Hi Darren, I'm keen on getting a headstart on eng lang 1/2 this year and during the summer holidays (year 10)- any advice you would give/wish you had starting english language?

Though I didn’t study it, I’ve seen that 1/2 is quite different to 3/4. The only thing that’s really applicable is the metalanguage, so definitely learn that properly and make sure you answer the questions well during the year.

@@DarrenTan21 What do you reckon is the best way to learn metalanguage? Obviously memorizing from a list isn't going to be effective- maybe from a textbook with context?

@@markliu1879 im taking 3&4 this year and honestly it will come naturally, learning the metalanguage through using it in acs and essays helps you gain a really good understanding, better than flashcards or reading from a textbook would do in my opinion

Hey Mark, I reckon just making notes is enough in the summer holidays. Afterwards you use it a lot in short answer and analytical commentary and revise it naturally then, so I didn’t really sit down and memorise them.

Hey Ace! What rank does that put you in? In general you can definitely still achieve a 40+ study score - you have many sacs and the exam still to go

And sorry for the late reply on informal language - I’d say revise the metalanguage around informal language that’s on the study design, apart from that it depends on what your sac is on (ac, short answer, essay)
