I'd recommend some emergency TP or wet wipes. Glad you addressed the tools aspect. Things like a powerpack to jump your car, or some means to repair a flat etc. Good vid.

I see so often people have way more knives and fire starters than they really need. I have been using the same bic lighter for years on backpacking trips and so I am fine to only carry one in my car emergency kit. One good knife is also plenty. I would consider trading out redundant items for more food. Way more practical than most kits I have seen.
@joshuathompson41625 жыл бұрын
I'll one up you. I have been backpacking for over a decade, hundreds of miles in every weather imaginable. I have never once needed a fire or knife. I stopped carrying knives and use a tiny sparker if I want to mess around. I stopped carrying rope too. It's just dead weight. Have a good jacket, have a way to clean and carry water, have good shoes.
@wastelandwarrior97389 ай бұрын
I agree but I do keep one back up knife but I just one for work daily. Just never know if you will lose it or it breaks
@Mark-op7zt2 жыл бұрын
This is way more practical than carrying everything and the kitchen sink around in your vehicle.

Nicely done. Very complete and SMALL; easy to carry if necessary. So many car kits require a Sherpa or pack mule to go anywhere.

Every year I see footage of people trapped in their vehicle by extreme weather and I am amazed at how few are actually prepared for such an occurance even though it happens EVERY YEAR! I live in Southern California where the majority of people commute rather long distances and none that I talk to have a plan or supplies to get home in the event of a large quake closing streets and freeways.
@herculesbrofister2655 жыл бұрын
i got caught in a flash flood in my car a couple years ago. luckily i was unintentionally prepared. i grabbed my guitar, got on the roof, and used the guitar as an oar to row my car like a canoe to safety.

No toilet paper or wet wipes? Great video and kit! A large black garbage bag can also cover a broken door window: shut it into the door around the top and sides of the window. Bottom side open to allow water to drain.

Looks good, I would add a bit more cordage, and a silcock key. The pliers on your Letherman may work in place of it but the silcock definitely works and doesn't take much space.

Excellent and concise account of what‘s needed in a compact get home bag. Thank you! Just a thought I‘d like to share: it might be useful to check from time to time what you are actually carrying and where everything is located. If you are like me, I leave my bag in the car and, thankfully, haven‘t had to use it, so I do tend to forget what I‘ve packed.

Now, I don’t have much evidence to base this on. But the bag that you use in this video, I’m 90% sure comes from a little survival kit Walmart use to carry. I’m assuming this because I purchased the kit a long time ago, and I recognized the poncho, the rations, the water, and cem light. Obviously you’ve modified the kit for better tho. But a lot of those contents were found in the kit. I’ve had the bag for about 4 years now and it’s held up great, with very heavy use. I’ve sent it flying off of a truck before, doing about 50 on gravel, and it was only a little dusty.
@craze4legos4 жыл бұрын
The kit is no longer available at Walmart, but I was able to find it a while ago on amazon. If you search “PhysiciansCare First Aid 3 Day Survival Kit with Emergency Food and Water (73 Piece Kit)” on Amazon, you’ll find what I’m talking about.

Missing some items like a knife sharpener, map, cash. Also need a way to strap it on your person in case you walk long distance. Other than that, nice little bag setup
@herculesbrofister2655 жыл бұрын
he said explicitly that he has extra batteries. knife sharpener is only necessary in short periods (such as a car issue) if you don't know how to use a knife and you're hitting rocks and metal and bones.
@peachfuds5 жыл бұрын
@@herculesbrofister265 that's cool. Yeah you're a big know-it-all aren't you? Ever been in a survival situation where your knife goes dull from all the shit you put it through? Obviously not

Good bag, but doesn't have something very important. Socks and gloves (warm mechanic's gloves) and warming beanie style hat. If you're resorting to using any of the other items in the bag, these items would be necessity 1.

Great little kit. Think you got the basics well covered but I wouldn't hesitate to add more snack bars, a heavy duty contractor bag, and some wipes/TP. Maybe a little bottle of hand sanitizer too, good idea to use before dressing any wounds. Small, easily transported kits like this are the bomb. Minimal investment (for stuff you hope just sits there, never being used), doesn't steal trunk space, and has enough to get you by if you're stranded in your vehicle for a day or two. The grabber blanket was a good addition and something often left out of kits this size.
