I had a 2 Uggies as a kid in the early 80's, both wore blue aprons. Fast forward to the late 90's and I found my old Star Wars figures in my attic. One Ugnaught was blue and the other had turned a purple-magenta color.

So, while watching your video, I checked my personal collection. I have a blue Uggy MOC 41 back unpunched ESB & a Blue MOC 65 back RotJ. And one of each, blue & purple, in my loose collection. I've had them so long I never thought about the question if they did or didn't exist. Really had me thinking though. Very exciting video for sure Joey. Here is my collector experience 2 cents on the issue. When I was a child the only ugnaugt I ever saw was a blue one. Then when I got into collecting and regaining my childhood in the early 90s I heard of the purple one. And that one was commanding a higher price at that time. It definitely is not fading. It is 2 separate colors.

See I have heard the same thing but different ways. Some people told me that the purples were more expensive than the blue, vice versa. That’s why I was SO confused on this one. Mostly I’ve heard what you heard, that the purple was more valuable. Thanks for watching turd, and if I ever get a good answer, I’ll let you know. For now, it’s still a mystery to me lol.

That is cool!! I’m glad you found your blue 👍 I have perfect loose blue and purple examples proudly displayed. I also have an AFA graded obviously blue smock as well. They do exist! AFA won’t grade blue or purple anymore. (They used to) CAS will as far as I know.

I have an AFA 80+ grade on him. Which is kinda difficult considering the strings in the back come undone and fray. Have you considered collecting the Ewoks and Droids lines when you are completed with this endeavor? They are super cool and starting to get scarce.

Maybe I’ll do a run of those in the future and to be honest, I didn’t even know those toy lines existed unit I started doing research on my run! But I do think they look cool, and I finally watched both cartoon series recently :). And that great you got an 80+, that’s what I hope to get on figures I send in. If I score higher, great, but always hoping to get 80s at least.

Just discovered this channel and enjoying it so far. Watching this episode i took a look at my ugnaughts, as I collected both blue and purple a few years ago and are in my display case. The blue one has turned purple!! 😫 Btw I only ever remember seeing them in blue smocks as a kid

I am a new subscriber. This was an interesting journey to watch. I went back to my old carrying case from 1980 and found my Ugnaut from when I was a kid. He definitely has a purple smock. I really did know there were other color variations. Nice video man!

In all Kenner photography (cardbacks, etc) it only shows blue. Also I have never seen any Kenner reference material that mentions a purple smock variant. So yes, a purple smock is discoloration. Collect it if you want, but it's no different than yellow limb stormtroopers.

Perhaps you are right. I did find the purple examples in some photos in card back examples from the Jedi Archives, but it wasn’t from the 80s, so I can’t argue with your logic. Personally I thought it was an interesting “variant” so i collected it. And I believe strongly in your statement “collect if you want”. And I think it’s up to the individual collector to decide what they want in their collection. So the debate goes on. Thanks for watching Andy and your interesting comment. I really do think it’s a color fade as well, but I still wanted to collect it. And 20 years from now, I might have two purple ugnaughts in my case from it fading haha. MTFBWY

I am also in Australia and have one Ugnaught in my collection and my memory of it was that it was blue. I pulled it out of storage just now for the first time in 8-10 years and it is 100% purple. I strongly feel like this material oxidises from blue to purple (much like the white plastic yellows) probably from excessive play/handling.

I've got an old Star Wars figures book by Stephen Sansweet. He says there are three versions. The blue smock, the purple one and surprisingly a green one.

I really think that they do. I believe that all blue smocks will eventually turn purple, but I will try to keep the blue one out of direct sunlight, but 20 years from now, I just might have two purple smock ugnaughts haha. Thanks for watching DMR, and may the force be with you!
