I love the truck cover and I can envision a lamp that can be soft light when driving, and perhaps switch to soft rainbow changing colors when hanging out. I'm happy that you received the help you needed in adjusting to big life changes. But as a therapist, I'm recommending that you do some homework around problems with Better Help. In particular being under investigation for selling their client’s information and other unethical business practices.
@paulkinzer7661

Yes, thank you for pointing out each of the things you do here: softer light for safety, rainbow light for beauty. And I watch a lot of KZbinrs who have BetterHelp as a sponsor, as does NPR. It's fairly easy to find information on the internet about their questionable behavior. It's tough, though, because I know folks have actually gotten help through their 'product'. Laura, and others who I admire and look up to. And others I of course don't know. Mental health care can be so hard to access. It would be great if there was a system that worked this way that was ethical. In addition to what you say about client information, I've read that their business practices are similar to Uber, and their therapists are not getting what they ought to out of being part of this. I'm also not a lawyer, and am only describing what I've read elsewhere. Be careful, everyone, in a very literal way!

@@paulkinzer7661 The mega companies are never the way to go. Thankfully people I've watched on KZbin say they've been helped - which is wonderful. But there are a lot of therapists all over the world; difficulty in accessing is usually an insurance coverage issue or a location issue (rural communities, for instance), and sometimes a scheduling issue. Fortunately teletherapy can alleviate some of the issues in accessing. The mega companies promise the client a low fee, pay the therapist very little, pocket the rest, and sell client's private information; they don't have therapists with a lot of experience. Some therapists have complained that they're listed as a provider when they never even heard of them - BH got their name from public information and just listed them as "one of their thousands of therapists." So.. what's an alternative? One alternative is Psychology Today Therapist Directory is a nationwide (USA) and worldwide online directory. Each provider has a profile, most with a photo, a description of their services in their own words, location, insurance taken, private pay, sliding fee, etc. The filters are easy to use so you can search for type of problem, type of therapy (if you have an idea of what you want), gender of therapist, location, insurance, etc, etc.

Have you thought of making a parallelogram hinging mechanism that would let you lift the whole canopy above the truck cabin instead of only hinging it on one side? Might require some struts or something but I think it'll be pretty cool, especially when you want to access things from either side of the truck!

The lighted shell might be illegal here in So. Cal. while driving. I would check with the nearest CHP office and show them in person. The rules for lighting are pretty strick and custom jobs like this can be interpreted differently by the individual officers. I know for sure ground effect lighting of vehicles is illegal while driving but there's nothing on the books saying you can't have them on when the vehicle is parked.

Sorry Ms Kampf, you're not quite done. I don't know what the laws are in California, or Indiana for that matter, but now your rear view mirror isn't of any use. I have a Nissan van for my service vehicle and I have long lamented the lack of a rear view mirror. I picked up a rear view camera add on that doubles (and reverses the image) as a rear view mirror. cost me about a $100 from amazon. I think you should add this to your sail/truck/light. it also doubles as a dash cam with a front facing camera as well. I would recommend that regardless since we have a lot of crazy drivers in the US.

Great built, as always! Thanks for the video! I just wanted to mention that this sail maybe never before touched wood. After a bit of light googling the sail number (7574) hints to a CAL36 boat of Santa Barbara named "Runaway", This type of sailing boat is made out of glassfiber and has a mast made of aluminum. So you could have gotten away with using aluminum for your built and having sailing boat aesthetics nonetheless. Anyway this is just smartassing. So again, thanks for having us entertained!

The attachment of the clear acrylic on the front of the frame is Worthy Of Improvement. I can see it's already cracking the acrylic, see 3:35. Those cracks will continue to run and destroy the whole piece. The countersink fasteners you used are putting a stress concentration on the plastic. They can be use if torqued VERY, VERY lightly. The holes should be generously oversized for the shank of the fastener. Better would be round head fasteners, in oversized holes, with a "fender washer" to spread the clamping force, and as lightly torqued as possible. Also put the fastener holes as far away from the edge as you can manage. I'm looking for an online reference for the fabrication tips for acrylic sheet (plexiglass was the original brand name in the US), but I haven't found one yet - my airplane construction and repair references are not online.

When you put the lighting in did you put plugs in for the lighting connections, so you can plug/unplug the lights easily so you can disconnect the the lights to remove the canopy easily? Otherwise you could have used the fibreglass canopy and just altered the attachment method to hinge it? Also, it appears you have the hinges on the drivers side of the vehicle which would be painful if loading/unloading in the street due to the canopy hanging over the road while open.

When I saw the first image of the canopy lit up , especially when you said you would like to take it camping was that scene from the Austin powers when he went camping :-) kzbin.info/www/bejne/pXyVoIVtaLl6hposi=Kev38TB_nt8sCJYv

Beautiful! If it were my truck, next would be the stereo sound system. Actually, no, the stereo would come first, then the lights...

I love how organic your "make process" is because it leads to beautiful surprises and your final product emerges naturally from interacting with the materials.

Perhaps safer for a person riding a bike at night, but I think you're going to run into trouble with the police if you run that driving at night. California has a lot of regulations on cars/trucks -- moreso than other states.

A rope attached to the opening side would prevent the top from opening too wide and also distribute the weight of the top on both sides. Also the would be useful to close the top. Only pulling on it would bring the top down, and since you're on the open side you can "catch it" and lower it softly. Also ropes and sails go well together!

You may not want to use the light too much american drivers are easily distracted. Over all looks good though.

I don't know how it could be done but spreading the forces from the screws to a larger area should stop the acrylic splitting over time. Maybe like a metal washer holding down a rubber washer or something?

Never mind your break lights for safety, one of your tail lights is out 😋. Great work though, it emits a beautiful glow. 👌

As another safe item, for when you have the back cover down. You could install a camera that is set up, not as a reversing camera, but to be a replacement rear view mirror. Anyway love the show ❤😊
