The key is to get the high end. You will pay a bit more, but it will last years longer usually be in the 100-200 range. Where cheaper stuff is already on the way out and more expensive stuff gets exponentially more expensive for linear increases.
@justanotherhuman-d6l4 жыл бұрын
@@alexandernava9275 You also have a higher chance that the higher end items will hold their value longer for resale purposes.

That a nice and tidy setup that you have. I've have often thought that house builders should include a conduit / run when construction is taking place .
@garym.freedman28474 жыл бұрын
Yep-Homebuilders should just include the conduit and infrastructure, and just take the cost onto the home-Won't raise price that much if done during build!

No because that would raise the cost of the house and most will say, I don't need conduit because everything in my house is WiFi .... So im not paying for that

As a sysadmin, your setup looks good. The only thing that I would add would be an UPS for the all rack system (if you go for this, I recommend APC, try to buy one with at least 1000VAs both rackmount capability for the future as well as using it out side with a proper support), an extra shelf for those devices on switch, and that patch panel not behind the cable panel (but for a home system is ok).
@PhenomII1090T4 жыл бұрын
Stumbled across this in my recommended feed today, I've seen quite a few high view count "Home Network Overview" videos on here that are... well they're functional... But they're not great in my opinion from both an equipment, and layout perspective. As a slight OCD IT/AV guy, primarily focused in IT for as long as I can remember hat's off to you, looks sharp and sounds like you know your stuff, as mentioned before there is perceived hesitation but you've seemingly done your homework, and you've done a good job, be confident to show it off. The OCD coming out in me though, my only two minor suggestions to clean it up a little would be to snatch up some 8" or 1' pre-termed patch cables for your patch panel interconnects, TrippLite makes some nice thin cat6 cables that I've used with great success in many home racks similar to yours. Second would be find some power strip liberators, I've heard them referred to as outlet savers, and get all of your power running clean behind the PDU. Looking forward to the Home Theater overview, if it's anything like this I'm sure it'll be a good watch.
@BeggiA7024 жыл бұрын
Nice setup! compact and clean. Never seen anybody put the Cable Manager over the patch panel before tho, intresting idea. If you are gonna upgrade something in the future I recommend you upgrade to a managed switch like unifi US-24 or even USW-Pro-24-POE for more "future proofing" and then add a solid uninterruptible power supply (UPS). I am by no means an expert on this IT stuff, but I spend most of my days cheking it out and dreaming of owning a "ballin" setup.

@unusualbob4 жыл бұрын
As much as it might be annoying to edit, you may want to do 2 or 3 takes of anything that you feel a little shaky on. The section around 6:45 is a good example of something that is probably worth reshooting as your long hesitation breaks the flow of what you're trying to say. You may be surprised how much easier it is to explain something after your 3rd time through it. Of course you'll also get better the more you talk to the camera in general. Good luck on your channel.

So I went that route. nice set up though, I'm trying to run something like this in my house

WOW you got some sick hardware man !!! OH OH OH I ALSO HAVE A DLINK !!!! lmao I have an old one. It's the DNS 123. It's an oldie but it still runs. I just run bluray movies through it though. I was going to to junk it when I get my new NAS but what you said about using only documents and stuff with is a great idea. So thanks to YOU, I've decided not to banish my Dlink to the scrap heap just yet 😏😏😏😉😉😉 You're right, you're network is very neat, organized, colored cabling so you know what is going and where. . . sweet. Lemme tell you that your idea of thinking it out and doing some planning really paid off. In the beginning, I TOO only thought about filling gaps with not much beyond serving a purpose. . . no future proofing. But I have to tell ya I'm salivating over that DS1019+ though man. . . I'm seriously thinking of getting the 1019+ as well. I'm thinking of starting the bay by getting 3 WD RED 6TB hdd to start. I can always fill in the remaining 2 bays at another time. Right now I have a DS 214play [2 bay w 2 - 4TB WD Reds running in jbod] Anyway, HUGE PROPS for all your hard work, and the guts to put your work out there for us to ogle it 😁. And yes, please do put out another vid about the usage stuff and the interior setup stuff. I'd be interested in seeing that, as I'm sure many of us would too.

Well done. I'd very interested to see the entertainment and NAS. I'm kind of at that point where something needs to be done. I had all my CD's on an Escient E2 300 and it finally broke. Can't get that fixed anymore so I need to build something to replace it. I really did like it. I've got DVD's on an old Sony carousel and many more that need a home.
