That button is the programming switch, as seen on some older macs. It was kept until the Imac. It sends an interrupt to the CPU and halts normal operation.

The reason the tangerine imac g3 beeped is because the button was stuck. If you hold down the power button for a while on powerpc macs it goes into open firmware mode

When it was at his house still, it was buried in a bunch of junk in the porch. The way I got it home was by pulling it around in a wagon. (I hope nobody saw me doing that) When it finally got to my house, it was covered in dirt, dust bunnies, and, wood?!?!? And also, for some reason, (Actually, I think I know why) there was a drip of Dr. Thunder on the screen. (He drinks a lot of Dr. Thunder.) But now it's clean and I can use it.
