@@lilshinobu The first two are more of an acquired taste more than anything. Old school dungeon crawling and high encounter rates aren't exactly fun for most people, though in my eyes they are still carried by the demon collecting and fusion aspect, which sets it apart from most classic first person RPGs at the time. SMT 3 is amazing though it can be tedious if you don't know what you're doing. SMT 4 would be tedious if it wasn't the most accessible game in the series, saving and fusing demons anywhere made the game much more easy to approach without compromising too much on difficulty, and in many ways it's a blending of all the mainline SMTs before it, often calling back to SMT 1. I haven't played SMT 5, I just put on here for the joke lol

smt v is my first smt game so i don't know how the others compare. But I heard 4 was a masterpiece, strange journey was great, and 3 is considered the hardest and peak megaten.

5 for me, Loved it. Wish it had more location variety for the first half of the game but I loved it. Exploration was so damn fun, combat was snappy and awesome. Love the camera angle in combat the way its tilted. Looks great. Love the gameplay focus and the music gets better and better as it goes.

I liked SMTV a lot... but realistically, it isn't one of the greatest games. Here are my complaints: 1. No weapons / armor / gun upgrades. 2. The overworld map usually serves an important purpose in SMT games. In SMTV, it was completely useless and I don't even know why they bothered with it. 3. Not enough character dialogue (and I know... SMT games are usually sparse on dialogue but this was to the extreme). 4. The game felt rushed... everything felt small and empty, like the Diet Building... the Council of Bethel (which was supposed to be massive), and even the endings. SMT: Strange Journey was so much better, IMO, as was the original SMTIV, and the Devil Survivor games...

​@@vorpal22The lack of weapons/armor was DEFINITELY weird coming from Persona and hearing about Smt because I'm pretty sure every other game has them, persona included. The Human characters are almost none existent and it feels like all the quality is carried by the demons associated with them and that goes for even the best human characters. Which kinda defeats the purpose of them being here but the overworld so basically just Da'at was AMAZING and definitely a thing I will miss in all other smt games I plan on playing. They will probably never be THAT fun again but it's not like they can't be better in other areas. The overall story wasn't bad it's just so back heavy and the majority of the game REALLY feels like a much smaller and simple story than it actually is which just makes the ending jump while very exciting seem a bit out of place despite it being the norm for smt. Like why wasn't all of this being hinted at instead of being dropped on our heads when we hit Taito? Like it wasn't too off putting but definitely noticeable.

@@timdoe8895 Da'at was really well done... but damn, was it hard! Sometimes you wanted to go to a point on the map that was practically next to you, but to get there, you had to go all the way to the other side of the map and take some crazy route. That didn't bother me at all: it was fun, and it made you really learn the levels... LOL I remember that it took me about two weeks to complete the third region of Da'at and I was basically telling my friends that that was where I lived now and the only thing I was going to do with my life. 😅 The demons were great, and the music was epic. Did you ever get the chance to play any other SMT games? I highly recommend the spjinoffs, SMT: Devil Survivor. Really good games if you like strategy, and a ton of fun.

Honestly got to know SMT thanks to Persona 3-5 (admittedly never played 1 and 2) and started with Nocturne so it has a special place in my heart lol Currently playing SMTV tho! What a banger! But I absolutely love Digital Devil Saga too, it's up there with Nocturne and just an amazing experience!

I thought I was late to the show when I got my friends into SMT 3: Nocturne!!! Still haven't finished so many SMT games like the shin Megami TENSEI Digital Devil Saga 1 and 2! Now those, along w the SNES remake of the very first game Megami TENSEI 1 and 2 on SNES, along w Shin Megami Tensei If?, the precursor to the Persona games, the two strategy SMT games on SNES, and everything they released on the damn 3DS! PlayStation, Xbox and PC gamers want legal remakes of the whole series! And while you are at it, remake Infinite Space, the bizarre space RPG w anime trappings that SCREAMS OUT for a proper franchise!!!

It's weird how the series went the Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare route. Like first there was Megami Tensei, then Megami Tensei 2, and then Shin Megami Tensei which was basically Megami Tensei 3. Then after that they pull a Modern Warfare 2 with Shin Megami Tensei 2, and the rabbit hole turned more into an ant colony with all the various spin-offs, sequels, sequels to those spin-offs, and spin-offs to those spin-offs, and oh look I've gone cross-eyed.

It was all about breaking away from Megami Tensei brand, since it didn't belong to them. Also, Shin Megami Tensei was never supposed to be Megami Tensei 3, at first it was actually conceived as reimagining of Megami Tensei 1, but became it's own thing.

Oo my top 5 is 5. Smt digital devil saga 2-i loved the music and it vastly improved on how the demon transformations functioned not to mention it was a satisfying conclusion to the dds story 4. Smt 2- alephs story was fascinating to me as someone made to be a messiah living in a world that resulted from smt 1s aftermath it was unique not to mention one of the my favorite steven moments is in teb game 3. Smt soul hackers-the tale of the spookies trying to overcome a force of nature all the while everyone in the game has thier own struggles and secrets and the match against the raidous and devil summoner protag as a hidden boss along with nemissas character development it was a wonderful experience 2. Smt 3-the definitive smt experience not to mention rather than a morality system the concept of reasons was extremely refreshing i love how each ending also has clearly defined reprocussions on the mythology 1. Smt strange journey-this was my first smt game and i absolutely cherish it and its redux version as well i feel for all the characters and their struggles the game was dark and enthralling too with its atmosphere i truly consider it peak smt

I tried so hard to like SMT nocturne but it is soooooo grindy and samey I just had to put it down. SMT V is really good though imo. It feels fair so that even when you lose, it’s because you weren’t playing optimally and you can just come back with the right team setup unlike nocturne which throws a lot of weird curveballs at you and makes you grind heavily.

Understandable not every game is for everyone, but I actually disaagree here I do think nocturne actually does a better job at teaching you a lesson when u mess up. I thibk smtv is much more lenient, I never found nocturne grindy except maybe by the end of the game.

I guessed SMT 3 as first place from your channel name. Ironically it's one of the games I like the least, which is the main reason I waited so long to buy 5 when I saw it was more similar in athmosphere to 3 than the rest of the series. 5 quickly became my favorite though. Managed to use the same kind of world as 3 but not boring af. 4 is great, and just mentioning DeSu makes me happy. Strange Journey is good (I love you, Jimenez), but I played Redux. Which version did you have in mind?

SMT Nocturne is the clear winner. Magatama just add a ton of replayability. And the fact is on several consoles including PC.

No persona game is a smt game they only had the smt title on America bc at the time smt 3 was the most popular game so they were trying sell the games under that title to get new fans obviously this is old history and persona is way more popular tha Smt

V is a good place to start. My personal favorite is IV. Nocturne is a classic. You should definitely try out Digital Devil Saga 1/2. Devil Survivor 1 is one of the best too. You really can’t go wrong with these games. Hope you have fun with them. The soundtracks alone are stellar

My favorite shen magoomi tensay games are: Persona 5 Persona 5 Royal Persona 5 Rumble Persona 5 Dancing All Night And Persona Q2 but mostly just for the P5 segments Honorable mention to Tokyo Mirage Sessions In all seriousness: 5. SMT 4 Apocalypse (mostly for the gameplay, the characters can go fuck themselves) 4. SMT 1 3. SMT 4 2. Digital Devil Saga duology 1. Nocturne I kinda fell off the series waiting for SMT 5 to come out so I've yet to play it. I'm having a resurgence at the moment so I'll probably pick it up at some point.
