Looks like you're having Christmas early. You've got some nice kit there but I hope you don't use that horrible plastic pannier box. Looking forward to seeing how the windshield looks on the bike.

Hi Paul, I've decided the pannier box is going back. It is just as flimsey in person as it is in the photos. One other thing I neglected to mention about it is that it is also offset away from the rear fender quite some distance by that frame they include. So as well as being plastiky and right hand side only it also sticks out quite a bit. I didn't like that. Ah, there is now quite a few folk waiting on the video regarding fitting and testing of this windscreen which I will have to squeeze in soon ☺. Thanks for the comment.

Yes, the engine bars are industrial, but I think that's the charm of them but will protect the majority of the bike if you drop it, also hopefully it will protect your legs from damage. Looking forward to seeing the screen video, looks brilliant, be interested to see the results on buffeting before I splash the cash. I have the standard RE touring screen on my Stellar and although I like the style it's pretty useless at anything else! Beware when fitting the sump guard, the two under engine mounting bolts are a real pig and the size differs from the instructions, you'll need 14 and 17mm (from memory) ring spanners to undo and retighten the bolts as there isnt space for a socket. Be prepared for excess amounts of loctite used by the factory on the bolts too when undoing them. The engine guard is great and stops a lot of the crud from covering the engine. Great video as always, keep em coming!🙂👍

Hi Jonathon, that's another great point I neglected to mention in the video. The crash bars can potentially protect your ankles from a crushing injury if you were very unlucky with your foot position during a slow speed incident/fall. I am still wearing my RST Tractech III boots (still on the lookout for boots/shoes more befitting of a Meteor) so I am fairly protected and I usually wince when I see people riding in normal trainers. Noted about the screen, that seems to be one of the things people are keen to see the most, so I'll look to get it fitted and information released as soon as I can. Thanks for your comment regarding the sump guard and the spanner sizes, that will save quite a bit of swearing and back and forth to the shed to get tools. Thanks again for the support and comment. I would love to buy the yellow Fireball. For me it’s the nicest colour. I would add. 1. Fly screen. 2. Sump guard. 3. Touring seat. 4. Heated grips. 5. Crash bars. 6. Foot pegs. Pity, there is no option, to add the silver trim wheels from Super Nova model, as I feel that be a nice option, to have.
@MindfulMotorcyclist
@MindfulMotorcyclist 2 жыл бұрын
I agree with that, the Fireball looks excellent in Yellow and great tricked up with some nice extras. Bar end mirrors also look great on all variants of the Meteor. I like the polished spokes on the Supernova but I don't really notice day to day them if you know what I mean. As the Meteor becomes older there might be people selling second hand wheels or there is the option to customise them yourself too. Thanks for the comment 😊

I'm thinking of going down the Meteor/ Classic route next year. I travel light and never take a pillion so with that in mind I would ditch the rear seat for a nice rack to take Kriega DryBags. I too dislike the engine bars as they ruin the whole look, I dont think they need to be so big. I can take or leave the screen - you're never really going to get up to full speed for extended periods (well I won't) and have never needed a screen on any naked bike wearing a full-face helmet. I could wear and open -face easily on a Meteor. Yes to the Touring saddle and bashplate. Thanks for a great video. Very informative. Can you do something on the new Classic 350 please?
@seankearney6915
@seankearney6915 2 жыл бұрын
I went for the small screen primarily to protect the instruments. And for the riding I do the bash plate is more to keep the bottom of the engine cleaner, I don't expect to actually bash it.

Hi William, thanks for the comment. I share your views on most of these extras, I particularly like the sump guard and the touring seat. Perhaps you should opt for a Fireball variant provided you like the Red/Yellow fuel tank as then you won't get the bike equipped from factory with the screen or pillion seat, which will be unnecessary for your use. I think I would be better having no screen than the situation I have at the moment with considerable buffeting from airflow deflected off the touring screen variant. I am usually travelling between 40-60mph when the effect becomes noticeable and of course the faster the more pronounced it is. Thanks for your feedback and support and yes the Classic 350 is now on my 'to-do' list. Cheers

Watch out for the logo part on the engine guard - if you put the bike down (if your foot slips on gravel ) the central fitting with the logo on it - it will break and will not be replaceable.

Hi Edward, thanks a lot for this tip, so the engine guard is basically one-use then? I wonder if it could be strengthened or re-enforced in some way...

@@MindfulMotorcyclist It seems so as the RE accessories manager said it had done it's job at least once therefore it would not be covered under warranty. Also the part that snapped cannot be replaced as they only sell the complete assembly. I am going to re-engineer the part while the bike is in bed for winter !

I engineered a screw fitting that goes through the broken part pulling it together thus stronger than the original casting.

How did you get on with the touring seat? Luckily for me, the dealer demo bike had one fitted and I found it forced me to sit slightly more forward than the stock seat and the back really pushed into my coxis bone... I asked to sit on a meteor with a stock seat after the ride and found it so much more comfortable... Ended up buying the Stella Black model. I also purchased the Airfly EVO engine guard bar set up and a brushed chrome sump guard (although would have preferred the black one had it been available). I found the rear/ lower fixing bracket for the sump guard slightly too wide and when fitting it it 'bowed' as I tightened up the bolts... Quite a tricky fit these two items...
@MindfulMotorcyclist
@MindfulMotorcyclist 2 жыл бұрын
Hi JB, thanks for the comment. I had a CopperBeech Supernova which had the standard seat fitted from factory, this was very comfortable and then I 'upgraded' to the touring seat also in Brown. This was mainly due to the look more than anything as I liked the RE stitching. I found the seat harder and more uncomfortable but the one benefit is slightly more lower back support. Before selling the bike I changed back to the standard seat and if I had to do it all over again I would have kept it standard. With respect to fitting the sump and engine guard together, when you buy both items directly from RE they provide you with a longer bolt (perhaps 2cm longer) for the upper engine mount. This allows you to fit both sump guard and engine guard to said mount. The lower engine mount you don't have to remove the bolt just slide the 'hooks' of the sump guard bracket over the bolt and tighten up. I think you are right, it is very tricky to fit these items and it's one of the reasons I don't really make 'workshop upgrade' videos, most of the time I am scratching my head wondering how this fits. It also didn't help the instructions where printed on a folded piece of paper the size of a playing card! I hope you enjoy the 350 this summer and happy riding 😀

@@MindfulMotorcyclist Ah didn't realise you had sold your Meteor. Why did you part with it out of interest? Regarding the sump guard, yes I received the longer bolt which I used in conjunction with the engine guard fitting and I only loosened the under carriage bolt in order to hook on the lower mounting bracket of the sump guard of course... It was that bracket that was definitely a bit wider than it should have been and so it 'bowed' when tightening it back up...

@@handyjayes1 I wanted to do longer distance rides and some touring... I really liked the Meteor but for some bigger distances the lack of luggage and the top speed we're a little restrictive in my opinion.

Dear, it is not engine guard, it is leg guard. It is designed to protect your legs during crash. And it is designed to break during fall so that ones legs are not trapped between front mudguard, engine and the guard itself.
@MindfulMotorcyclist
@MindfulMotorcyclist 2 жыл бұрын
Hi there, thanks for your comment. It will also protect the bike from getting damaged. Royal Enfield market this specifically as an engine guard. I agree though it will help save your leg/ankle from crushing injuries.

Could you share your height? I'm 5'9" and was thinking of getting a "touring screen" but am concerned about buffetting. Looking forward to seeing your bike with the "Givi" screen and how well it protects. Thank you for the great vid. I have a Fireball Red here in San Diego, CA.

Hi Artie, thanks for your comment and nice to have an international viewer. I am 5'11'' so not that much taller and I have quite a bit of buffeting. The touring screen is £124 here in the UK, around $160 so it's quite a large investment if it doesn't do the job you want it too, or worst case, makes the buffeting worse. I will look to share my experience with the Givi as soon as I can. Thanks for your support and hope you are enjoying that Fireball in sunny California ☺

That box does look bad. I think there is a need for a decent rack to replace the rear seat. Then it should have a decent weight limit not a paltry 7kg as a passenger weights more than 7kg.

Hi Sean, thanks for the comment. The box to me is one of the poorest accessories on the list, I think I would exchange that for the deluxe footpegs and wait for better luggage options to be made available. I won't need luggage capacity until the spring so I won't opt for something right now. Thanks.
