i hate mulch as well and want to put rock down. my question is what if you want to add new plants and need to change the plants around? how do you do that with rock? is that difficult to clear the rocks to dig down to the soil for new plants or hedges? same goes if you put the weed fabric? rock is great but i hesitate because it seems a lot harder to move out of the way than mulch to plant new foliage. wont the soil get all over the rocks?
@rickstid-bits13 сағат бұрын
Hello. It's good that you are thinking about the future. And you are right. If you like to add new plants every year . . . then this might not be the right option for you. One of the key points with this is to not break/cut/tear the landscape fabric once it's down. Yes. You can push the rocks back, cut a small "x" in the fabric, dig your hole, plant the plant, push some soil back, cut and lay back as much as the fabric as you can, and then push the rocks back. But every time you do that you will take the chance of leaving dirt exposed , and open-up the chance for weeds to come through. Thank you for leaving a comment. Thank you very much for this video, Rick! We have a 2014 GX460, which although much newer, is mechanically very similar to the 4th and 5th gen 4Runner. Our GX has also recently started having an erratic gas gauge that starts off at Full after a fill up, but will meander up and down slightly while driving and now tends to read too low. Looks like it will not be too hard to drop the tank and replace just the sending unit.

Hi Kammie, Buy that plate. It is absolutely worth it - and you'll be happy with the dryer after that. In fact, it sounds like there was a very brief period of time that Speed Queen didn't include it, and they are now including it again. So, I suggest you contact your dealer, tell them the story, and make them get one and give it to you for free. If that doesn't work: Call SQ directly and talk them into sending you one for free. You need to fill in the mulch more densely , for low maintenance landscaping. That way you won't have to replace the mulch every year
@margaretlee-reed814Ай бұрын
💯 ... YES ... this helps from A to Z ... everything I'm looking to "accomplish" in an area on the entire length of a home. From blowing after the fall or any trimming, weed riddance, drainage, the "how to" correctly, how much rock needs to be purchased, terra stones may stay put even better than 1"-4" cobble stones (certainly better than the TINY white river rock or gravel meant for in between pavers). Previous owner's landscaping idea. Washes away. And, who wants to buy THAT MUCH mulch every few months; at least twice a year to look "okay". But, would NOT work in some areas ... washes away faster than stone and impossible to get out of grass once molded. Kills the yard grass; increases weeds while trying to grow back. Also, adding matching larger paver stones (sporadically but methoducally) in some areas for ladder use/weight/balance for bush/tree trimming to keep off roof line and away from house to walk behind. Can not Thank You enough for the ... solution ... to an ongoing 12 year problem. Our neighbor tackled the problem on his side of the/his house and has not had ANY problems for 12 -20 years. And, used ~ 2" white river rock. But, minimal algea can be noticeable if not picked out and replaced (or gently bleached?). From your video now I know how he accomplished a perfect landscape for a difficult area. Both homes (unfortunately) have to use the black plastic barrier because of the amount of water in this low(er) area; between our homes, after heavy storms & hurricanes. But, with enough stone (no weeds) and appealing/attractive landscaping ... his maintained plastic edge is barely noticeable; and only close up, not from end of driveway or street level. For a little more money ... may consider the (new) plastic no dig brick 6" "retaining wall" ... over the black plastic edge (already) in place. 50/50 on that added extra/optional expense and/or "final look". Time wise (no extra digging) even $40 per 5 feet x 40+ feet ... could be tempting. Either way ... "plastic" must be used if no time to build an actual stone retaining wall. Both use 10" spikes to hold. One curves more easily. So? With the darker stones ... this could be a win win (even less noticeable black plastic edge from street level). And, no "copy cat" of neighbor's yard work and idea. 😂 Individual looks that BOTH work! Maybe then I'll be brave ennugh to add some "color" to the mix! 😊 At least a few attractive large potting plants on a few of the larger pavers; with year round or seasonal flowers. Something "fun" not tideous and overwhelming and continuous .. no more constant/discouraging ALL DAY weed pulling year round. Next to do ... After actual "stone" retaining wall and pavers behind and around backyard pool. Newer neighborhood ... So, hurricane proofing 101. Your video helped ... TREMENDOUSLY. Sending to daughter & spouse. No mess ups. One time & done.🎉

Bought this Speed Queen TC 5 from a local mom and pop store on 9/2/24, couple of store employees brought it out, I opened lid, made a scraping sound, called store and was told all of these brand of washers make that sound. I also noticed foam/soap coming out of drain stand pipe, called Alliance company who builds Speed Queen washers was told we were using too much soap was not, was given the run around and typical stonewalling. I called store where we bought it, was told my drain was the problem, I had videos of foaming, then wanted a swap out or credit on my bill. They would not work with me. This went on for a month and a half. I had to call my credit card bank and file a dispute. Took almost a month for them to come pick up washer. Will not buy Speed Queen products no more. Company did not work with me nor the store. I think this machine has design flaws. It does not foam on permanent press cycle only heavy duty and ECO/normal cycle. By the way, company rep told me not to use ECO mode, not enough rinse water on last spin cycle. He told me this was a government requirement on washing machines and not to use it. We tried vinegar in the wash and fabric softener no avail. Beware before u buy. Do some research. We then bought another brand, Speed Queens are built pretty solid but company will not admit that this model has problems.

Hi, currently having same issue 05 4runner limited V8 - it did start with just the gas gauge. I took it to the dealer and they said I needed a new Gas Cap. After a $300 gas cap...the issue returned to the gauge but then all of the gauges on the dash were doing the same thing. jumpy needles. no speedometer. and odometer is also out. there's a source of connection because all the lights work. but all gauges are not working. I just use the digital gas gauge and haven't noticed any issues with the amount I have in the tank or when I'm filling up. just the gauges on the dash do not work. would this be the same issue as yours? I have another mechanic who's stumped by this issue.
@rickstid-bitsАй бұрын
Hi Melinda. I did not have that issue. My only problem was the fuel gauge. Since it's all the gauges on yours it has to be something common to all the gauges. I would look for a common Ground wire. And/or, make sure the power to the gauges is dead steady. Please click on the words “Rick’s Tid-Bits” underneath the video to go to my KZbin channel. Did anyone find it a nuisance to clean the filter? The design of the filter makes it stationary. It cannot be removed to clean the mesh filter, it is screwed fast. I am hoping that the filter never breaks down. Did anyone find the unremovable mesh filter a problem? Anyone with the same thoughts?
@rickstid-bits2 ай бұрын
Hi Linda. I agree. The big flat removeable screens were easier to clean. I don't want to be a downer, but I want to make you aware of something that is very important. A LOT of lint goes right through that screen. A lot of lint builds up beneath it, throughout the underside of the dryer, and also into the exhaust hoses and pipes. All of that needs to be cleaned - at least once a year. That screen can be removed with a screwdriver or hex socket. Please don't shoot the messenger. But I want you to know this and get that all cleaned out at least once each year. Thank you for leaving a comment. Since you have fabric covering the area around the plants entirely, you are keeping water and nutrients from getting to the plants, right? I saw a few things saying to not put rock or fabric right up to the plant so you can. Easily water and fertilizer in there. What do you think about that?
@rickstid-bits2 ай бұрын
Hi Kevin, That is not true. This fabric lets water, nutrients, and air pass through. The second thing you mentioned is also not true. On shrubs like the Azaleas in this video: You never water or fertilize right up against the trunk. There are no "live" roots near the trunk. As rain falls on shrubs and trees the leaves cascade that water outward - towards the outside edge of the plant. Think of an umbrella for a visual. All the water falls off the plant on the outside edge. Not much water lands in-between the main trunk and that outside edge of the plant. Shrub roots search for that water and grow towards where it can be found. As the diameter of the plant grows wider, the roots grow farther out. The outside edge of the plant is where all the "living" roots are. Those are the roots that take-up water and nutrients - and that is where water and fertilizer should be applied. Thank you for leaving a comment. Please click on the words “Rick’s Tid-Bits” underneath the video to go to my KZbin channel. The lava rock looks so nice! We need to redo our front landscaping next year, I am sick of dealing with mulch. It is expensive and labor intensive to apply every year. We put in a new sidewalk from the garage to around the back of the house. We filled in the space with stone so it looks so much cleaner. You could also go to a dollar store and look for a small box of blue, small trash bags, and try them. Our stores carry Glad “Beachside Breeze,” small, 4 gallon trash bags. They are about the same color light blue as the bags I use. If you try the trash bags - please come back let me know if they work for you. Thank you for leaving a comment. Please click on the words “Rick’s Tid-Bits” underneath the video to go to my KZbin channel. I think you’ll find some helpful and unique tips in my How to Make Life Easier or Better section. kzbin.info/door/c-IuUFzC2Tyv06KzJyBESg Rick

5:45 The fix. Add 1oz of vinegar in with the detergent. Personally I don't know people put so much soap in the washer. Use 1-2T only. If there are suds, use less detergent.
