I give Story of the World MASSIVE points for being something I can hand my kid to read aloud *to me* so I can see how he's doing with pronunciation. That's how we've always used it and it works wonderfully for that here.

We’ve had fun combining the activity guide of SOTW with History Quest - the history hops are my favorite part of HQ as well!

I got out of the hospital today and my book was in the mailbox! Havent read anything yet because I had so much to do when I got home but I'm excited to get into it. ❤

@@ARRRGHSchooling I am now, thank you. Mostly my appendix, nothing super serious. It was basically a mini-vacation. 🤣

Thank you, Emily! Have you used any of the How To Survive Middle School books (English, math or science)? If so, thoughts?

Not yet! I almost bought the science book, but decided we had enough science books in the house already.

I love history but my kids do not, so it’s a challenge. I am going to look at A Different Mirror for Young Readers for when we go back to US history in 8th grade. I am trying to get us through Ancient History as swiftly and deeply as possible so we can do some u it studies on modern history which I am hoping maybe stickier for them.

Love this list!! Thank you for sharing!! Curious to hear your thoughts on Curiosity Chronicles?? I am going back and forth between HQ and CC for next year. I think my kids would like the dialogue of CC but I’m so torn!

I've only looked at the sample of Curiosity Chronicles and we never used it - my kids have all aged out of it now. I wasn't a fan of the dialogue writing style, but it could perhaps work better as an audiobook. It didn't look like it would be fun to read aloud though.

Thank you for your perspective. And yes, agreed, I am not interested in reading it out loud my self...was definitely thinking of doing the audiobooks! ;)

Is The Story of the World version of BYL1 still available? We own SOTW and I really really love her writing style, so I'd like to use it when we do Level 1 next year.

No, I don't keep previous editions available after an update. However, in the near future I plan to go back and add SotW as an optional resource since it has been requested quite frequently!

We are considering History Quest US for next year. Do you think it needs supplement if my kids don’t have prior knowledge of US history? Thanks you

For elementary? No. I think as is it covers quite a lot of US history and gives a great overview. If you have older children using it, then yes, I do think you will want to flesh it out more. I believe the intended audience is elementary age - say grades 3 - 6. When we used it, we were using multiple texts, but my daughter was 13 and I don't know how to just use one book, lol.
