Russian naval songs are so fire and then you look at their actual surface fleet, which consists of three missile cruisers laid down in 1968, a half-sinking carrier they forgot to scrub the Soviet iconography off of, and a trash barge with a T-62 parked on it

Soviet and Russian fleet is great. However, it was never designed to rival American fleet in terms of raw power. Russia has no need for giant fleet, pre WW2 and after they designed a defensive fleet that could stop or at least delay a naval invasion. Russia has great land and air army.

Its a defense oriented navy. For example, they don't need carriers for power projection but to defend their floating missile batteries. Its all about being able to slug a missile somewhere. Their ace in the hole are their subs. They hide under the ice, using it to mask themselves then spam SLBMs when the order is given.
