Respectfully I really hope you're way off with this one. The Xbox's mandatory Kinect was already creepy enough; a system that actively records and monitors your entire room with facial recognition and monitors where you go and who you meet via your phone sounds like a nightmare

That's exactly why it's realistic; companies are all on in creepy shit like this. And consumers kinda are too. If you have any sort of Google Home/Alexa device, that is constantly recording audio of your home. It has to be, otherwise it couldn't respond when you say the devices verbal cues.

Every kid has smartphones now. There's no longer any moral panic about kids sharing videos online, and it is the most common thing in the world now. Plus, Nintendo wants to appeal to everyone, not just kids and families. So, trying to appeal to the young adult, social media type would help them in that endeavour.

As someone who worked in AR, there's a lot of regulation surrounding the biometric data of minors that would highly dissuade Nintendo from most, if not all of the face recognition on the console. Biometric data legislation literally killed a finished feature on one of the projects I worked on.

I think Nintendo is just going to give us the barebones when it comes to console features now. Built-in apps leave too many entry points for hacks, and Nintendo would want to prevent that as much as possible. Nintendo has had so much time to give us new features within its OS, but they haven’t, and they don’t want to.

He had some great ideas I somehow hadn’t considered, that’s where the positives of this video ended. Once again Arlo didn’t understand console performance. He always acts like the Switch is X360 and PS3 equivalent and the upcoming system will go up a generation and match the PS4 and X1. The Wii U was Nintendo’s PS3 and X360, it got ports from them. Arlo must’ve played Pikmin 3 to death, I thought the upgraded visuals in Pikmin 4 would hammer in the fact that the Switch has more power than he believes. It approximates the original X1, Nintendo has been doing intergenerational consoles and it means intergenerational technology. Microsoft forces developers to support the Xbox Series S, and by coincidence (or Microsoft was planning something) it contains internals that would suit a handheld. The next Nintendo console will either match it or be a little stronger. Arlo also omits the patents that could very well be for the new system and they’re very kooky. So it likely won’t be just a Switch 2. Lastly Arlo could’ve mentioned there’s a high chance it will have DLSS 2 and FSR 3. These errors have made me lose a little respect for him.

These features definitely intrigue me, but they also feel very Wii U-esque and I find that concerning. Like the Wii U, these Arlo predictions work as concepts but may not translate well into actual regular use in reality. The next console cannot take away from what matters in any console: THE GAMES. Beefing up the next system's graphical power will be fundamental to remain competitive, but any bells and whistles thats added needs to be fully realized before launch. It should all enhance the core gaming experience instead of taking away from it *cought Wii U. Gamers don't buy consoles just for the console itself, the games are core.

The PlayStation has this problem every few generations, and it's becoming especially problematic now when so many things _are_ being cross-released; the 3 sold much worse (comparatively) to the 2 and the 5 is not selling as fast as expected/compared to previous generations. It's a diminishing problem. Not to mention that Nintendo has that problem with _every_ sequel console where it doesn't sell anywhere near as well as the original. It's a plan that's doomed to fail.

I think it was the company president who said back before/around the Switch launch that digital purchases would be tied to the new Nintendo accounts for the future - I’d like to imagine we’ll be able to have Pikmin run all our little files over but I also know Nintendo likes their money and can’t imagine it being completely free. This is an idea that literally could’ve been done on the Switch, but god I want an eshop rework • You can give recommendation (thumbs up, thumbs down) marks for games to people on your friend’s list • You can pay for games on other people’s wishlists as a gift • Cash out a game on your eshop for maybe 25-50% back in credit For I think is reasonable and desirable for a Switch 2 outside of the boring answer of “make it better”: • Permit recording / streaming clip capture for people with special licenses or programs in a deluxe online pass (for tiktok or youtube shorts emphasis) • I think there might be some games to connect together where you play from your phone like a bonus controller or hub • Though I like a Miitomo like interface for interaction, there SHOULD NOT be private messaging. I can easily see creeps and scandals being uncool there. I adore the camera idea. Forget Vtubers. Become a Miituber

I liked the steps feature on 3DS so much. Even when i thought that i won't have time to play I would still take console with me because of it and then I would find at least 10-20 minutes to play. Wish it was implemented into the Switch itself, but the Phone App is a good way too, I just think it's a nice addition for any portable gaming device. As for coins I rarely used them myself, only for revives in SMT IV, but I think they can just make it so now you earn platinum coins to spend on avatars and maybe even themes...

Three things I want to point out… 1. 64GB probably won’t be enough to fit even one game next generation considering that even with DLSS, 4K textures will need to be available with the game download. 2. $350 is already what the Switch OLED costs, & all signs indicate that a price drop likely isn’t happening. DLSS isn't rumored it was fully leaked during the NVIDIA data breach. It's pretty much confirmed unless nintendo decides to change their mind due to the cyber attack but I highly doubt since it will allow them to compete with current gen even better

I appreciate the ideas in this video and the extremely adorable illustrations. I could maybe...MAYBE...see an Iwata, Wii U/3DS, Miiverse era Nintendo doing some of that AR, social media, fishbowl stuff talked about in this vid... Not Switch-era Nintendo, though. Besides the other risks to children in social media people have pointed out...remember that the current Switch doesn't even have themes or a sensible folder system. They are all about cheap, low budget, minimal design when it comes to UI. I dont think thats going to change any time soon considering how successful the Switch has been. So, can't agree with the central conceit of this vid, but I do at least agree with the start of it. I think a more powerful Switch 2 is about all we are going to get...and thats probably enough to have it sell like hotcake - especially if the launch titles are heavy hitters. It doesn't really need a spin, and I don't expect one, even from the gimmick-loving Nintendo.

The return of system menu charm and StreetPass are basically the two biggest things I wish we could see make a return with future systems, so I love this concept, even if charging a subscription to use many of the new features sounds a bit too realistic for my liking. I'm not convinced we'll be so lucky as to get everything outlined in this video, but I do at least suspect we'll see the return of the microphone and quite possibly the cameras with the next system after their surprising absence on the Switch (if we're not counting the IR camera, of course).

Fortunately the memory cost has gone low enough (and more importantly, the specs of games will grow large enough) where 128GB feels like the absolute floor of storage. They might try a double stack with two storage profiles (say, 128/256 or 256/512), but my latest pendrive was north of €20 for 256GB - and I'm sure the Micro SD cards are also in that similar ballpark.

The idea of a rear facing camera with an emphasis on AR and being able to make characters jump around your actual IRL surroundings REALLY makes me imagine applications with, like, Pikmin and _Chibi Robo-_ imagine algorithms in Pikmin 5 or a new Chibi Robo game that can take your surroundings, use image recognition to pick up on shapes or objects, and use them to transform the space into a _prodedurally generated area_ to play through.

I never understood people saying making the dock be a map/extra screen because.... its usually to far away to see it.(most people dont sit right next to their tv). I love the fish tank/ clock idea way more. have it be like miiverse/ tomodachi life with characters just about their day, or a nintendo esq clock. i can see it just displaying different game backgrounds (with the wallpaper from the Nintendo website). Hoping that the simplicity of the Switch menus gets added ✨features✨like maybe menu music, themes, customization for everyone (what shows in the menu, controller options, accessibility options). I think these are pretty great ideas for the most part. There are some details I'm not really on board with... but whatever, the system, whatever it does will likely not be perfect. I know people have safety concerns with this idea, but it wouldn't take major innovations to reasonably protect people. With the smartphone aspect, it can put parental controls to the App which can have options of mirroring conversations or video messages sent privately to parent accounts, as well as giving them more control into putting the Switch to a smart sleep. (Maybe something that can save a cloud state of what the player is doing, while turning off the screen. It can disconnect the player safely from online while letting devs know not to punish the account. It might be able to allow for devs to create a "Warm Up" mode that allows players to either see what their emergency cloud save state was doing just before, or even take you to a brief practice mode to get you back up to snuff. As well as it can also have typical stuff such as give reminders of when playtime is going to end). You also could offer some protection by limited features based on age, parental controls, and use of proximity to determine which friends you have met in person, vs. only online. I like these ideas, I like the social aspect. I think some parts... could use adjusting. It would be smart of Nintendo to make their app work as it could, but it also probably should have smartwatch and tablet compatibility too. It also should probably be more tied to your Nintendo account over any one app, and have any existing Nintendo Apps and Mobile Games have compatibility through the App in ways that also could share data (through server side). Change the Nintendo Account to be something more akin to a Google account (but obviously for Nintendo related stuff). I think I understand why you wanted to put out different, even more tiers of Nintendo Online, but I think that is confusing. There should be a free tier, that is the basic Nintendo Account access, it can offer basic features as you stated, existing features like access to the Nintendo eShop and the ability to download demos. It would give you, as you stated, some access to reworked nintendo ideas like Friend and social management: the ability to see your friend's Nintendo Page (where you can do things like compare achievements, see "memories" of achievements, or short clips of their gameplay for how they got it or when they got it, see their latest media post, and some linked social media accounts as well as some linked posts with parental permission. Another feature is to see your chat conversations and group conversations. You can also see your friend feed of shared content from updates from friends as well as updates from those you follow, and messages from Nintendo. I also imagine like WiiU, Nintendo could create pages for Topics and Games that players can engage with under moderation, I also imagine if you have paid Nintendo accounts, one feature you get is the ability to create "Club" pages, which are like the Nintendo Topics or Games, but with the option to be friend only or public. I think outside that, you can have the Basic paid, which gives you the online gameplay action, you get a "demo" of the virtual console which has GB and NES games, as well as some community games. (like tetris 99 for example). It also allows for customizing your own page with different themes and stickers, basic access to use Stickers in chat, sending the expression clips and videos, then any sort of cloud gaming features (outside the one cloud save state), and maybe even the ability to post and share on Nintendo community pages (User Club pages are open to anyone, but under control options of the creator or super users. Clubs can also be used to designate teams in some multiplayer games and update team based leaderboards). The features you spoke of like additional sets of stickers, filters, and Home Screen buddies, etc. can be purchased as micro transactions and coin exchanges, offering most that can be bought with engagement coins, with some premium stuff or sets being something like a $5 purchase (also the ability to purchase the premium gold coin, but otherwise gain through registering games or download purchases). Then there can be the Premium paid which would give you access to NES, SNES, GB, GBA, N64, Genesis, Megadrive, Game Gear, Saturn, and eventually GCN, Wii, DS, 3DS, and Dreamcast games. It also can get some exclusive community games (Such as something like Phantasy Star Online 2 or Dragon Quest X International, maybe a Division or Watch Dogs Online game) and it can give you included dlc content. I also imagine it can also feature some bonuses with disconnected Nintendo Apps and Games, like bonus content for Pokemon Unite, maybe Pokemon Home content, or Pocket Camp monthly goodies... maybe even features instead like the ability to use your amiibo with the mobile games. The basic and the Premium would just have a price increase over paying for a 3rd social-only tier, but benefits for both would give you incentive to just buy the services even if you don't have a switch 2 yet. (I also imagine that some of the features can work on the basic Switch) Still, you know... I want those innovative new features. I think it can be done through less obtrusive ways. I think fixing the drift on the joycons is a must, but if we are going to have to get new controllers to take advantage of some of these new switch 2 features, it might as well have, for example, the analog-click like feature of the gamecube brought back for feature parody sake. I also like the idea of scrollable shoulders, I think they should try that, and maybe a third feature of some kind of controller tracking, maybe even some kind of grip button or detection. I think a sensor bar of the Wii can be brought back and adjusted for a more modern take. It can instead be used as a wireless receiver that gets video data from the dock and console, and display that on the TV. Meanwhile it's placement in front of the TV can be used to tell the direction forwards for the player and the controller vs. the second screen, helping to correct the gyroscopes in real time. It would maybe feature a couple USB ports as well, that you can use to plug in accessories that you would have normally plugged into the dock in front of your tv. The other part of it is a smarter Dock, you can install a HD simply into it like a game cart, expanding your storage, it is uncovered allowing you to see the screen as well as has some adjustibility for the viewing angle. It also houses a storage place for a future pen accessory. Because it transmits wirelessly very quickly, you can set the dock where ever you want so you don't have to squint to see the screen if you sit far from your tv. You also can interact with it by pointing the controller at it and using it like a pointer controller. Bigger than that, it's built for families and it can connect to other switches and docks for wireless lan-like play, library sharing through family connected accounts, and save sharing. You can also connect the dock to the internet and allow your system to connect to the saved files, ongoing games, and such through a stable or fast enough WiFi connection while the Switch is undocked. An extra feature that I'd love, but also could be dropped on the engineering floor would be a sister graphics card good for upscaling or enhancing the visuals for TVs. Some of this would have to be done with the Switch's memory, I say bump it up to 256GB and make 128-192GB inaccessible to gamers, but instead used for game streaming and OS management, similarly the switch might have some additional ram for the OS. Both of these features would also be used to bring back Download Play multiplayer. locally, and also online through a paid NSO membership. This way it can do the AR stuff through the screen, it can do it through your phone, and it can do it through some VR goggles if they ever eventually decide to make them. Console wouldn't be too different to not be completely backwards compatible, but still offer new stuff while still working to be something that is integrated in your everyday life.

A great video, and I hope you are doing well. Some of the features I agree with that could happen and others I think will not happen, due to how crazy cautious Nintendo is. There are a few additions I would like to add to your predictions. 1) The ZL and ZR buttons on the Joy-Cons will be analogue triggers with a digital button underneath. The same as how the Gamecube had its L and R buttons. However with a little sliding switch on the back of the Joy-Con you can lock the analogue part and make them full digital buttons. This is probably a necessity if you want Gamecube games on the NSO app. 2) Nintendo figures out how to do the auto calibration for the Joy-Con motion sensors, like the Wii had for its gyro sensor add-on. Giving a much needed quality of life upgrade for the games that use motion-controls. 3) The MIG Flash cart has shaken Nintendo that much, that they have changed the size and format of the physical cart. This makes the Switch 2 backwards compatible with only digital games. For the physical games you sadly still require the original Switch. 4) The new Switch comes in 2 SKUs. One SKU that is digital only and is cheaper. The other SKU will still accept physical media.

Love the ideas, however I think there's a big issue you forgot to consider. Nintendo specifically refused to add a browser to Switch originally to attempt to prevent hacking. Adding the ability for a mobile app to connect over bluetooth and send data from another device opens a MASSIVE security hole. Even though I think they should do this, I really doubt Nintendo will. I just see it as something Nintendo would never do. I hope I'm wrong though.

Streetpass on your phone is actually a really clever idea, and is likely to get more use than with the 3DS, because everyone carries a phone with them when they go out. I had this idea of streaming your system onto the TV without using the dock, so you could use the touch screen when playing on the TV at the cost of weaker visuals. It would be like playing on the Wii U, only more user friendly. Plus the new JoyCon would come with haptic feedback, analog triggers and infrared sensors, which can be used with the camera or sensor bar for pointer controls. All these features would make it the ideal platform for backwards compatibility for GCN, Wii, Wii U, DS and 3DS games.

Who has their dock close enough to see the screen while they play? I primarily play PS5 on my iPad and keep the screen covered because it’s distracting seeing the motion on the screen and the TV. I can’t imagine having to look down for important information on the dock while playing a game. It was different on DS when the screens are next to each other, but with a Switch the dock could be in a different part of the room from the TV you play on.

I want to play DS games on it, too. Like, okay, we have NES, SNES, N64, GB, and GBA emulators on Switch. There are more Wii U ports on this console than strands of hair on my head. And if you want to play a Wii game... just get your Wii out of the attic, don't act like you DON'T own a Wii, silly. But then there's GCN and [3]DS titles. 99% of them have been stuck on their home consoles ever since day 1. Yeah, the Wii U had a DS emulator, but it didn't even have Pokémon titles on it, so that automatically barely counts. I want to play NewSMB2, Samus Returns, Kirby Planet Robobot, Hey Pikmin!(ironically, let's not kid ourselves), and so many other titles that are stuck on that system. I'm actually pissed that we don't have a DS emulator on Switch considering that thing is going to be 20 years old only in a few new moons. Like, it's OLD now. It's no longer just a pre-modern console; it's a legacy console now, like the GameCube.

I feel like some of these are a long stretch but i actually really love the concept for stuff appearing on a docked Switch! It could be dynamic with what it shows and not be extremely bright thanks to OLED screens

Open face dock is a really good call! They are going to want to bring DS games and Wii U features to a next generation Switch at some point so having a dock or camera accessory with a screen that connects to the home console using WiFi direct over the new 6 GHz band used by WiFi 6e and WiFi 7 for minimal interference would be brilliant. I can almost imagine something like the Google nest tablet where the dock also has built in speakers and it can act as your primary alarm clock.

I'm...surprised at how much you nailed the Nintendo way of thinking. What you described is something I could totally see happening and very realistic. I think the "streamer cam" bit is a great idea and it's one of the things I wish the current Switch video capture had, though more specifically a microphone to record you. PlayStation (and presumably Xbox) does this and on PS5, there's a mic built into the controller which makes that process way easier to do. I would be okay without the webcam aspect of it, but I can see moments where that would be fun to have. Hopefully if they were to add something like that, it wouldn't be superimposed on the video and able to be toggled on and off (both video feed and mic audio).

The music streaming idea is BRILLIANT. Especially if they were to (and I doubt this) allow the composers to get revenue and credit from it.

What Nintendo is actually doing is including Sound Test modes in a lot of their games, now. You can listen to the entire soundtrack of Super Mario RPG from the main menu.

It's an 8" screen - or close, it's a 7.81", but yeah, it'll be a bit larger. No camera though

Arlo, your creativity is UNMATCHED. You're literally one of the best creators I'm subbed to, and this video just confirms it. I'm so impressed! The revival of StreetPass would be especially wonderful if it came true, and the sort of second screen with the console itself has a lot of potential. You're just bursting with creativity and I can tell you've been thinking about the Switch 2 for so long. 😂

Based on Nintendos previous consoles, it is very likely they will incorporate a camera of some sort. Wii -> Wii U had a camera DS -> DSi/3DS had a camera I think a front facing camera is very likely. There is so much potential with the dock.
