@@angelomerz_2 How? It has Battery, Master of Puppets, Welcome Home (the outro of which is thrash), Leper Messiah (the outro of which is also the thrash), Disposable Heroes and Damage, Inc! Sure, The Thing That Should Not Be is a bit more on the ‘slow and heavy’ side, and Orion is a bit more on the proggy side, but the album is mostly comprised of thrash songs. It is heavily compromised of fast tempos, powerful riffs, fast solos, and anti war/establishment themes, which are all key elements of thrash metal.

I mean it is a great way to finish out the album...but I would say there are a number of solos and sections on just the Scenes from a Memory album that have even more interesting phrasings. The solo from Home, the 5/4 guitar part leading to the pseudo ragtime/swing piano part in The Dance of Eternity...the very soulful playing in The Spirit Carries On. Like I appreciate the outro solo to Octivarium still because it was a great release from the previous tension built up in parts 3 and 4 of the song, and does encapsulate the intended feel of the Razor's edge section of the song...but in terms of raw emotion, technicality, or phrasing there are definitely better Petrucci solos to choose from imo.

0:44 This is great. I don’t use distrokid, but I do use a distributor that takes 25% royalties in lieu of a fee. I figured it was worth it, though, because I plan on releasing a self-published poetry collection on Amazon and I fully expect my total income in 2023 from that one book to far exceed my lifetime earnings as a musician. Basically, 15% of nothing is cheaper than any discounted fees.

Dude, love all of those solos! Definitely would give my favorite JP solo to Under a Glass Moon and/or The Spirit Carries on, but I’ll be damned if that climax in Octavarium doesn’t pay off in spades. The build is incredible. Been fortunate to catch that one live once.

1st time ever seeing one of your videos... Liked, subbed and belled this, bc I love the genre(s) portrayed herein, and - in particular - your immaculate portrayal throughout. I included this comment in order to show my support for what you do, to complete the 4-step process of feeding the KZbin algorithm and to lead by example, by demonstrating to everyone who reads this comment how easy it is to accomplish these goals. 😎 Keeping the dream alive is what it's all about...!! Also, thank you for giving all of us an example of how you do just that...!!

My favorites are: Necrophagist - Fermented Offal Discharge, basically every solo from Revocation's album "The Outer Ones", Empty Words - Death, and Bonus Level: The ridiculous exotic solo in the outro of Even The Gods Must Die - Nile

Armory - “Beyond the Horizon” Caladan Brood - “Wild Autumn Wind” Anaal Nathrakh - “Of Horror, and the Black Shawls” Mors Principium Est - “At the Shores of Silver Sand” Amorphis - “From Earth I Rose” Code - “I Hold Your Light” Orden Ogan - “To the End” Sigh - “The Transfiguration Fear” Todtgelichter - “Oblivion” Whispered - “Tsukiakari” I get that that’s double the chosen amount for this video, but I see all of my ten chosen songs as being relevant to this sort of video/topic, and I did manage to leave out some I see as of equal or similar quality, which I was tempted to have included on one whim or another, but decided against going too overboard, so I’ve tried to compromise, lol. I will just say Grey Heaven Fall’s first album in particular has a lot of cool lead guitar work, but I couldn’t choose a particular song from it for its solo, so just leaving mentioning them and their 1st album aside here instead. (Also, worth noting for Sigh, and Amorphis’ songs in particular that it’s not just the guitar solo parts which make the solo sections so good imo. For Sigh the quality is largely in part due to the different instruments playing their solos, then finishing by subsequently segueing into the next instrument’s solo. And for Amorphis it’s the ‘jammy’ kind of interplay between the guitar solo and keyboard solo-work which makes it as awesome as I experience it to be.)

In no order: A) Andy Nelson's solo on Perfecting Slavery by Abysmal Dawn (only time I like a solo better than Christian Muenzner's solo on the same song) 2- The intro to Portals to Canaan by Deeds of Flesh 2. Muenzner's solo Bodiless Sleeper or what ever SOP song fits my mood 🏆: Jason Becker's entire life esp. the parts where Marty was standing next to him. Last but not least --> The piano players section on Giant Steps. It reminds me to stay humble in all things and keep playing til the song is over no matter what. That guy worked a lifetime to reach the heights of his profession only to show up to work and get run over the bus that is John Coltrane's improvisational abilities. Didn't matter, he tapped those keys til they cut the tape. That's life sometimes.

I got real wood when you said New Legend, love that song, but I practically lost it when you said Octovarium, It's such a great song, it was also one of my first DT songs, then I had to listen to the rest of what they had to offer. And how much feel does that solo have? Sooo much you could write an album comprised of power ballads. It's just so good.
