This is one of the best iOS music videos I’ve ever seen. It’s the passion for the subject matter, the attention to detail and the fact that, you’re so well versed in the apps functions. I’ve been looking forward to this vid because I’d like a vocoder. I think Dervoco looks like the one for me. I fancy being able to play my guitar and make masculine robot voices and say demonic things when the Post lady gets to the letterbox. Mature.

Hej Jakob!

😅 . Tack för titten! 👊🏼

hi jakob! i love ivoxel too, and i hope the developers give an update to the app. also, in ivoxel you can use any input as the carrier wave using audiobus in a weird way. inside audiobus, in one channel set first a synth (or any signal) as input and ivoxel as output, in another channel set the mic as input and ivoxel as output. then in ivoxel choose auidobus as wave and activate the mic, that's all! sometimes works weird, but it works!

Another great sounding vocoder is on a pretty much forgotten about modular app that never got the credit it deserved is Jasuto , which ithink was never updated to ios 13 or possibly even ios 12 im not sure , but the tone on the vocoder is so smooth and warm sounding ! its too bad Jasuto never caught on as it was way ahead of its time in the music app world and can get incredibly complex and deep with modular design basically no manual though so you kinda have to just figure it out on your own.

If you are looking to vocode from a live sound (not MIDI) input like a guitar then pick up Matrix or DerVoco since they allow alternate carrier and modulator signals where the others do not. There is also some work being done in Drambo to create a modular vocoder with various input sources (as of July 2020).

Thanks for the reviews! Any suggestions how best to interface for live use? Perhaps an IK iRig or similar (for the mic in and line out)? I just pulled out my V_2 card for my Roland V-synth and it's crazy fun! It has a key follow that reads your pitch and follows it which allows you to sing into it without playing any keys! The PO-37 is really one of the best to pull out choppy robot voice at low low tones but as you know it's only for pre-recorded. The best I remember trying was the Korg MS2000. That vocoder picked up your voice so clear when you simply whispered threw it! I hope Korg will make an IOS MS2000 with vocoder :) ASLO maybe we can start a petition for a new version of Figure? one that sends midi out too? or at least export it?

Wow, that's awesome. It's crazy how there are many vocoder choices. My 5 are 1. Garageband's stock Vocoder (inbuilt) 2. Harmony Eight by Virsyn (AUv3) 3. Voloco (IAA - Free) 4. Audiotune by Audiokit (AUv3) 5. Voxsyn by Virsyn (AUv3) I di have voice synth but I never really vibed with it. But seriously, man, thanks for this. Given me an appreciation of so many apps. Edit: 27 mins in, and now I remember why I bought Voice Synth. It's incredibly powerful. I remember making a few presets but I also ran out of time to use the app as much as I'd like. Maybe I should get back to it. I also love your explanation on the principles of voice synthesis. Didn't know about that article so I'll check it out.

I like harmonisers too, but they’re not on the lists since they’re not pure vocoders. And personally I don’t like TunerFX at all. The overuse of “T-pain fx” ruined it for me completely. I’m so allergic to it that I won’t even use the auto-tuning settings in vocoders that have em. The only one I can handle is the VoxSyn vocoder/tuner one. It’s special and produces some really unique sounds.

This video helps us all in that decision process.. still not easy BUT e-a-s-i-e-r.. Really loved some of your examples.. great chords + voicings and the vocals fit perfectly.. very inspiring..
