Hey man, how goes it? This is kind of hilarious to me because my crates are a complete disaster😂😂😂. Basically, I have created folders on my portable HHD that are named after the dates the music files were transferred from my main download iMAC (ie. today's folder would be labelled : 10052024). Then, those folders are transferred to the MUSIC folder on my Serato DJ computer. Next, I create a new crate in Serato and label it with the next number in the sequence (I'm at 10) and drag the new music files into the crate. Everything was starting to get messy in the crates, so I usually limit 3 or 4 folders per crate. Next, I highlight all the files in the crate and analyze them. Viola! I have done a small amount of organization. Some crates are self-explanatory like "Must Play" or "DJ Intelligence TOP 200" and then there is "Openers and Closers"(which are the songs I always begin and finish my shows with. ie. The Blues Brothers " I Can't Turn You Loose" or Black-Eyed Peas "Let's Get It Started" to open and Roy Rogers "Happy Trails" or Red Peters "The Closing Song" to close. It's a work in progress) I also built a crate with "Halloween Hits" which will come in handy tonight since I'm playing a Halloween gig at an RV park tonight. Also, I have a "Power Set" crate which I use at the top of the last hour of the gig. This is the tracks that usually get everyone up on the dance floor like "YMCA", "Macarena", "The Electric Boogie", "Cha Cha Slide #2" etc...) With all this, my crates are a disaster to say the least. No matter how I try to prepare, I always draw a total blank for about 10 minutes and scramble for ideas on what to play to kick things off. Things always work out in the end, but it's through trial and error.
