My Ultimate Case For The MX Corne Keyboard | Tented & Regular

Hey guys! Hope you enjoyed the video! I've really enjoyed how this case has enhanced my experience with the Corne, as I was originally using a very minimal one made out of fr4 plates you might have seen in my other videos. Some of you have mentioned that this case looks similar to the design of the case by VOID. I haven't printed or tried this case out myself, but it seems to be a good alternative option if you have a 3d printer or would like to 3d print a case for the corne yourself as well as source the switch plates and assembly/tenting hardware separately. This is my own design, made around the outline of the corne pcb with common 3d print design techniques with the goal to provide a high quality print with everything you'll need to assemble and optionally tent your keeb, making sure that everything fits together nicely with my own corne keyboards (wireless & wired with RGB lights). I'm working on a complete guide on soldering, flashing and assembling the Corne that I hope will also be helpful and should be coming out soon!

Hey! Thanks for the feedback. The VOID case definitely looks like a good option if you would like to 3d print the case yourself. This is an alternative design I put together that uses pretty standard 3d print design techniques based off of the outline of the Corne pcb. That’s why they might look similar, but they’re not the same. I wanted to provide an option with a high quality print that also includes everything else you’ll need like standard fr4 switch plates as well as all of the assembly and tenting hardware. I’d say the most similar feature is the optional honeycomb pattern on the bottom of my case. This is designed, placed, sized and tested so that all rgb underglow lights are exposed and they shine through properly. This might also be true for the VOID case but I haven’t tried or printed it myself to test out.

Nice, I decided to buy a keyboard a while back when I watched your first video about the Corne, also got inspired by your layout even though I am trying home row mods at the moment. How do you like the tenting so far ?

I'm really liking it! I've been trying it out with my forearms resting on my chair's arm rests and my hands hover over my keyboard and I find it pretty comfortable. I've also tried with memory foam wrist rests with more so my palms resting on them and have found it pretty comfortable as well. If I'm travelling, I use the non-tented case with my wireless corne.

Hey! I can see why they might look similar, but they are not the same. I started off by designing a shell with a closed bottom around a 3d model of the Corne pcb and then added m4 sized tenting screw hole locations where they traditionally should go on the case. After doing so, I debated whether to make an alternative case with an acrylic bottom or simply use a pattern on the bottom of the case to let rgb underglow lighting to shine through. I opted for the pattern instead of acrylic for simplicity’s sake. In contrast to the case design by VOID, which uses a Voronoi pattern for the bottom, I made use of a honeycomb pattern that I intentionally sized and positioned so that each of the rgb underglow lights would not be obstructed and could shine through. Finally, I wanted to have a standard solution to make sure the case wouldn’t slide and could be used on a glass table, so I decided to have the tenting screws facing down and designed the 3d printed caps for them, sized for the rubber bumpers included in the kit.

Is it comfortable in this position all day without a palm rest?

I’d like to know the answer to your question too. I’m using a Dygma Defy and the integrated palm rest was one of the many reasons for choosing this specific keyboard. After using the Defy for about 10 weeks, I can definitely say that I prefer a keyboard with an integrated palm rest, especially if you use tenting.

Hey! I'd say it depends. If you aren't using a palm rest, what I've found most comfortable is to have a good ergonomic chair positioned properly so that your forearms are resting on it and your hands can easily hover over your keyboard. I've also tried using memory foam wrist rests from Amazon that I've found pretty comfortable. I've added a link to them in the description. If you're using wrist rests, you should aim to support more so your palm instead of your wrist. Hope that helps!
