I LOVE Sennelier's Yellow Sophie. It's gorgeous, vivid, and bright. I bought it because I had to know what a paint called Yellow Sophie looks like. It did not disappoint.

I bought it based on your comment a couple of months ago and it's stayed in my permanent palette since then. I Love it so much, thank you. I also recommend isoindolinone yellow deep by holbein it's my only other yellow that I use (besides Naples yellow) and it's beautiful! Also Delft blue by grumbacher finest. The granulation is stunning and the color is so deep!

I absolutely love your video's and find them so helpful. It''s invaluable to see the color mixes swatched out so we can see how versatile each color can be. I am one of many who missed out on the Quin Gold, PY49, so sadly this beautiful color will never make it onto my palette. Because of this, it's unfortunate your #1 pick is a pigment (PY49) we can no longer get our hands on. Please continue posting these great, instructional videos!

My m graham azo yellow uses PY 151 🤔 I just recieved daniel smith's cadmium yellow and found them to be so similar in tone, I opted not to use daniel smith's cadmium until I use up my azo yellow. Upon further inspection into the colors, I noticed daniel smith's contains py151 in it, as well as py 53 & py 83.. no wonder it looked so similar to me and I cant justify having such similar colors in the same palette at the same time. 😅 i've been learning so much about pigments themselves and watching your videos is helping me understand the details of the colors more, which helps me understand why/ what it is that I like about certain colors. I'm slowly piecing together a palette that works for me at this moment, so thank you so much for all the time and effort you put into these videos. You have been and continue to be an amazing source of information on youtube. And for free. Bless your heart ❤

In Liquid Color ^^ wondering if next week in reds the sennelier French vermillion will appear :) considering it as warm red, since my cool one is pr122 and warm yellow will be either py65 or py110... Feels better choice than po71/73 orange since it sits more "in between"... But a bit scared of its power XD (on the other hand... Phthalos are powerful too and I love them all...)

Hi! Great video! I don’t focus on yellows very much in my watercolors, but my top 2 would have to be Quin gold (I only have Daniel smiths hue ) and nickel azo yellow, which makes up the DS Quin gold hue and DS Indian yellow. I find they are great for skin tones in portrait painting as well as creating the most beautiful greens I’ve ever seen. Yellow ochre and any variation of PR101 make beautiful natural skin tones as well and i use hansa yellow medium for my bright oranges. I was surprised at the greens that perylene green created when mixed with all these yellows! I’ll have to definitely incorporate that more into my painting! Thanks for another lovely video! I love this series! 💛

I have a row of high chroma paints, from the green to the orange side of yellow). PY129, 154, 150 and 110. I see 'pure' yellow as somewhere in between 154 and 150, how about you? Those paints dilute very well, if you don't want really eye poppin' yellow, you can thin them way down. I also like PV23 as a neutralizer for these paints, you get a nice gradation of darker and duller as you add more 23 (my fave is 154 and 23).

RIP PO49 & PO48 😢 Also, I don’t recall whether you ever mentioned it, but people should be aware: as much as I love the hue of Nickel Azo Yellow (PY150), it is INSANELY dispersive, which can make it very difficult to work with in the context of an actual painting- particularly, wet into wet. That means, let’s say you have wet an area of the paper… Maybe you’ve been painting some thin washes of greens for some foliage, & while it’s still wet you go to dab some N. Azo Yellow into the wash… Well, usually, as long as the paint you’re adding wet into wet is at least a little thicker/more concentrated in consistency, you won’t have any problems; the paint should just sit pretty much where you add it & blend softly with the surrounding colors, as wet-into-wet is known for… But that’s because most pigments are relatively inert- they are NOT particularly dispersive… Nickel Azo Yellow, on the other hand, is almost explosive in how dispersive it is. Even if you add only a small amount, it will spread rapidly outward, & can displace the other pigments you’ve laid down, potentially even filling up the majority of the wet area, & because it’s displacing the other pigments, it can leave an effect very similar to a backrun/bloom, much the same as if you’d dropped plain water into the wash (except it’ll have the color of the Nickel Azo Yellow instead of pushing everything aside & leaving white paper [unless there were staining pigments already dried to the paper, which might stay put]). Because of this unusual property, usually found in more granulating mineral-based pigments (I’ve noticed it with Minnesota Pipestone, Lunar Black, Green Apatite, & a couple of others, but Nickel Azo Yellow is one of the most dispersive I’ve ever tried), you have to be pretty cautious about how you apply it. Unless you’re intending to harness this property purposefully, I’d just avoid dropping it into washes wet-into-wet at all. It’s much easier to manage if you lay it down wet-onto-dry, or as a glaze on dry paint, or what have you. You absolutely CAN utilize these dispersive properties to great effect with all kinds of techniques, especially in abstract/expressionistic works, but it takes practice & intentionality to learn exactly what to expect & how to manage it rather than having it overwhelm & mess up an existing wet wash. One other consideration is that, because of this same property, it’s as if it exerts an outward force that expels other pigments more strongly than others. So, for example, if you lay down a wash of Nickel Azo Yellow, & then you drop another very dispersive pigment, wet into wet, into that wash, because they’re BOTH very dispersive, they’ll kind of counterbalance each other & create a homeostasis- the other pigment won’t flood into it the same way it would flood into a more inert, passive pigment. So by being aware of the properties of each pigment you use, you can work around some of these properties or use them to your advantage in some cases. It’s just an important factor to be mindful of, just like how staining/granulating a pigment is, or how opaque/transparent.

My favourites are Schmincke's Aureolin Hue (PY 151) which I use as a neutral-is yellow and Danial Smith's Nickel-Azo Yellow for its pushy nature. As I said in the other comment: now I'm also interested in the PY 154 (which Schmincke has as well). Maybe I'm gonna get that once the Aureolin Hue is used up (which is gonna take me a while - yellow is not a colour I'd use a whole lot)
