This video was very overwhelming for me given how I have barely scratched the surface when it comes to visual novels, the only visual novels i have played are Little Busters, Nanairo Reincarnation, and Fate Stay/Night. I have started Umineko but theres just so much i need to experience. Had the same experience when i first started watching anime six years ago

This is a very solid video, really enjoyed it : you quickly and efficiently presented what made each title appealing and your voice is very dynamic. However, I wish the text you put on screen stayed longer, it's not enjoyable to break the flow of the video to read what you wrote.

Gnosia is another that came out this year and it really lived up to it's impeccable reviews in Japan. As a mystery game addict it's one of the best mystery plots I've experienced. Fun romance scenes, a unique roster, and an elaborate plot where you could tell the writer knew what they wanted for it's ending. It's also really cheap on the Switch. I still need to play Root; Film so can't comment on it just yet. That said, these are some awesome recommendations. Definitely gonna start with Fatal Twelve and 9-Nine sooon.

But the story evolves as you play through, you discover many secrets with the cast, and you can choose your character's strengths like charm, or stealth to avoid being murdered at night. Also Setsu is waifu yes.

I wish Nintendo Switch had a visual novel that is basically.... I GOT A CHEAT SKILL IN A MINECRAFT WORLD AND BECAME UNRIVALLED IN THE REAL WORLD TOO. The main character able to freely move between the normal world and supernatural fantasy blocks world with all of his or her powers. One such power being the ability to transform between human-form and magical blocks-person-form. Or maybe Blocks Golem? They become like Knack from the PS4 games but made of special blocks instead of relics.

Love the shout out to Meteor World Actor, wouldn't have found out about it without a tweet from Shiravune and it definitely is one of my favorites from this year. One thing I love about the cast too is the well written male side characters too like Sosuke and Ikuta, which is something that most visual novels fail at. Hope you're as excited for the release of Badge and Dagger as much as I am - spedrun through the demo as soon as I saw it announced.

It's... Not that good tbf. And overrated for some reason. I guess people like it because they like not too serious vn stories? But seriously the plot is stupid, comedy mostly tiring instead of funny and the MC is somewhat acting all philosophical but his understanding is somewhat shallow if compared to other philosophical MC. The only good in this vn are common route because atmospherical friendship relationship between them and wanko route. The other are trash.

I only read Nekopara cuz my online friends were reading it. It gets a bit better in Vol 3 and 4 when slightly more interesting character development happens (especially in 4 for the protagonist who was previously super boring) but if you didnt care for 1, I do not recommend going to the others.

@@TheAugustHail I saw a review & it took this guy over 40 hours to beat the first one and took another 20-30 hours for the side stories that takes place before &after the main novel. When I get to my ps4 later I’ll check if it logged in my time anywhere, but I can only imagine it took me longer since I did one door every couple of days or so and took frequent breaks. I was honestly scared I was going to finish it fast & fell in love and related to the characters and didn’t want it to end, but it’s a pretty immersive but long one. I don’t think anything can be as long as the entirety of Umineko lol 😂

Don't know if you've given it a try yet, but I've found 'Musicus' to be an absolutely phenomenal read so far, and I've only really gotten through about two of the four routes. Overdrive games in general tend to be wonderfully written(kira kira, deardrops, edelweiss.) so I'm kind of interested in hearing what you might have to say. At the very least, it's probably my favorite title of the year, pretty close with 9-nine episode four. Granted, I haven't read full metal daemon yet, and that one certainly *looks* like an astounding title. I've definitely heard good things, at least... Anyway, yeah. Musicus. It's not your traditional visual novel, mind you, and while the routes *are* named after the heroines, it's more that they just happen to be the love interest, and less that the route is actually about them in particular. The characters are all soundly written, mc included, and the story just flows so incredibly well. I'd say more, but it's the kind of story best gone into blind. That is, of course, if you haven't read it yet. It's definitely up there with the gold standard of the genre IMHO

Musicus fell through the cracks for me. But I've lots of good things about it. That said, I know absolutely nothing about Overdrive's work, and I was hesitant to read Musicus as my first experience of their work.

@@TheAugustHail I definitely do recommend giving some of their titles a try. Some of their games do suffer from abhorrant side routes(deardrops, in particular) but there arent very many of their games that I wholeheartedly dislike, which is odd as I am pretty particular about my visual novels. Most people hold mixed opinions on KiraKira, but its a good entry level title to their stuff. Kirari's normal end, actually, is probably one of the best individual character routes I've ever read. A lot of their routes come out remarkably human, somehow. Or maybe visceral is the best way to put it? One thing I love about their games is how the protagonists are written. Not as self-inserts, but as humans with issues and struggles and insecurities and hopes and dreams. It's a lovely thing, especially in a genre so oversaturated with cardboard cutout characters. I really wouldn't say there is a truuuly bad place to start. You can go chronologically, or pick and choose what looks nice before going any more in depth. Personally, I say read through KiraKira, Deardrops, and Musicus in whatever order you like. Most of their other titles are... well, not on the same level in terms of production quality. I wasnt much a fan of Bokuten or Dengeki stryker, after all, but even they had their moments... Overdrive is hardly the best developer, but I don't quite agree with how critical most people seem to be of them. More of their titles land on my 'amazing reads' than yuzusoft or pulltop, at least. Just don't leave them on your backlog forever, cuz you'll regret it!

Time to get more stuff added to my "I'll play this some day" list I'm still on Vol 2 for 9-Nine, so seeing Vol 4 getting to S gets me hyped up, I'm enjoying it so far I gave Fatal Twelve a good try but couldn't really get into it, might give it another go in the future Chris' route for Majikoi was the first one I played and it did leave a certain taste in my mouth, for what I've read Yamato doesn't get 'down bad' like that in other routes, so I'm willing to give it another go, specially since I really liked most of the cast I basically feel the same way about Nekopara, I didn't finish it, but I actually really liked the anime, it was one of my favorites for that season Tsukihime is a classic for me, I'm a fan of the Nasuverse so that should say enough. Can't wait for the far sides of the remake to come out. And them being in english would be appreciated Damn, I really want to read Umineko and Higurashi since I really liked the anime adaptations of Higurashi, but that time man, that shits an investment I'm on the tail end of "The Persona 5 of EroVNs", so I'm thinking to start the next year with Kimagure Temptation which thankfully you reminded me it had come out since I forgot Great video, it's always nice to hear what other people think of games I've played and also got my interest picked a couple of times with some entries I hadn't heard off. Doki Doki Literature Club is a mediocre meme game (not a visual novel) without any routes to flesh out the characters. It relies on subverting your expectation with one scene. The flat and uninteresting characters at that point in the story didnt have any development so why do you care if they die or not?
