Thanovic I really agree with the fundamentals approach, I have about 500 hours in RL and for the first 350 I just worked on accuracy in shots and car control and fancy stuff like wavedashes, flicks etc. I have found that for the past 150 hours I have progressed sooo much more by just working on speed, I think that if you have the car control speed and speed alone can make you so much better so much faster.

2:09 Try to contain a solo play when your teammate is already in the air, this is how most counterattacks and goals form. Just wait for him to be down so you can apply pressure on the enemy team, if you waited and stayed on the middle side you could've rotated for his ceiling pass and maybe scored it or passed it to the backboard.

Shane Amare I bet you get wrecked in 3s. It’s so weird how typically the 2 player types are such opposites. In champ1 in 3s but like plat 1 in 1s. And in 3s you rarely have time to even use Any of the mechanics mastered in 1s. In 2s you def can though 3s is more about power shots and accuracy and speed and most importantly, working as a team to make plays. Once you get to like high diamond doesn’t matter how good you are you aren’t gonna score much if you aren’t throwing up redirect passes and creating opportunities that break opponents rotation. All things that are irrelevant in 1s. The tip is valid bc at lower ranks 1s will help you get sold basic mechanics like ball control stuff. Whereas me, I’m level 2000+ and already have that stuff so there’s not a whole lot I gain from 1s anymore. For a long time though my ball control suffered from lack of 1v1 play. (My car control is nasty though from playing a crazy amount of dropshot back before it was even ranked with much higher level players than myself since there weren’t many people in those playlists) I wish I had forced myself to play like a minimum of 10% of my matches in 1s for like my first 500 hours or so. Although it doesn’t do much for me now, I would likely be a high champ-GC if I had done that as many of my friends are who started playing at same time and the biggest noticeable difference between us over time was they always had better ball control (from 1s and from free play which I also wish I did more of but I thought was too boring

Matt S I’m champ 2 in 3s and D3 in ones, and I’m the highest rank of my friends in 1s and it easily shows, even tho they’re the same rank, I’m way better mechanically, especially at dribbling. All I did was play ones for a while back and jumped from like D2 to champ 1 after my break from it
@metacob4 жыл бұрын
This video cleared some things up for me! I don't play often and I totally suck at aerials, dribbling, and frankly I keep missing the ball completely lots of times. I almost never play ranked because I think I'd drag other people down. But in unranked I get matched with people doing all kinds of fancy stuff in the air yet I end up being the top scorer in lots of games. Turns out I've been doing rotations / momentum pretty well - I've been calling it "being in the right place at the right time" and it really helps a ton.
@_vexity_4 жыл бұрын
it’s really pretty crazy how much this video helps me. a few months back I discovered this video and it’s what helped me get from plat to diamond. My entire play style was completely changed, and all for the better. I took a break from RL for a while and just recently started playing it again. I was extremely rusty when I came back and I was playing like myself when I was stuck in plat again, and because of that, I went all the way from diamond 1 back to plat 1. I was losing every game I played. then I remembered this video and how much it helped me, and after watching it again and refreshing my brain with everything you went over in this video, i’m currently at plat 3 and playing like my normal self when I was a diamond. I was one game off of diamond many times but unfortunately couldn’t get that promotion. i’ll definitely get back to it tomorrow and hopefully get to diamond, but I just wanted to thank you for how much you’ve helped me improve in RL!
@NickIsBlasted3 жыл бұрын
On a podcast, Virge (Dignita’s coach) said that during scrims he never cared if his team lost, not just because the games didn’t matter, but because that practice time was about improving as a team. I have taken up that way of thinking when I play 1s. Ultimately I play 1s to learn and I don’t fixate myself on the result of each game. It is an ideology that has helped me get a lot less triggered in 1s, and helped me stay focused on my development as a player. (Kind of an obvious take, but I feel its a really good tip for when u r grinding 1s)

One thing I've noticed as I play more and more for rocket league as a good sign is seeing similar plays between higher ranks and your own. To put into context, I'm a diamond 2-3 and often watch champion/grand champion clips from other people. Over the course of gold, to plat,to diamond, I've noticed more and more instances where people make similar plays to how I do, and maybe sometimes improved versions of them. That means that you're at a level of understanding of a ah at a certain level, and completely understand the mechanics and ways behind the improved version to, and will be able to implement them into your plays, making you better. So always watching higher rank or same rank plays is a key point
@nicholas84764 жыл бұрын
To your powershot tip, I’d add that way too many players even at higher levels will get the ball and simply boom it away to the opponent 1/2, ceding possession, rather than controlling the ball and passing somewhere you/teammate can follow it up. Possession (for you or within your team) is really key. Otherwise, you’re just throwing potential plays away. Boom the ball if everyone is out of boost or you just want ball out of your half. But usually, it’s best to hold onto possession and set up a play/pass whenever it’s possible. So if you’re at a level where you can pass at that speed and your teammates can make contact, great. But if you’re just smacking the ball down the field and praying something happens and it magically sets up a play, that’s the wrong idea.
@Sky6Knight4 жыл бұрын
When you say go 100% or don't go at all, I slighty disagree. Although I'm only C1, maybe I can add a little input to that, when the opponent has the ball, and you are too far to make a good challenge, just going and pressuring by "being there" and forcing him to make a flick (and effectively passing to your TM) is a very good strategy. The possession has changed, you still have boost has you did not went in the air, and you are upfield in a good position for a counter-attack. And that's not 100% and not 0% either. What do you think ?

I think its so important in the lower ranks when you’re that last man back to just watch your teammates or the enemy team as they play near the net. There’s so many times i score goals just from the enemy team making a mistake or just passing it straight towards their goal. In lower ranks, all the mistake you make are probably mistakes that other people are making as well. Tip #9 is what helped me the most. I only had about 60 hours in game and felt like I plateaued pretty hard after learning very quickly. I could hit decent aerials and pass well but that was about it. Then I just decided one day I was going to learn how to air dribble for fun. What I didn't realize until after is that taught me how to read the wall WAY better, how to get good clears off the wall and follow them, overall better ball control and WAY better aerial control. Once I realized that I learned how to do flip resets, half flips, quick starts, fast aerials, floor to air dribbles, flicks and wall pinches. I can consistently do wall to air dribbles to goal now and even though it almost never happens in game, just practicing that has helped me so much mechanically.

I think the tip about waiting for your opponent is tough. If it is a 2v1 or 1v1 at the net challenging might not be the move. Sometimes waiting closer to the net gives you a better shot at a save because you can accurately guess where they are going to shoot.
@marcelhavenga11483 жыл бұрын
for me a fundamental tip that has been something i see a problem for many players is that they far to often stay on the gas and not the brakes and so i always try to teach brake before your touches or aerials or when the ball is heading to the wall fast and many other situations where losing momentum is not a bad thing and having time t change direction on a challenged ball helps so much

I’m brand new to the game. It’s really fun. But the tip so far that has helped me the most is understanding and stopping myself when I know that there’s a low chance that I’m going to get to the ball first, and even if I do it’s a worse play than if I repositioned and tried to make a better opportunity for myself. I’ll work on my mechanics of course. But I need to understand where I’m at and what I’m currently capable of first.

If your teammate goes for anything resembling a flip reset or a wall dribble, dont go for it at all, especially in 2s. I'm a gc an this is SUPER annoying when lower ranks do this. Most likely the flip reset has a better chance of going in, rather than forcing the play as a pass. Even if they suck just let them go for it.

Basically for you lower ranks a wave dash is where you jump up tilt forward and then immediately tilt backward and just when your back wheals are going to hit the ground you flip forward. A half flip is when you back flip and immediately tilt forward, then air roll

Another tip for under C2/C3: The faster you go for the second touch on the ball, the better. Typical silver shot: player 1 hits ball. Ball flies and contacts wall. Bounces off and hits ground. Comes back down, and then teammate 2 tries to go for it. Gold, maybe teammate 2 can get his follow up touch when ball hits the ground. Plat, prolly aerials to hit ball coming off wall. D, player 2 is prolly gonna be ready to hit the ball either before it hits wall or right after. C1, the second player is probably actually receiving a pass and ready to hit it as soon as it reaches him. Above that, your second player can probably read decently, where the ball is going as soon as it’s hit and position/fly to read either the path or the bounce off the wall (this is where we start to get things like re-directs that actually work, fast reads off walls/backboard, etc). - So Basically, the sooner you’re getting up and following up your teammate’s touch, the less time your opponents have to counter it and stop your play. Actually achieving faster follow-ups? Comes down to positioning, then speed and boost management, then accuracy of the initial pass/set-up. How do you get better? Practice going for the follow-up touch as soon as you see your teammate hit the ball, and being in the correct position to send it someplace useful when you see player 1 going for ball. You’ll miss plenty, but eventually you’ll improve those skills. Eventually you will see a ball just coming at your teammate and instinctively know where he’s gonna be hitting it, allowing you to position very well or even at times pre-jump, to out-pace opponents. This is a good deal of why pro play looks so much less fragmented and more continuous than in a low-level game. But it’s something you can continuously practice and improve on, throughout the ranks.

To add on to the Powershot mechanic players between C1-GC1 tend not to realize just HOW important getting the absolute most power out of the ball is. Usually when they go for a shot they have an average strength power shot. But they can hit it harder, once you start hitting it harder at those ranks (if you already were wondering why you were getting hard stuck) then generally you will rank up. And thats even without the accuracy portion required for those.

1. Power shots are everything. 2. Don't always use your second flip (takes your teammate out of position, better to get down to the ground asap) 3. Don't leave your teammates in a 2v1 or 3v2 4. Never give your opponent time on the ball 5. Play 1s. Forces you to figure out your own flaws and improve your ground play quickly. If you get scored on, it's your fault. 6. Focus on the fundamentals: Positioning, rotation, and speed. 7. Take advantage of momentum 8. Either fully commit to the ball or don't go at all. 9. Practice hard mechanics 10. Train in bursts
