You have a natural camera presence, great job. Hammock camping just gives you another option and is especially useful when there is uneven ground, no worries in a hammock! I have back issues and have absolutely no back pain hammock camping compared to being on the ground. I agree with you on the bug net holding the hammock sides in. My first setup was exactly the same as yours. When I ungraded I got the integrated net but one that could be removed if I wanted. Just be careful in heavy rain because if any material is sticking outside the tarp on the ends, it will soak up water and your hammock and blankets will get wet. I have a gear hammock made by Onewind that hangs under my hammock and love it. I like this company, good gear that isn't too expensive. Thanks for sharing your first hammock camp, enjoyed it! :) :)

@@jacqueline7118 I absolutely noticed that i had no back pain with the hammock also, I’m mostly always sore getting up off the ground in a tent. Im noticing most people are recommending OneWind and ill have to check them out. I definitely need to fly the larger tarp in a diamond to get full coverage and run a drip line. I appreciate your suggestions and thank you so much for checking this out.

Hey Marlo! I see you are (nearly) dominating the chair now! I expected to hear a boxing bell ring when you got it out! 😆 As luck would have it, your camp spot would be next to Dante’s 5th Circle, lol! That could get kinda creepy late at night! The chair cut out of stump was cool though! I occasionally run across chairs like that when I’m out on a trail or back in a national forest. There’s been a few times I’ve really been glad to see one! I like the idea of having a second hammock for gear. It reduces the amount of space needed and helps keep critters out of it all. I’ve always hated picking up something and finding something living in it without paying me rent! I haven’t bought a Thermacell yet. It seems the claims of how long something lasts, no matter what it is, are never accurate. The tests are probably made at the absolute lowest settings under ideal conditions. Speaking of the lack of bugs, it seems that they disappear when it gets really hot. Your MRE looked really good! I am definitely going to try some MRE’s. I’ve never had them before. I’m like you when it comes to the summer heat. I’m really looking forward to cool weather! I plan to get out in the outdoors often. I just wilt in hot weather and it does seem like it just drains the life out. Looking forward to a lot of woods time! I agree that it’s important to reconnect with nature. I, too, believe we all need it and many might find their well-being improves by spending time in the outdoors. I think you took the smelter to new heights! 🤣 I thought for a second you were going to break into that old Doors song, lol! The animal making the sound at 58:11 is a screech owl. There used to be one that lived in the woods behind the house where I grew up. You were right about the sound when you got up. That was a mourning dove, sometimes called a rain crow. The view of the mist over the bog was beautiful! I’ve always liked foggy mornings, and I’ve never been mad about finding nothing but fog and no views when getting to the top of a mountain. One thing I found out the hard way on a camping trip years ago is the temperature drops drastically right at sunrise. I didn’t know it at the time, and when I went to sleep the temperature was probably about 65°. I got up right after sunrise and bounded right out of my sleeping bag. It took about one second to wish I hadn’t!! It felt like the temperature had dropped into the 40’s! I spoke with a deer hunter sometime after that, and he said that was a temperature inversion caused right when the suns rays first hit the atmosphere. He said it makes it feel like the temperature drops twenty degrees. Lesson learned! I’m glad you’re hammock camp went so well! Even though you could have baked bread out there, it looked like a great time. Thank you for sharing! I enjoyed it very much! ⛺🌳🪓🔥🔥🔥🔥👊👍👍 BTW, since we've been talking camping here, the ads in Candy Crush have been nearly all Coleman camping gear ads for a solid week! The other ads are - you guessed it - Eat-A-Hill! 😆

Hey my friend!! I won the chair battle.. today anyway. I love this chair but sometimes we have issues, lol. That fire pit just reminded me of something out of a horror movie… people sitting in a circle around a fire… idk nevermind, 🥲 The thermacell works 100%, i love it but the claims on how long the pads last are lies. The fuel cartridge seems to last long though. It was crazy to camp in such poor air quality, humid, hot and well.. you know how awful it is. Im looking forward to a reprieve. The screech owl’s song was a bit spooky to me but I kind of liked that moment of what was that. I have noticed the temperature drop your talking about, it’s extremely noticeable too. Thats kind of funny to me that the ads in CC are camping related, lol! Always always appreciated 😅my friend and hope you’re having a great week my friend ☺️🙌🏻🍃☕️

Another great adventure!!! Thanks for bringing us along. One thing that will make your hammock more comfortable is a structural Ridgeline. There's videos on KZbin showing you how to install one on your hammock and how to set it up. I'm a full time hammock sleeper. I haven't slept in a bed in over three years. I started with the exact hammock that you have and I added a structural Ridgeline and it slept much more comfortable. The critter that you heard around the 58 minute time was a screech owl. He was serenading you! I also quit smoking by vaping. That's a great idea about the cloth over the mouth piece. What kind of cloth do you use? Does it cut the flavor down? I live in South Carolina and the heat and humidity is almost always like it was in your adventure. When we camp here in the summer, we camp by a lake so we can cool down by swimming. Thanks again for bringing us along!!

Thank you, it was definitely different than tent camping. Thank you for the ridge line tip, ill look into it. I had figured that noise to be an owl.. they make the coolest and creepiest noises. The little cloth i have over the mouthpiece of the vape is just one of those glass or phone screen wipe that usually comes with a cell phone screen protector, works and washes easily. No decrease in flavor. Thank you again for checking this out.

My favorite Marlo!! This one looked like a mostly rousing success. The sleeping quilt and porch style fly looked like a much better setup. The idea of a 2nd hammock is great (the simplest solutions...😊); would almost reduce the need for the ground cover, and ensure (insure?) dry gear if a storm hits. Roadtrippin'...kinda my thing. I haven't been further west than Colorado since I was 7, but I'd love to see the desert again (my brother lives in AZ, it gets hot, but without our "lovely" humidity). If you get out there, we'd love to see your desert adventures! 🏜 Glad you went back to basics with your beer; trying new things is great, but sometimes nothing beats coming home...(supposed to sound wise, but maybe it's dorky) Even just watching your scenery I totally feel what you mean...so peaceful and beautiful, communing with nature, hearing the birds (and the airplanes), getting away from where humanity has created their escape from the REAL real world (though I do like AC, and tacos...) Even when it's hot and humid, ya gotta have fire...my inner pyro was drooling, too! (But not too close, might put out the fire) I've heard that fire is one classification (think that's the right word) from being considered a living organism. It consumes, reproduces, expells waste (energy), it dies, it respires...I think it's missing "response to stimuli". The screaming you heard at night was, I think, a fox...their Vixens scream sounds absolutely terrifying...but then 9 times outta ten it's my guess; could be a possum or raccoon. Possibly an owl, but sounded more foxier. The doves you heard are indeed called Morning (possibly Mourning doves), one of the best sounds to hear outside. Also loved the mist...fog is one of my favorite weather conditions! I got you another book to read! 😊😅 But, I'm glad you had a successful and relaxing time, you looked so at peace and well rested next day. Nature, fire, beer, coffee, and camping with Marlo...always perfect, as was your opening song...Feelin' Alright indeed! Thank you so much for all you do, and for another epic campout! Be safe, take care, and see you on the next one!! 👍❤️😁🍃💪🫵

Hey my friend.. it was awesome to try out hammock camping and I’ll definitely give it another go with tweaks but I prefer tent camping. Ive been to Nevada a few times.. not loving the Vegas strip but what’s around it. I’ve traveled to area 51 over 3 times. Im wanting to do this road trip very badly. Maybe in a few months time ill put that together. To me, a campfire is camping and I love your analogy of a fire being alive… it is for sure. I appreciate long comments because that means thought went into it. Thank you again and have a good rest of this day and a great week ahead 🫵🏻☺️🙌🏻🔥

@@ExplorewithmeMarloC Ohhh yeah, (I'm such a dork, but a well meaning one 😊) I remember you have some Nevada videos...been watching more of your current ones, gotta scroll down more often. I did notice you have a South of the Border video; that's a cool, kitschy tourist trap. Not sure I'd be so into the Vegas strip either...it'd be cool to see for a sec, while passing through to the middle of nowhere though. I've never done hammock camping; probably be neat to try, but I feel like I'd prefer a tent (done that many times). I'm glad you appreciate my long comments, you offer so much to think about, and you're very well spoken and insightful, or introspective (well, probably both). Love your philosophy of camping and nature, so many people seem to cut themselves off from it entirely. Finding that balance between roughing it and having some comforts is something I've been thinking about for a while now. I appreciate how you're doing it. This looked like a great camp, but I do have one suggestion for safety. With whatever tarp configuration you use, try to get the entire hammock, except the suspension of course, under it. Anything exposed will wick water into the hammock. The first thing under the ends of the tarp should be a water break on the suspension. It could be a couple dangling strings tied on, a carabineer between the suspension and the hammock, or whatever. Just something to interrupt the flow of water and get it to drip to the ground instead of wicking into the hammock body. I love those hot days, they force you to slow down, appreciate each step of what you're doing, and take care of yourself. But they also lead to thunderstorms. Not a big deal with your car so close, but you seem the type to wander when you can. I find my giant 12 foot hammock to be more comfortable than my bed at home. I'm a big dude at 6'5" @ 300, so I go big with everything. But if your hammock is too long to cover with your square tarp pitched like that, you might try a diamond pitch, corner to corner on the ridgeline. Sitting in the woods watching and listening to rain is much nicer than scrambling around in the dark trying to get stuff under cover and off the ground. Good stuff, I'm looking forward to your next video ✌️

I've been hammock camping for over 12 years. I usually hang my tarp diagonally so it will cover the entire hammock just in case it rains. It's nice to have a good size hammock. You need to tie some strings for a drip line on the line before the water runs down into the hammock. I sleep in a hammock in my spare bed room. I've been doing this for the past 8 years. Looks like a great location. It takes more the one time to get use too. Just give it at least 3 to 4 times. Like anything else it takes time. You can find cheap used down under quilts on some Hammock forums.

Keep dialing it in; there is some real progress going on. Try to have the ends of the bug net under the tarp in case of rain and tie one small length of paracord to the straps near the tarp so any rain drips before it gets to the hammock. If you do any remote camping use a smaller fuel canister. Otherwise you're doing great!

Great video Marlo. If I might make a suggestion it would be to get a structural ridge line for the hammock. It will let you setup the hammock lay constantly each time (same smiley face look). Normally about 80-83% of the hammock length is what works for most people. 11ft hammock would make that ridge line about 108-110in. 13-15ft between the trees would also be about perfect for distance. That should let you set the tree protectors about eye level, possibly head level Deleon your height. That should get you near the 30 degrees on the suspension we look for. As those trees get closer or farther away the height of the tree protectors is what you want to adjust, it is the 30 degrees that you always try to keep close. That “perfect smile face” is what allows you to lay diagonally for a flat lay in your hammock. That lay will also help keep your big net off you since you will be opening up the width naturally as you lay diagonally as compared to taco style. Keep at it and have fun.
@garyflowers9447
@garyflowers9447 6 ай бұрын
I have found that using a structural ridge line and adjusting it until I get a comfortable lay makes a big difference. My most comfortable hammock has the big net attached and has spreader bars at the top which keeps the bug net farther away from you. On my hammocks with a separate bug net I like to leave the bug net on the hammock with the structural ridge line and just in clip it from the tree straps and roll the whole thing up and put it in a stuff sack. That really reduces setup time on the next camp. Find what works for you. That's what matters most. Great video !!

Your setup is quite good but your tarp is a little short to cover the ends. If you used the tarp in a diamond shape it would cover both ends nicely. Also you want to create some kind of drip ring on your straps so water running down the straps will drip off before it reaches the hammock. Also, those were Mourning Doves because they always sound like they're mourning a loved one. One of my favorite bird sounds too.

Unfortunately, I had a 2 weeks off from my job. Oh boy….. I made it all the way up to the starting point in two days. It took others 30 minutes to a 2 hours. I was out of shape for that. I swear by it. It clears a 15 foot radius and it works. Thank you for the suggestion, I’ll definitely consider it. Have a good week.

happy sunday marlo. im glad you had a succesful camp. you know im not a camping person but I enjoyed watching to see if it went well with your hammock. If i was to go camping i think i would like to be inside of a tent instead. did you scratch your truck driving in there? I think the noise you heard was a fox like someone else had mentioned but i really don't know. im looking forward to your next adventure. thank you for showing us how it went for you. stay safe dear

Hi Sue. No deep scratches on the truck at all.. surprisingly. I enjoyed this campout very much and will try it again with peoples suggestions but I think i prefer a tent as well. Thank you for checking this out my friend ☺️

I can’t sleep in a hammock because I’m a side sleeper. They are comfortable to lay in for a small amount of time but not for a long rest. I’ll stick to tents and tarps.

I do bring a second hammock for storage. However, I've found it best to set it up separately from the one I'm sleeping in. I've done it underneath and I'm too lazy for that. Let me explain. Lol When you put your storage hammock underneath your sleep system, you must by necessity hang your hammock higher. That makes it a bit more treacherous to get out of the hammock. Getting your feet tangled in the lower hammock while getting up half asleep can land you on your face rather quickly. Ask me how I know! Lol. Can it be done safely? Yes. However, it takes more thought getting in and out and negates some of your ability to use your hammock as a seat. So, like I said, I'm just lazy and maybe a little too clumsy. 😂

Definitely gotta consider the hammock tangle with a double hammock. I’d be the person who gets tangled and stuck 🙃

This vid has 2 things I hate...hammocks & carrots! 😂 I have 2 different hammock setups and hate them both. I will admit, I am a side sleeper. Give me a tent and sleeping pad anytime over a hammock.

Cool camp, thought of a hammock system, too chicken so far. lol Are you a LEO? An idea for a giveaway, have subs an email a pic of their fave campsites. 2 pics to enter, you choose the winner! lol My fave dehydrated meal is the Mount House Beef Stroganoff. My fave part of the vids is the Buzz light beer segment by the fire. lol Mayb pool noodl at each end would openup the bug net? Just string some cord through about an 18"-24" piece of pool noodle with a D ring in the noodle and a loop of cord at both ends with the D ring to keep them attached to the hammock ends?

yeah... one ridge line is the way to go many years ago in a galaxy far far away... I had a gear net hammock, I think they still make them don't know what happened to it... or get you one of those cheap Walmart hammocks for gear I use one for me, the double size, more fabric & higher weight rating I like a good Mexican beer, Dos XX or Corona I also like Guinness but lately it's gotten too sweet

Your hair looks amazing! Great setup, that first wood chop nearly made me wet meself, and why wouldn't you follow the directions on a expesive food item (yeah you lucked out on the discout) just to see how the other half lives? Is the shirt for police, hokey or, derby? As far as vaping, it helped me quit because I couldn't find a good flavor (You do you). Connect with nature, light a fire...Might not translate well. Anyway, proud you knocked this one outand happy you shared it. AND your hair is still amazing when you wake up!?

you should try wearing lighter clothes instead of the dark colors that will keep you cooler.. just curious why you started all fire in a fresh spot rather than where the campfire pit was? i have enjoyed watching your videos please keep them coming.. just curious do you have any friends or family who have any interest in camping with you or do you strictly enjoy camping alone? is there a reason you didn't put on a swimsuit and go jump in that lake and cool off?
@ExplorewithmeMarloC

@@DamianRheaume-kz8sf hello.. I should dress more accordingly to the weather but Ive always been partial to black clothes my whole life. I didn’t want to use that huge firepit and had permission to put my fire anywhere I wanted. I cleared a spot and put down a metal plate as to not scar the ground and take my word, i never leave a trace or evidence i was ever there. I do have friends that are into camping and this week ill be camping out with another channel on their very first camp so that will be fun but i like to camp alone.. id gladly camp with other people or other channels if they have their own tent, gear and supplies. I wasn’t here for a swim but strictly for the hammock camp. Maybe I should of though, it was brutally hot. Thank you for checking this out and hope that addressed your questions. Have a good week.
