My kids and I are enjoying BJU DL history/heritage studies this year. In years past, I have enjoyed doing history together as a family using The Mystery of History and My Father's World. My oldest daughter (now in college) loved using Tapestry of Grace for history. Thanks for sharing your top picks!

I previously used and love Story of the World until I found The Good and the Beautiful. We LOVE our switch and the kids are retaining so much more!!! Highly recommend looking into!

Thank you so much for this, I like that it’s broken down by subject (vs grade). I just started looking into history & science for our next school year! ~Stephanie

We are switch from Story of the World (we used it 2 years) to Mystery of History as it was not pro Christian (not anti) but spent tons of time on idols and mythology that my kids really could have done without. So we wanted something similar, but more appropriate for us. My daughter did love the reader though.

Erica Arndt, oh yes! I have seen/watched great reviews. But, YOUR review would be so valuable because you are so experienced! ❤️

We have been using since January and we LOVE The Good and the beautiful, we were coming from story of the world. And I love that we go through Ancient Times to modern days instead of being stuck in a period ALL year long. Very well done curriculum, so happy we switched

Thank you so much Erica! I appreciated everything you had to say. Just curious if you've ever checked out The Mystery of History by Linda Hobar? When choosing for next year I compared her program side by side with The Story of the World. In the end, I have choosen The Mystery of History. Both programs are similar (classical style) but MOH is Bible based world history and I found Story of the World to be very secular. We are beginning with Volume 1, Creation to the Resurrection. I checked out the audio book from the library and my children have listened to several CDs and loved it. Blessings!

Yes, you are correct! They are very similar and MOH is Bible based and SOTW is secular. We reviewed MOH a while back and it just didn't work as well for me, but I have friends who have used it and loved it!

I’d love it if you did an Abeka review!
@dianeg.17716 жыл бұрын
Great review! Do you use Abeka history at the same time as the Story of the World? I love both but which do you prefer when? Thanks!
@erica_arndt6 жыл бұрын
No! Abeka is stand alone, and there is a lot of work in it. I wouldn't recommend doing anything else with it. For younger grades I did add in some Evan Moor History Pockets to make it more fun, but the older grades are quite filled with quizzes, tests, reading, etc. So anything additional would be overwhelming I think.

I understand your Roadtrip USA and Expedition Earth curricula are suitable across multiple age ranges (I own both but haven't utilized them yet!) You mentioned your Roadtrip curriculum aligns with what is typically taught in most states in Grade 4. Do you happen to know in what grade the general content of your Expedition curriculum would be taught?
@erica_arndt5 жыл бұрын
Hi! Expedition Earth can be used for any elementary grades K-5 :)

Is it necessary to teach the lessons with Abeka or can a student learn the material by reading the text?
@erica_arndt Жыл бұрын
Hi, do you mean using the teacher's manual? I think for younger grades you can get away with out the TM, and just read the text and do the lessons. We do them together that way. But the TM has all of the lessons spread out and tells you what to do each day, so it is helpful if you want to follow their schedule.

we have used BJU DL Heritage Studies all the way through - I did use Abeka in 3rd grade but that was 8 or so years ago. BJU has worked well but it is allot of work. It weighs my kiddos down. I have two going into 6 now, Is Abeka lighter weight in the amount you have to do?
@erica_arndt2 жыл бұрын
I think BJU and Abeka are similar in workload. but it easy to get rid of the busy work so we don't always do everything the suggest.
@Fernandomilkys2 жыл бұрын
With BJU some of the questions were long for them. They are not writers, they don’t enjoy it. So lots of questions with written answers not their favorite thing. But allot of BJU worked really well. Thank you !

Good Morning Erica, I have been using Mystery of History for my 5th grader. I want to do a study on the United States in his 6th grade. I was thinking about Notgrass America The Beautiful. I am now considering the Road Trip. Do you think that would be good for 6th grade?
@tracylynn98306 жыл бұрын
We are using Notgrass America the Beautiful this year with my 7th grade daughter and we love it. It could easily be used with a 6th grader.
