I have the same chair, but am actually considering selling it. It is a GREAT chair, no arguments, but I find myself spending less and less time in it as the whole bit of getting it setup, and climbing in and out is a real pain. Plus I use it for both Flight Sim and Racing, but there is no easy way to handle both so i'm constantly swapping out devices. The main problem is it just sucks for "everyday pc" use, which is fair since it isn't designed for that. But it means you kind of still need a traditional desk *and* this and you have to move back and forth which is just a pain.

JayzTwoCents how hard was assembly? i bought over the last couple years parts for my cockpit, an apiga ap2 off of amazon. had to buy seat mount and seat separately since they couldnt afford to ship it stateside. its keyboard mount is rotational but it still gets in the way and the mousepad mount is way too small. in fact i couldnt even get the seat to align properly. spent about the same as the obutto but with out all the quality. no cable management meant ziptying everything. its ergonomics are just wrong all around. it was definetly made for a smaller frame. in fact my wife has issues with it and she is 5'2" with a small frame. but i digress, i dont know how she is gonna take it when i go ahead and plop down on an obutto, but oh well haha

While the expensive cockpits certainly look good, if you have basic timber knowledge you can whip something up just as functional for a fraction of the price. Plenty of free designs on the web. $50-80 in timber and a used car seat.

I have the same rig and you can swap the seat out. I am a big guy and found the Obutto seat to be a little narrow for endurance racing. The seat base width is the same as a standard racing seat so I just went to Summit racing and bought a wider bucket seat and it fits perfectly. I have also had to replace the seat rails (sliders) before and all the bolt holes are standard stuff so even cheap Ebay seat rails fit if you ever have to change them out. Just FYI for anyone thinking of this setup. It's awesome BTW, zero flex and everything is in the right place. I have transducers attached to mine on the four corners using Simvibe. The rig is so solid that every detail from Simvibe is passed through the chassis. Great stuff.

Hey Jay. I usually don't leave comments, but I have to say that over the past year, I watched your videos and became inspired. I made my own KZbin channel, and it doesn't have a lot of hits (and I expect it to never blow up). But I do it as a hobby. But the other thing is that your passion for helping others, inspired me to help others as well. Which is why I went out and got my A+ (along with Sec+ and Net+), and now I am an IT administrator for one of the biggest colleges in the country. I just want to personally thank you. I know you probably will not read this, and not looking for any thing in return. I simply want to say thank you, and I hope to inspire and help others like you have. Again thanks, and stay being honest. Transition!

Hanging (Pendant) Style pedals - you can do this with a mod kit for the Club Sport V2s (which I have) but for the V3's like you have you can buy them in pendant style (hanging clutch and brake) with floor hinged throttle. Feels much more like a real car as virtually all racecars are setup that way.

Honestly, I think both headsets would work equally well in this application. Since your not using the motion tracking that the Vive offers in a racing sim.
@zedzedski7382
@zedzedski7382 7 жыл бұрын
Both headsets work equally well. There is no difference between the image quality as both have same specs. The core difference is sensors and touch controllers. Also, HTC Vive is bulky as fuck compared to Oculus Rift. HTC Vive weighs 555 grams without cables and headphones and mic, while Oculus Rift weighs 470 grams with headphones and built in mic and all cables. If you use VR just for sim racing then get Oculus Rift - it's much lighter and cheaper (costs $500 without touch controls on Amazon) but if you play games where moving around is a thing then get HTC Vive. I got Oculus Rift for my sim racing setup and it's fantastic. Tried also HTC Vive and as I said, it's bulky as fuck and heating like a bitch.
@Robonator14
@Robonator14 7 жыл бұрын
your info is a bit outdated, since the new revisions of the Vive are in fact around the same weight of the Rift. heat is an issue with both headsets, not only the vive.

depends on your mindset. I know some people who would include their hourly wage into the cost since they could work during the time they used builing it instead. If you're one of those guys it might not be woth it depending on how much you earn and how long it takes to weld that construction (I have no idea how long this would take).

A day. Starting from designing a model, then buying tubing and finishing with paint. It took me 4 hours to make, since all parts were at friends garage except car seat. In these 4 hours at work I would make only 15€ so it's no brainer for me to build it myself, over the paying 800 for kit with flaws.

For the detachable shifter mount. Drill a hole and use a pull pin. The pull pins are available at any McCoys, tractor supply or farm related store. If that pipe is very thin in wall thickness that drilled hole will get bigger with repetitive usage. Sleeving that hole will make it last longer to every day usage.

I see a lot of comments that mention how one can buy a car for the price of a racing rig lol most of us with racing rigs already have cars so we don't need to buy another car, specially a junker for 2500. Fun cars don't cost 2500 lol.

have my g920 mounted on a wheelstand pro with the extra shifter add-on on the side. Made an E-Brake from a simple flight-stick. Love it to bits! Using my livingroom chair with it since the wheelstand pro can be adjusted in all angles! Works great!

Great video but please bear in mind, you have an international audience. The whole "Murica" thing is crass and unnecessary. Talk about the tech, critique the quality, leave the nationalism for lesser beings.

Archibald Octavion It's his channel, and the way he feels. he is an American... in America... on an American platform... get over it. it's not like he said anything bad about other nationalities. So tired of libtards that get mad when someone shows any sort of national pride. "Hey you can't have national pride, it might hurt someone's feelings. we need to make this a safe space that doesn't make anyone feel left out."
@Skellist

Get over it, I'm fairly certain that there are many German and English people who take pride that Mercedes and Jaguar (respectively) are made in their countries. Jay supports workers in his home country, how on Earth is that a bad thing?
@lionhardt75
@lionhardt75 7 жыл бұрын
Archibald Octavion I read your comment before watching the video, so I paid attention, listening carefully for Jay saying "Murica". I didn't hear it anywhere. If I missed it, I would appreciate a timestamp so I can find it. The only reference to the US I heard was Jay saying that the product is made in America, and that's a good thing. If that's what you're referring to, are you suggesting that a calmly spoken statement highlighting one company's efforts to not outsource jobs is "crass and unnecessary", and is a result of nationalism? I am aware that many countries are struggling with keeping manufacturing jobs as more and more move to China. This problem is not unique to America, and understanding this problem is not a result of nationalism or being a "lesser being".

Archibald Octavion Listen, if it had been made in a Germany, England, or Canada, he would've been fine. We are just concerned about it being made in China or Vietnam.

Suggestion about the mount for your shifter, you could get a rod with a bolt at the top and at the bend you can have your wing nut to tighten it down.

For the shift mount, you can drill some holes and use a metal pin (like they have on beach/porch umbrellas) instead of nuts and bolts for quick removal.

that's a nice seat, i just thought of something, you can drill a hole in that shifter arm, but drill it to the size and height of the quickrelease screw, that way you only need yo unscrew that a bit and its lose, instead of having to take out the bolt.

Years ago there was a game called Dirt track racing. Our state of the art controller was the Force feedback wheel and pedals made by Microsoft. Since I was driving racecars on dirt and paved ovals I wanted something that felt more like a real car. Back then the only way was to build it yourself. I had been buying stuff from guys getting out racing , keeping what I could use or reselling so I had a lot of parts laying around doing nothing , so I built a custom set up using these parts and the force feedback wheel. After welding up a cockpit modeled after an I.M.C.A. modified I dug thru my parts bin to find a Butlerbuilt seat ( slightly bent in a wreck , no longer safe) 5 point belts that were past their service date. I then took the pots out of the pedal box and hooked them up to a set of Willwood racing pedals and mounted them to a plate that allowed them to be adjusted. I removed the wheel from the control box , made an adapter to move the box about halfway between the pedals and the dash. The adapter allowed me to mount a removable racing wheel and all I had to do was wire the buttons to the racing wheel It was the only way I had to "race" in the winter. I sold it with the house. Still regret doing that.

love my revolution. The seat sucks tho. just changed my seat out this year modding it allowing the seat base to tilt up/down. Ive also modded the shifter mount so it sits low like a real car with a Thrustmaster TH8A hard mounted.
