‘86 is the year when it all happened for me & I discovered the music I felt like I’d been waiting my whole life for! I’d already got into rock & metal around ‘84, but when I bought ‘Master Of Puppets’, it changed everything! Seen METALLICA on their Master of Puppets tour when Cliff was alive. They opened up for OZZY for his Ultimate Sin tour. Still one the absolute greatest concerts I've ever seen to this day. They played at the UNO Lake Front Arena in New Orleans Louisiana In the U.S.A. M.O.P. , R.l.B. and Peace Sells are my 3-most favorites from 86' and also of All times. In my opinion definitely one of the most incredible years for all Metal. I really like these types of videos. Thanks Darcy. Keep them coming brother.\m/

Like you, 1986 was definitely a key time in my metal journey. It was the year I first started going to concerts (KISS on the Asylum tour was my very first show) where it quickly became a regular thing to do. I still remember some of the posters that decorated my bedroom walls that year. Had the large album cover posters of Master of Puppets, Somewhere In Time, and The Ultimate Sin, to name just a few. I was buying so much underground music as well. That, and all the great thrash metal we were being exposed to every week on Headbanger's ball. My music education was all word of mouth, MTV, and rock magazines. That was our internet. 1986 was firing on all cylinders. For me, it was the year of phenomenal music, legendary keg parties, and killer concerts! I left NO stone unturned. Cool video Darcy!

I agree. I miss the days of scouting out record shops that dealt with rare imports. It's too easy now, downloading off the Internet. I would rather own a physical copy anyday. About your posters, I still have a large fabric flag of "Somewhere in Time" on my wall. One of my favourite Maiden album covers along with "Killers", still my all time favourite Iron Maiden album.

So true. Nothing compares to owning a physical copy. The excitement of coming across a rare gem while flipping through records is unmatchable. There is no adventure involved in downloading. That's very cool you still proudly display your "Somewhere in Time" fabric flag. It's my favorite cover and such an incredible album.

1986, What a great year! I remember seeing our paperboy wearing a “peace sells” t-shirt in 86. It was the first time I heard of Megadeth. That was my gateway into thrash. Great video! Your channel has really inspired me to go back and discover some bands that I missed the boat on. 🤘🏻🤘🏻🍻

I am sure you were quite the badass in frigid weather in a t-shirt at that concert, definitely metal! Haha I remember catching a lot of these on Headbanger's Ball back then. Onslaught's The Force is excellent. I saw the band playing it live entirely a few years ago, and got to meet them. Too bad Sy is no longer behind the mic. Tankard's Zombie Attack is another forgotten gem that many people are unfortunately still not aware of. Great job as always Darcy 🤘.

All killer no filler here. I was still pop, hard rock and glam back then. Thrash happened for me a couple of years later. I’m getting my life jacket and jumping on that early Onslaught boat brother 😝 just gotta find them. Better late than never right!! Possessed will be a while yet for another album as Jeff Becerra just had a long stint in hospital with more back surgeries. Hopefully he can recover soon and we get another record 🤘

I was in the Marine Corps in1986 in California. Reign In Blood is my favorite from that year. I did miss the Slayer concert that year. Metal Church was opening band. June 1986. I saw Ozzy with Metallica (Cliff was still alive) The same night in Long Beach was Motörhead and Dark Angel, I chose Ozzy. Saw Judas Priest/ Raven May 1986. Iron Maiden- Somewhere in Time, would not arrive in California until early 1987, and I was deployed to the Far East. Vinnie Vincent Invasion was opening band. Missed Alice Cooper/ Megadeth. Missed AC/DC / Queensryche. Missed Kiss/ WASP.

1986 was magic for The New Wave of American Heavy Meyal much like 1980 was for the NWOBHM. My favourite is tough to figure out, as Master of Puppets, Peace Sells and Reign in Blood were all masterpieces. Although not thrash, Maiden's "Somewhere in Time" was also great! 1986 was also the year I grew a mullet, so some things from that year are best left forgotten. 🤣

Nothing to add, nothing to disguss here! ´86 was the perfect year for Thrash Metal. I started listening to Metal in 1986 so I was a little too young to go to concerts, I was 11 back then. Favourite? Probably Dark Angel. "Time Does Not Heal", their 4th album is killer. Have you heard the newer albums by Hexx? Fantastic stuff, a little bit like early Metal Church. Let´s just call it Power - Thrash, hehe... it´s got the riffs, it´s got the speed but with a great sense of melody. Thank you for sharing your thoughts!

I need to pickup Time Does Not Heal & Leave Scars soon , I don’t hear their first album mentioned much so I’m not sure I need that one ! Power Thrash haha yes I like it ! RRROOOAAAAARRRRRR!!! Te most insane album in the entire history of Metal!! I would also include "War and Pain" as pretty insane but it was so poorly recorded that listening to it now seems like a huge challenge.

Now I'm not the most experienced with thrash, I haven't listened to Destruction, Annihilator, Metal Church, Tankard, Mortal Sin and a lot of other bands. But from what I have listened to, this is my list (in no order) Whiplash-Power and Pain Metallica-Master of Puppets Nuclear Assault-Game Over I have listened to Megadeth, Slayer, Kreator, Dark Angel, Sepultura, Exumer, Possessed and more, but I feel like they weren't strong enough to be my favorites.

I was about 3 in 86 so probably listening to the Muppets instead if Master of Puppets....but my older cousins had all the Metallica albums so I knew who they were from an early age. Hi Darcy! What more can you say about 1986 except: if you experienced it..you KNOW :) Favorite Dark Angel: Time Does Not Heal. That album shows that you don’t need to play fast to sound brutal! I always prefered Ron Rinehart as a singer..

I agree with your opinion on Razor, my favorite from them is Violent Restitution (my 2nd favorite album overall). When Bob Reid came to Razor, things went downhill (although I still like them).

Flotsam and Jetsam's Doomsday for the Deceiver is heads and shoulders the best thrash album of 1986. It is in my top 10 or 20 metal albums of all time.

I'm going to check out the Onslaught album. Never listened to it. Awesome cover. Speaking of Flotsam's "Doomsday for the Deceiver", I highly recommend their instrumental track "Flotzilla." It's genuinely awesome. Killer riffs from head to toe. And oddly, for the time, it has no solos. But it works perfectly that way. As for Dark Angel's "Darkness Descends", that's where Metallica "stole" the idea for the second part of "One", which came out 2 years later. Not out nothing ahah. Exumer also rules. I will finish with an heretic opinion: I think Megadeth's Peace Sells... guitar SOLOS could and should have been a lot better. I understand that most people will just be happy with a super-fast improvised scale- based solo between the riffs and the voice, - specially in 1986, but if you enjoy creativity and composition, "Peace Sells" is definitely overrated regarding lead guitars.

Fantastic video! But hey, it can't be a bad video if you're gonna talk about thrash from 1986. Can't say much, either you said it all or the records speak for themselves. I do have one recommendation for you from '86, the debut from Holy Moses from Germany, Queen of Siam. Female fronted thrash. A combination of Maiden, Motorhead, Running Wild and Slayer.
