Great review. I have the Evolution S17, and love the locking blade. They do make the Evolution Grip 18 and Evolution Wood 17 (with wood scales) that don't have the locking blade at the Canadian Victorinox website. My first Swiss Army knife is a Victorinox Recruit that I still have. Gave it a good cleaning and oiling and everything works like new, with that nice blade closing snap. Love the Victorinox quality.

You can buy that model with or without the lock. Both US and abroad, just get the one without the, “s” in front of the number.

My first SAK was a Spartan if I remember correctly. I came to like the Alox Soldiers, especially the older ones with the thicker blade and tool stock the most. I find the fieldmaster is a useful model too. SakWiki can be useful to find out info on Swiss Army Knives. Everywhere I see stock of the S17 here in Aus. has the lock.

Yeah, I have an alox Pioneer X as well and I like how its just a wee bit beefier than the standard SAKs. I plan to get an alox Farmer X soon. I did some research after posting this video and it does appear like the EvoGrip comes in both locking and non-locking versions...

If the model number has an “S” as a prefix, it has a blade lock (S stands for secure). So there is an Evogrip 18 and the Evogrip S18. These came from the original Wenger lines which were incorporated into Victorinox.

The hiker was my first and still only swiss army knife. I'm looking at either an alox or evo grip for next one.

The Hiker is a great model, that was the first knife I gave my young lad for his 10th birthday. My other son has the Camper model. You can't go wrong with any Victorinox model, really...

In the UK you can buy knifes with a locking blade but you can't carry them as they are outright illegal to carry but you can keep it in your collection at home

Have a Ranger Grip but not an Evo Grip. Will have to look into them though I've been perfectly happy with a Farmer or old pattern Victorinox German Army knife for a few years now with the medium Victorinox knives.

I have this as my second knife, does everything that I need as a back knife. I use it for the jobs I don't want my Whitby to do. I've found this SAK to be a great little knife that suits my needs, and only nearly cut my thumb off once with it, it's sharp! 😅

Thanks for watching and for sharing about your experience. Yes, Victorinox knives come sharp out of the box; they'll bite you if you're not careful. Take care and Cheers!

How good is this knife at fitting in the coin/5th pocket of jeans?
@singingtoad Жыл бұрын
I wouldn't recommend it as a proper 5th-pocket knife; being a 4-layer SAK it's rather thick and chonky. Thanks for watching, take care and Cheers!

The Victorinox scissors cut better, but I've always had problems with spring wear and alignment. The wenger designs are made for use!
@singingtoad2 жыл бұрын
So far, the only spring failure I've ever had on any of my Victorinox scissors has been on my SD classic. But, to be fair the little keychain knife saw a lot more wear and tear than any of my other SAK's combined...

I've never had any failures, but I gather you can purchase springs separately.

Great video, thanks. I like the locking blade on my EvoGrip s557 SAK. This knife comes with or without a lock. The knives with the s have locks. Like s17 or s557. But no s no lock like Evolution 17 does not. Victorinox make a good knife for kids that locks and has saw and the tip of the locking blade is rounded to prevent accidental stabbing.

That's how It was in the UK back in the 1970s before all the pocket knife regulations a 7 or 8 year or old could walk into a corner shop and buy a cheap pocket knife that typically sold from 50 pence to 2 pound 50 depending on the model lock knifes can still be got it the UK but you have to have a legal reason for carrying one and that reason can be challenged by Police and the courts if it goes that far because sometimes the people who implement the law don't understand it or simply interpret it differently
