Notorious is my favorite film of all-time. I have watched it so many times and it includes so many of Hitch's great tropes like the staircases in the final scene. And then you have Cary Gran and Ingrid Bergman...so hot together.

nit a bad list. I would have included Rebecca in the top ten myself. I’m glad to finally meet the other person who saw the perfect murder! I agree it is probably the best remake ever done. It takes the simple premise of the original and adds to it. Such a fun watch

nice list. but with the exception of "rope" you're forgetting everything before 1950. you have "rebecca," his only oscar for best picture, "suspicion," lifeboat," "spellbound" and the wondeful 1938 british classic "the lady vanishes." in my book you can leave out "vertigo" and include any of these.

I never knew Orson Welles thought The 39 Steps was a masterpiece, I read an article that said he watched The Lady Vanishes 11 times. Great list, a few you didn't mention that I also love are Notorious, Frenzy, Suspicion, To Catch A Thief, Sabotage, Family Plot, Young and Innocent, The Lodger, Stage Fright
@saylacofilms
@saylacofilms Жыл бұрын
I totally spaced on NOTORIOUS and SUSPICION, I like both of those films very much! I missed out on SABOTAGE because I got it confused with the SABOTEUR and thought I'd already seen it! Frenzy, to catch a thief and family plot as well as others were omitted to reduce running time as the list was already running long. Thanks, I need to add young and innocent, the lodger and stage fright to the list. That's the thing about somebody who's made at least 50 films, there's always more to watch! Thanks so much for watching and commenting!

@@saylacofilms Glad you like those two! I was thinking you might have left off Suspicion because of the ending. It took me 3 watches to figure it out the ending of it isnt all that cheery, it's actually ambiguous and dark. Sabotage is great, Tarantino actually added a clip of it and a bit of the plot to it too on Inglorious Basterds. I think you'll like all 3, especially Young and Innocent, if you're are into his innocent man on the run films. Like his other ones (though the other ones are greater) its an adventures filled with suspense, humor, and a fun couple who fall in love. Yes so many films, I just finished watching (1930) Murder, which now makes 47 films of his I've seen lol

@@saylacofilms I think Vertigo is but I actually like the potential ambiguous/dark ending from Suspicion, if thats what Hitchcock intended for with the last shot of the film. It's the cheery ending of it I despise

You must have thought there had to be some reason Dial M For Murder had a 3D option. It was well known for having been released in 3D originally. I can't see how they can make it look 3D on your home screen however. Have you at least checked it out yet? If so, how's it look?
@saylacofilms
@saylacofilms Жыл бұрын
I just tried it and I'm shocked to report that it's the best 3D Blu-ray I have - although I don't have many. Unlike the other 3D movies I have, the 3D does not seem like an afterthought - everything seems perfectly backlit to make a jump off the screen. The opening titles are pure joy. It's not gimmicky 3D, it's just... Really good 3D.

As usual, Americans always skip the British films. For me, a Brit, The Lodger, The 39 Steps and The Lady Vanishes are top-ranking Hitch films, as good as anything he made later. His US films get praised to the heavens, so I’m not going to repeat all that stuff, except to say North by Northwest has to be the best non-Bond Bond film, particularly with that ending!

@@TequilaToothpick I'm more familiar with this story, still haven't seen the movies: "William Castle was known for his movie gimmicks, and The Tingler featured one of his best: "Percepto!". Previously, he had offered a $1,000 life insurance policy against "Death by Fright" for Macabre (1958) and sent a skeleton flying above the audiences' heads in the auditorium in House on Haunted Hill (1959). The gimmicks for The Tingler increased the film's cost from $400,000 to $1 million. "Percepto!" was a gimmick where Castle attached electrical "buzzers" to the underside of some seats in theaters where The Tingler was screened to provide "tingling" sensations during certain scenes."
