Magnifique vidéo Alex ! Something my Students find useful is building up a really good listening level by watching French tv shows, movies, KZbin videos with the French subtitles on. By doing this, they are reading the subtitles as the video plays. It allows them to not feel pressured into understanding 100% of the French audio. Putting heaps of pressure on yourself to understand everything right away is a CRAZY expectation - especially if you can't speak French yet! Simply build up slowly using French subtitles and 1 video by 1 video, you will increase your level. 30-60 mins per day is all it takes to understand well in 3-6 months. Hope some of you find this useful, Rory :)

Thanks for the suggestions! I would also suggest "Tour de France: unchained." There are other languages heard in the series, but there is nevertheless lots of French to be heard. And the French is natural and idiomatic, and it is quite raw at times for good vocabulary exposure. I have learned lots watching it.

Good choices. I have watched two of them and will try the others. I would add "Au Service de la France" -- A Very Secret Service in English - a spoof of the bureaucratic spying world of 1960's French espionage agents. I recommend 2 Canadian shows: 19-2, a riveting police drama set in Montréal and C'est Comme Ça, que Je t'aime, a comedic take on the idea of two suburban couples 'breaking bad' in Québec's capital region in the groovy early 70's. I recommend using the French subtitles, especially if you're unfamiliar with Québécois dialect and pronunciation.

Spiral is great if you can find. It’s like Law & Order, but it was a fascinating glimpse into the French Criminal and Judicial system.

I like the fact that I can understand most of what the lawyers say, because their speech is slower and more formal and more like what I learned at school. However when it comes to the fast slangy talk of the police and the criminals, I'm back to relying on the subtitles.

Excellent list. Apple TV’s La Maison is very entertaining as well.

Le Bureau des Légendes is a spy thriller I highly recommend (The Bureau in English). One of the best series in any language that I’ve seen. I believe they went to 5 seasons.

"Au Secour, Bèatrice" is a French Canadian show on Netflix. The Quebecois accent is not too heavy. Bèatrice is an ER doctor and the plot takes place in the emergency ward in a busy Montreal hospital. The dialogue is not as fast as the shows from France. Just watched a sample of "Dix Pour Cent" and the dialogue is really fast, as you said. Four seasons. Recommended. I LOVED L'Agence!

You need to do a video about Le Bureau des Legendes!! This is really one of the best series that I have ever seen, not just the best French series.

Love your suggestions. I have yet to see l’Agence and Drôle but I intend to. Sambre has been on BBc4 recently and I series linked it. The subject matter is dark but it’s a great series if you have not seen it. I’m currently watching Tour de France unchained on Netflix it’s really good. Novembre 13 is also a Netflix show but again sad subject matter.

TV5 monde here in England is a terrific resource. I watch the film, in two parts, Le Roi, l’ecureuil et le couleuvre, about the chateau Vaux le Vicomte south east of Paris.

I am relativenew to learning French. Should I use French or English subtitles?
@LannasMissingLink2 ай бұрын
Try use French subtitles. You won't understand a lot but it'll help more sections of your brain stay in your target language. Context clues of the scenes also help you keep up

Have watched all of these and agree with your No.1. Didn't care for L'Agence, found the format to be very American so only watched one episode.
