I remember watching the needle running thru the intro of Battery and getting a little worried it wasn’t gonna be heavy enough. It’s weird to see Reign in Blood in this list for me, cause that came out so much later than Rooaarr and Puppets. I consider it the next wave of albums. It probably was only a nine months later but back then that’s a whole school year apart. Reign in blood goes with Among the living and the newer thrash batch. Surprised not to see Obsessed By Cruelty. Reign In Blood really was that line in the sand, before that(and it took a couple of years) AC/DC, Van Halen, Alice... all passed as Metal. After Slayer you had to at least aspire to be that fast, heavy and evil. Also, Discogs has blocked the sale of that Outbreak record.
@MetalTheologian4 жыл бұрын
Honestly, the "description" of that band on discogs pisses me off. Outbreak is not a "neo-nazi" band. If the imagery offends you, fine, that's why they did it, after all (same as the Sex Pistols, who, I assume, are not blocked), but this is not Aryan Terrorism we're talking about here. Regarding Sodom, In the Sign of Evil, Persecution Mania, or Agent Orange might well have made it, but I just don't love Obsessed by Cruelty as much (except the cover, which nothing on Earth can beat).
@Polaroid_City_MikeD3134 жыл бұрын
I see it like this (and I'm mixed race and pretty far left) it's no different than Vikings, Satanism or whatever archaic culture Manowar are singing about. It's shock your parents and teachers, not recruitment. Seriously, who's going to buy a 35 year old obscure metal record and become a Nazi. Hell, I've been listening to Mercyiful Fate and Venom for 30+ years and the thought of becoming a Satanist has never occurred to me, it's fiction.

@@Polaroid_City_MikeD313 You're totally right on all counts (and I'm pretty far left too... I have enough Republican friends that I try to keep away from it in my videos, but I suspect you've picked up on it anyway... I'm pretty sure I wore my DSA t-shirt at least once, haha). So regarding discogs, maybe I'm being hypersensitive, because I'm such a fan of Outbreak, but in my book, there's a big difference between a swastika on your demo cover and being a "neo-nazi" band.... and if you look at the actual songs by Outbreak, yeah, they're playing with the imagery, but they're not promoting racism, glorifying or denying the Holocaust, or anything like that... they're writing songs with titles like "Dress Like SS" (which I think is hilarious).

10. Powerlord - The Awakening 9. Exumer - Possessed by Fire 8. Onslaught - The Force 7. Nuclear Assault - Game Over 6. Metallica - Master of Puppets 5. Cirith Ungol - One Foot in Hell 4. Sepultura - Morbid Visions 3. Manilla Road - The Deluge 2. Slayer - Reign in Blood 1. Megadeth - Peace Sells... But Who's Buying? I kind of feel like my top five should all be tied for first place.

@@MetalTheologian True. Lists are fun, but my favorites are always in flux. Next week it could be in a different order with a new band or two. Nuclear definitely has a sense of humor but I don't think it overwhelms the album. I love the frantic feel of the album, along with Connelly's absurd drunken vocals, it really hits the spot when I'm in the mood for something chaotic.

Great vid🤘for me Slayer was able to match RIB with Seasons as another perfect album, not the same aggression or intensity granted but both in their own way are 10s imo.

Man, I still haven't gotten my head completely around Seasons, but a lot of people I've known who have good taste have sworn by that record. I'm actually fine with that: Someday I'll put it on and it'll completely blow my mind, and it'll be like discovering Slayer all over again! How many times in your life do you get to do that, right?

Yeah man, that Outbreak screamer is nuts, hahaha! Some of the other songs are even crazier, hahaha. It's so funny to think a store might refuse to carry a record like that now, isn't it? Although, I don't think anything can beat the classic comment about Damaged being an "anti-parent record"!

Dude, those fuckin' Image guys look like Kansas or something, don't they? And they would anyway, even if they weren't drawn like that, hahaha! And on top of it, they were American... there were a few mustaches in metal then, but only among European bands. So what the fuck?? hahaha

Cannot argue with most of those. I'd trade out Kreator for Destruction in my Top 10, but regardless, I dig 'em all. I like Reign in Blood but I have always thought it was one the most overrated metal records of all time. Their first two records were better than Reign, and the follow-up kicks it's ass as well. Blasphemy? Yes, I know, but it's my opinion. I also think Queensryche Operation: Mindcrime is an overrated album as well that doesn't hold a candle to the first three albums.
@MetalTheologian4 жыл бұрын
Ha! Dude, I actually thought about you when I was hyping Reign in Blood for just that reason! I definitely love the earlier stuff too, but I've gotta stand by everything I said about Reign here. And you know you can blaspheme around me all you want... hell, similar "blasphemy" has put me on to all sorts of great bands in the past, hahaha! (Also, I seem to have tweaked a couple of people for having left out Obsessed by Cruelty, not to mention Pleasure to Kill, and I'm a bit surprised no one's come after me yet for not even _mentioning_ Master of Puppets.... so I think I'm doing a bit of blaspheming on my own, hahaha!)

Cool top 10. A great year for thrash and yet you left out the most ballyhooed thrash album of all time. So, it seems that you think, as do I, that Master of Puppets is very overrated.
@MetalTheologian3 жыл бұрын
Awesome, thanks for checking out the video! I kinda have mixed feelings about Master of Puppets, as is probably obvious: On the one hand, I played the shit out of that just like everyone else; on the other hand, I do think it's kinda flawed (and it's definitely too long), but then again, if I *didn't* know it so well, would I be as hard on it? Maybe not. Regardless though, you can watch anyone else's top 10 of 1986 video and listen to them rant about Puppets. I prefer to dig a little deeper!
@adhominemsis-t.australisensis3 жыл бұрын
@@MetalTheologian hahaha...no I get it. At least you gave Megadeth their due! Great album. Agree on RIB as well. As for Puppets, has probably two all time great Metallica classics on there but on the other hand a lot of fillers that haven't aged as well and drags a bit as a result.
