On my way to Mosquitocon 2022 in Wayne NJ, I stopped by Ridgefield, NJ to visit an older style hobby shop that many of us grew up with. Enjoy the video🙂!

I remember modeling with my Dad as a kid. I remember going to hobby stores with him. I’m glad to see the joy you take in the hobby.

Glad to hear the back story Sean. My father was not a scale modeler but I grew to enjoy the hobby.🙂

One of my favorite hobby shops. I am a frequent customer. Whenever I stop in I never fail to leave with a few vintage treasures and/or new stuff. Highly recommended!

@David Chin I've been in the basement several times and I'm always thrilled to pick through old rarities, and I always depart with a boxful.

Hi David, thanks for the tour. This is a great old time hobby store, to bad they are disappearing. I haven't been in a store like that in over 20 years. They sure have a bunch of great kits. Thanks for sharing. Jeff
@davidchin3502 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching Jeff. There is still more kits in the basement of the shop that I was not able to access since the owner was also at Mosquitocon.

Fantastic! It's like Aladdin's cave. 😁 I spent days in my youth in places like that. All gone now, sadly. Model shows are the nearest I get now to a good browse, and they've been greatly reduced of late! 🙄 I enjoyed that, David. Cheers. 😁👍

Very cool. It’s nice to see shops like that, especially with the etail trade killing everything off. I’m going to have to track that store down to ask them about a kit I saw during your virtual tour. Thanks!

Thanks David, you can call or email Jim regarding his kits. He was also at Mosquitocon so I could not access his stash in the basement of his store.

Ridgefield Hobbies reminds me of the old Ed Shock's Toy and Hobby stores that were once opened in Indianapolis. Ridgefield is more extensive but eclectic just like Shock's.
@davidchin3502 жыл бұрын
Yes sir.I don't remember if they had Guillows balsa wood gliders and Gayla kites to round out the hobby shop 🙂
@mightylonesome94262 жыл бұрын
@@davidchin350 They did have the balsa wood aircraft kits. Also the balsa race car kits. The aircraft kits were pretty sophisticated and required tremendous patience. He had a wide variety of DYI doll houses as well. Shock's carried Corgi, Lesney, and Dinky toys too, plus a huge assortment of plastic kits.

@@jamiegsscalemodelgarage3823 I used to have a 1983 Yamaha Midnight Maxim XJ750MK. It was black and gold and I dressed it like a touring bike. Full clear windscreen, full KG backrest, crankcase guards, highway pegs, aftermarket Lockhart oil cooler and I had soft detachable saddle bags. I ended up selling it when I got married since I ended up riding it less and less.☹
