My Train Scales & Gauges Display

Very nice display! Richmond VA. I have always wanted to hear the theater organ at the Byrd. Would like to work out a trip for our church seniors to listen to that organ.

Saw this yesterday at the model railroad show at the Science Museum and it was really great. It’s nice to see how big and small model railroading can be!

Excellent job sir. That explained quite a few questions. Thank you. I do have two more questions. *Why do some of the tracks have 3 rails* ? In my state, our trains only have 2 rails, so I wondered if some states have 3 rails.? *Can a 2 rail train work on a 3 rail track or vice-versa* ? Thank you.

Hello, Thank you for the kind words. O-Gauge and Standard Gauge Model Railroad Trains have traditionally had 3 rails. However, there are trains in those scales that run on 2 rails. The benefit to 3 rails is: Both of the outer rails are ground and the center rail is Power. So, track can be laid so a train can go in one direction, go through a switch, and "come back on itself" and go in the other direction, without needing any extra wiring. Visualize a closed "loop." The outer rails are both always ground and the center rail is always power. With 2 rail track: One track is ground and the other is power. You cannot do the above or the power track will connect to the ground track and short out. It can be done but you need to use a relay to change the polarity of the track as the train goes through different sections and "turns around." 3 rail engines can be converter to run on 2 rail tracks.
