I just learned something new with that last tip with the plastic bag. Will come in handy during the dry season where I live. I think the fear of water for our US-based sisters is due to the widely varying hair types loctitians have to deal with; from 3c to 4c. Where I live, the most common hair types are 4c and 4b. It's rare you ever see a 4a. So I never tell my clients to avoid water. Heck, you could literally finish you installation as a 4c hair loc head and go jump in a pool. Probably the only time I would advice staying away from water would be clients starting with comb coils or finger coils. Or 4b sisters who started with twists. Where I live, those are usually the minority. TFS.

This was definitely helpful to watch. As a newbie to microlocs, I didn’t realize that water could be bad. Everyone kept saying water helps them, but after being loc’d for 2 months now, I realized that maybe I was doing to much… 1st few weeks I was wetting my hair as soon as it felt a little dry. But now I’m just using a bit of oil and a bit of water in the mornings and leave it be. And yes I do need to start braiding/banding my hair at night 😂

Definitely needed these tips! I appreciate you! I interlocked using oil and water and although it wasn’t much I’m experiencing some unraveling. I’m going to braid and band to wash and relieve my hair of the oil, go through and twist and braid and try again lol. I’m a diy’er so it’s all a learning process.

i am a guilty spray girlie. every morning with my traditional locs i would spray with my oil and water, so of course i brought that method with me to my micro locs, now i know. i also havnt been braiding my locs down ....

Thanks girl! Loved your video, your tips are ones I hadn’t heard much before. My issue is my locs are the front of my hair are this weird texture so they slip and unravel all the time. How can I fix this on my own since I maintain my own hair?

Thanks so much I appreciate you! -You will have to keep them from getting wet. (Get a sweat band and put it on the perimeter) -when working out or showering- -You can always braid them until to keep some unraveling. (You will still have to keep away from “water”) -braid and band that section when washing and keep it braided until hair is dry.
