This is probably the first time I have seen a viable, non-fussy process to achieve this kind of blended paint shades look. Resembles a subtle and interesting woodgrain look, but with paint. Love it!

Thank you. We have a 100 year old house with none painted trim we had to replace the windows but I want to stain them to match the original windows. The new windows are off white and the originals were dark brown stained.

Gallons of useful rich information which is easy to understand and fun to watch. Best furniture restoration tutorials on the internet, and there is a lot of good stuff out there. You put so much work into each video that it is a wonder how you look so energized and enthusiastic. Keep it up, it is highly appreciated. Speaking of, you have another tutorial on the stain over paint technique where you use you used a standard cappuccino stain over a latte colored paint and achieved what appeared to my amateur eye, a very similar final effect. What is the main difference here, the fact that it is a gel or the fact that it is a blend of different colors ? I'm not sure whether this is the same question , but is it possible to use different colors with a standard stain and a single color with a get stain as long as the other components are the same and achieve the same faux wood look ?

Great video! LOVE your videos. Question - do I need to use a special paint as the base or is regular latex paint like Benjamin moore ok? THANK YOU!!!
@BorninaBarnBoutique4 ай бұрын
@@annerewey4023 I don’t like latex paint on furniture - it isn’t meant for wood surfaces and can peel - if you use Benjamin Moore use their advance line - it’s great on furniture and this process can be used with it as long as it’s not a shiny sheen

I see you used a gel stain over paint, but can you also use a water-based stain over paint method?
@BorninaBarnBoutique9 күн бұрын
You can but the water based stains tend to set instantly making them harder to work and achieve a nice final finish

I know you are using lilly moon here and excited to get these products and try them too! :)... But was wondering if you know whether I can do this same type of blending technique with fusions SFO? Just without the water spray, I assume? :)
@BorninaBarnBoutique2 жыл бұрын
Yiu can use the fusion SFO over paint like this and yes no water since they are oil based you can use water to blend them
@ebsmith10004 ай бұрын
@@BorninaBarnBoutique Did you mean mineral spirits can be misted with the FSO ? Since I have your attention, how is this different in terms of process and overall effect than using standard stains over paint as per the tutorial you did using a standard cappuccino stain over an off-white ( I think) oil based paint on a wide dresser ? I'm actually waiting for the last coat of a white linen chalk paint to dry on an old oak kitchen table before I dive into the world of stain over paint ! I was planning on using a weathered grey Weathervane oil based stain, but now I'm leaning towards blending some grey gels. I'm not exactly expecting an answer before it completely dries, but I thought I's give it a shot. No more stain over paint tutorials for me tonight; don't know what I'll do if I come across a third option (which is out there for sure) !
@BorninaBarnBoutique4 ай бұрын
@@ebsmith1000 I’m sorry I was cross commenting and did say you can use water to blend and that was not correct here - with the SFO it has a 10 min open time and you cannot use water to help blend - I have never used mineral spirits to help it as it does pretty well on its own but you could if necessary 😀

@@BorninaBarnBoutique I didn’t mean blending paint and gel stain, I meant blending a few paint colors and then sealing with polycrylic. What make the gel stains different. This would be on the top of an already painted bureau that I don’t want to sand as the veneer is thin.
@BorninaBarnBoutique Жыл бұрын
@@kathleenwilliams2318 yes you blend the paints and seal with a poly for sure. The gel stains are a water based, full coverage stain with a built in top coat and can be used over painted surface or on a bare wood surface

It’s possible yes - depends on the glaze product - these water based gel stains apply easily and can be assisted with water for application - glazes tend to set and dry quickly making it hard to work with
