One of those places that you don't appreciate until it's gone. It was always run down, even when I first started going there as a young kid in the 80s, and in it's final years it became increasingly populated with assorted scrotes and wrong 'uns, but as others have said it had atmosphere and felt like a slice of working class life from a bygone age.

I really miss that place, such a wide varied choice of stalls and a great atmosphere. The new one doesnt even come close. Yes it was looking tired but investment was needed, but was neglected instead purposely so the council could grab back the land after the market charter expired in 1997.

I got knocked over on that steet by a double decker bus in 1987 on my way to go and see flight of the navigator at studio 5,6,7 in the wicker, I still went to see the film after with a white face in shock lol

My nan was sat their at the cafe with her trolley loved that market the new ones not even that nice to modern and have you got a video of the view from floor 5 in the lift!

Sam LJ went in the new one and it wasn’t even close, no one new each other, the workers was rude and there’s nothing in there

@@misscoutts619310 years on and still zero character, characters, expensive and souless. You go in, you don't know anyone, hardly any stalls and the middle is a mobility shop and shut stalls, the right hand side is the dead end to nowhere and the communal cafe seating smacks of the oasis at meadow hall, it's a dreadful place. I'll go and film it when they demolish it 👍
