Hey John! Just wanted to say I'm glad to see you talking about books about women/written by women! I wrote a comment on a video of yours last year saying I thought it was important for someone with your influence to diversify your reading, as I had only realised a year before that I almost solely reading books written by men and decided to change that and shared how transformative it was to change my reading habits a bit. Keep it up, great recommendations! 🎉

I was an average high school student, so I went into the military, and eventually 8 years later found myself double majoring in Physics and ComSci in school on the GI Bill. However, after 900 days in Afghanistan within those 8 years, I racked up some potent mental health issues. Needless to say, Acid Test was one of the most important books for my healing and progression back into civilian life and graduating college with my degrees. It opened my eyes in other options. I highly recommend it!

So thrilled to see Project Hail Mary on this list! Just finished it and it was amazing!!! I much prefer it over The Martian. I listened to it on Audible and I honestly couldn’t recommend it enough. I don’t think I would’ve enjoyed it as much if I had read a physical copy instead. Apparently Ryan Gosling is going to star in the film adaptation so I can’t wait to see that

Great recommendations that I’m looking forward to read some of. I think it’s important though to highlight just because a writer won a prestigious award that shouldn’t put them on a pedestal. Additionally it’s important to research who you are reading for as some writers ideologies leak to their books. Just because a book is popular you shouldn’t rush to pick it. Google the writer and check what they stand for and I’d apply that to the noise book as well.

The End of Everything sounds excellent, will definitely try to read that. When I dwell on the inevitable end of the cosmos, I wonder about the purpose of smaller things, like art. It's a tough reality to grapple with

re: art, is transient beauty not enough--does it need to be eternal or even last longer than a moment?
@writeitdown20133 жыл бұрын
@@thejohnfish I think you're probably right. Art, beauty doesn't need to be eternal. Often the strongest instances of it are but brief moments in time, and perhaps that's exactly how it should be. My wish for it to be eternal is usually just a feeling that dissipates as soon as I dwell on it long enough. But the feeling still arises from time to time, and I imagine it always will.

I just finished Earnest gaines A lesson before dying and if you haven't read it you have to it's a very powerful book. Its about this kid named Jeffreson who gets in a car with 2 people named bear and bo and robbed a store but it wasn't Jeffersons fault but he did take the money from the cash register. And also this takes place in the 1940s. And then there was this young man a college graduate named grant who taught reading writing and arithmetic and he had to go to the jailhouse to teach Jefferson before he dies by being executed with a electric chair.( sorry I spoiled some of the story I just really think you would like this book) :)
