My Dad had one of the first C4's in California. It was a silver Z51. I topped it out one day at 130mph, not a mph more that's all it had bone stock on a 3 mile flat freeway. The CHP that radared me was a friend of his so didn't pull me over because he thought Dad was driving. But he did call him at work! We had an interesting conversation when Dad came home from work that day. All he said was, "So, son... how fast does my Corvette go anyway?" I stammed... uh... 130mph. He said, "That's what the CHP said. Just because I am at work doesn't mean people aren't watching your every move. Be more careful." And that was it! My Dad was the best.

Ahhhhh THE BOOK FAIR! Where mom gives you $5 to buy a book or 2. Everybody else is geeking out about the new books... and I go straight to the car posters. Back then that was your chance to get your poster or posters for that year! I have talked about this many times! I am about 9 years younger than Rabbit so it was the Dodge Viper, 911 Porsche, c5 vette, Lamborghini Diablo and 355 Ferrari. Things were SO MUCH more simple then....... Gotta say I miss those days!

With a QA1 stage three autocross suspension, blower and shift kit the C4 was very fun to whip around a track. And cheap too. Spent $2,500 on Vette and $2,300 on the suspension upgrades and Magnusson sent me the blower for free. I run it on Sport Cup IIs wrapping Weld Racing Tim’s.

After having a bad week, I needed a talk from the Rabbit. This 35th anniversary Corvette turns out to be your karma. Old Corvettes drive like shit but they are cool. My 1970 454 convertible in bronze would draw a crowd everywhere I drove it. Happy the day it came off the transporter and happier the day it left the garage .

I'm a C4 nut too. Always have been. I liked the super clean body lines compared to the swoopy C3 Mako Shark body, and the rake of the C4 "A" pillar. While the C4's still squeak and rattle a bit, with the aluminum Formula One suspension and Goodyear Wingfoot tires they are a blast to drive and come out of the corners with purpose. With a curb weight of 3,150 lbs +/- , 300 horsepower under the hood they are just a great , well balanced GT driver. I was in the service at the time, and had been deployed, so I hadn't seen the new body style yet. First time back in my home town, I think the bank manager had bought one of the new C4 convertible, and it was sitting all shined up right in front of the bank. It was black with tan top and tan leather interior, with black carpet. I couldn't take my eyes off that car. It was just beautiful !!!

My Corvette story starts similar to yours. 1995 my Dad buys a brand new blazer S10. In the show room a 1995 polo green corvette with Black and Tan interior sat. I was going on 16 so wanted Dad to buy the vette so bad. Salesman letting me sit in it, starts it up throws some revs. I’m in love. Dad didn’t buy it but I did 23 years later. A 1995 polo green C4 shows up on a local used car lot. I stop and I’m looking at it. Sales men comes out tells me it’s a local trade the gentleman traded it for an SUV because he’s getting old and can’t get in and out of it anymore. I grab the VIN go to the Chevy dealer and ask if they had and sold this car in 1995. Yes sold November 14th 1995 a month after my Dad bought the blazer. It’s that C4. Go back to the lot I asked what the price was, he said 10k. I didn’t even haggle I said that’s tax tags out the door. Yes. I went down to the bank got 2 5k straps of new 100 bills walked in to the car lot and said sold. It has 16k on it was garage kept all its life.

If I ever got the opportunity to meet you at a car show, I'd have to tell you the stories of myself and my grandpa taking the trucks from the company he ran to auctions, him getting pulled over and making new trooper friends, and the other wacky stuff that happened when we ran the Chevys, the Dodge, and the Ford. All four hold special places in my heart for the memories all of them have for me, I miss them, especially the Expedition and the Silverado, that Chevy was my baby, and everyone there knew it.

That’s what’s amazing about cars in general, the ability to transport you back in time. Every one is a Dock Brown Delorian at heart. Add to that the fact that’s it’s the same car you fell in love with at some random dealer in Florida 30 years earlier. Man.... my dear mother would call this “Beshert”, which is Yiddish for “destiny”, usually used to describe a couple who were meant to be.

🎶 Reunited and it feels soooo good! 🎶 I get it, I too have a love for a certain car that is not looked upon all that favorably. It’s not the fastest, the best looking, or even the most reliable, but there is something about an extremely clean IROC-Z that I love. Maybe it’s because the majority of the ones you see have five different colors of paint (One of which is definitely primer), The way it idols you’re not sure if it has a big cam or it is just running on 7 cylinders, but when you do come across The extremely rare pristine example… There’s nothing like it. Thanks for another great video.
