tip for if anyone has big rats: products that are marketed towards guinea pigs, chinchillas, and ferrets are often quite large and are actually a pretty good size for a group of male rats. i have hides marketed towards guinea pigs or chinchillas primarily and they are a great size for my big male rats. just make sure they are rat safe.

I usually put a bit of fleece in the bottom of my space pod so my girls don't want to pee in it as much, and if they do, it's absorbed. At first they would kinda toss it around and stuff but I found that a couple mini binder clips on the edges of the openings work great to keep the fleece in place.

I’ve been looking for some new toys for my rats because their toys are getting destroyed so this was really helpful and perfect timing! Also a tip for the wheel foragers you have a plastic cage with the smaller doors that open downwards , I’ve lost the screws for mine but I’ve zip tied mine to the door and since the door opens downward it’s easier to refill it. I probably made that way more complicated than it should have been but I hope it helps someone lol. Also if your cage has small bar spacing the dog bowls don’t fit so check that before buying one. Also they sell those storage containers at tiger too :)

I've had rats as pets for years. But after my Jigsaw passed away, I felt I just wasn't ready to own rats in the near future. So about a decade passed by and my son surprised me with a pet rat that his Nana bought him. I had no enclosure, no food, no bedding or toys and I had to scramble to get everything together. Very expensive. But I love little Debbie. She's a sweetheart. I'm getting her a companion tomorrow. Another female to keep her company while I tend to my elderly grandparents next door. She's a female and very active, so it's hard to clean Granny's house, with Debbie on me. Debbie likes to snuggle with my pitbull, Mileena. But Mileena can't keep a watchful eye on her, and Debbie can't play outside alone. She comes when I call, I just wish the dog would do that. Lol.

@2_Gay_Rats_Kissing3 жыл бұрын
Also I recommend limiting the levels in your girls cage, or making a temporary bin cage with one level. The reason is you want your momma to beat on the ground so the babies don’t fall out of a higher spot and hurt themselves. Also keep an eye on milk bands to ensure the pups are feeding. There are some great breeding groups on Facebook to join for more info from actual breeders :)

To deal with the pee gathering in the bottom of the sputnik, I wonder if it would work to drill one or two holes?

Hey So I could really use your guy’s help. So my male rat of three which is also the Alpha of the cage has unfortunately come down with a respiratory infection, and is being treated by 2 types of meds by the vet. After going through all the reasons he might have caught it, and realizing that none of them applied; he said that the alpha rat is under a lot of stress and is more prone to a respiratory infection breaking out. He told me to separate him from the other two rats for two weeks while he is on the two week course of meds. Should I have to reintroduce them after the two weeks or should I even keep them separated for the whole two weeks at all; because of the single rat becoming too lonely?

Don’t separate them, being alone brings its own stress which can only further worsen his symptoms 😬

@@Emiology Alright thank you, one last question, what if one of the other two rats inside the cage also has a respiratory infection. Should I still put the alpha/ biggest rat who has a respiratory infection back in the same cage with the two other rats, one of which also has a respiratory infection. Thank you.

thank you for mentioning that malt paste isn’t good for ferrets! it’s so unhealthy for them and can cause cancer so i’m really glad you mentioned that

My rats go NUTS for apple banana gogosqueez. It's all-natural and the smell stays on your finger so they stay motivated even with just a little. I highly recommend it
