Another great informative video. My fatsias are looking amazing this year and only just started getting attacked by black fly, I also spray with water. You mentioned your soil, I think I've made an error with my central border, as you know my soil is very sandy, when I removed the grass, I added some new topsoil, but at the time I wasn't thinking and it was only to top up what I'd dug out, when I planted in it , I used compost and soil conditioner with the plants, but i think it's all too free draining, the plants are not doing too great, I've been feeding liquid seaweed, but not sure whether I should re dig and add more in, I've mulched the top with bark to retain the moisture. I told you I lost my fatsia Needhams form , it was probably planted out too small, so I think I might give one another go, as I love the delicate finger leaves on it and yours looks fantastic. I also have a fatsia in my sunny border, which for the first couple of years looked awful, and I planned to dig up, but now the other plants have grown around it and added shade, its starting to look really healthy.

Thank you. How much organic matter you add to your new central bed will depend on the plants you’re using. If you planted Yuccas and Mediterranean type plants it would be fine in your sandy soil but if it’s big leaved plants like cannas and Musa the it will need the compost or manure digging lower into the bed so the roots can stay more moist.

Another great video! Thank you! Is chicken pellet feed or manure?
@tikitropicals657 ай бұрын
Thank you. If you add Manure to your borders and dig it in it will help feed the plants and hold moisture. Chicken pellets can also be dug in or are scattered on the top surface when no digging is required and will slowly break down and feed the plants. So both pellets and manure are a good feed for encouraging leaf growth.

Love your vedios thanks for all the information. Have you done a full sun border vedio before I love the look of shade plants but the right side of my garden get full sun morning and afternoon till sun down. I struggle with the full sun side shade is easy to plant. Thank you

Hi and thank you for your comment. The left side of my garden gets full sun but due to the height of some of my plants and trees in my garden most of it is semi shade and shade. This makes it easier for me to cover shady borders. I will try to do something on a sunny border soon. Cheers.

Hi Tiki Tropical. I have a small patio shady area near the house. I would need to grow most of the plants in pots. What planting medium would you recommend for plants like fatsia and impatients
@tikitropicals657 ай бұрын
I would use a multipurpose compost with perlite or grit added. They want to be moist but free draining. Peat free compost can dry out quick in pots so not ideal for plants like Impatients that like to stay moist.

An immature spittlebug hiding in the foam and yes it does suck the juices from the plant.

Thank you so much for that. I will do a little research. It’s much appreciated.
