook! :)
@ezriderzzr71042 жыл бұрын
@@PetrikLeo I would highly recommend it, it's even better (again in my opinion) than the genius of Roy Dotrice on "A Song of Ice and Fire" or Stephen Fry's Harry potter narration.

Blood Song was soooooooo good! I loved it! I too didn’t love the follow up books like I loved Blood Song and tho both were like 3 stars for me compared to how stellar Blood Song was they felt so far off. You’re making me want to reread Blood Song now I’ve gifted that book to several people as well.
@PetrikLeo2 жыл бұрын
Agree so much, Wjamimah! I don't think I've ever heard anyone prefer the second and third book to the first book. I think it just goes to show how immensely and widely loved Blood Song is. I've read it twice, and it seems like another reread will happen someday! 😄

Out of those two? I'lll keep The Raveling. Beautifully written, prose like that (once you read it you'll understand) in fantasy is hard to find.

I agree with Blood Song being fantastic, and the others being...not great. But for sure Blood Song can be a standalone.
@PetrikLeo2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I even wish Blood Song would remain as a one off standalone due to how good the first book was, and how disappointing the next were. The Wolf's Call is more of a return to form of Blood Song, but that's technically book 4 of Vaelin's story. Not many people have read it after being disappointed by Queen of Fire. :/
