In Australia we don't have access to a lot of art brands (importing to Australia sucks I guess), and so our art stores really only stock Winsor & Newton. I really do wanna try experiment and review different brands of all sorts of materials, so I'd love to hear what suggestions you guys have for companies for me to try out! What do you guys use or recommend?

7:48 'masking fluid destroys brushes' I found that if you coat your brush in washing up liquid, lightly wipe it off on a tissue and then use in the masking fluid it doesn't destroy the brush - I still wouldn't recommend doing this with a super expensive brush but I've managed to save one of my favourite brushes using this technique
@kelogsloops5 жыл бұрын
Oooh, washing liquid, I haven't tried that! I do something similar, but I use brush soap. It works most of the time, but it's still destroyed a few brushes. Gonna keep experimenting until I find the perfect solution to masking fluid
@glencoconut5 жыл бұрын
@@kelogsloops I've only recently started using masking fluid in my work but the washing liquid hasn't failed me yet :) It's a shame it destroys brushes though because it's really useful - I remember the first time I used it I was super excited but I unknowingly destroyed a brush. tragic.

Glen Coco you could use those cheap silicone/rubber brushes from red dot.
@notimportant39325 жыл бұрын
i use it a lot and honestly i just buy a shitty pack at walmart? Washing liquid works but if your like me (i can easily forget to wash the brush asap and therefore it drys/permeates the brush) it's nice to just have some shitty brushes for that. Just dip in water and use it til it croaks. But masking fluid can be so fun and help you do so many things!

It's probably a bit late for you to see this but I recommend using silicon brushes for masking fluid. You can normally find them in the clay/modelling section. You can normally find them in all shapes and sizes including really small so you can get those detailed areas. They're also super easy to clean as you can just peel the masking fluid of.

OMG it’s so nice to see a video from you again! I hope you’ve been doing well. Yeah Arches is really good! I’m glad the pads are more affordable to get than the blocks because I love using it for my illustrations. I never tried Trekell before, I should try it sometime and compare them to my Princeton brushes. I use mostly Davinci paints because I got them at a clearance sale but I really do love Daniel Smiths. I have some W&N paints but they are more expensive (mostly the pro paints) than other brands I get here in Canada. Honestly love masking fluid because I’m not as good with doing negative space yet. Gold leaf looks so pretty I hope I can use it one day. Thank you for this video and I hope you upload more soon!

Oh, those supplies look very yummy! I mainly use Schmincke and Hahnemuehle because they have been in my life since childhood but I have been branching out lately and bought various different brands (mainly DS Primatek) to try and they all have their strong points and unique properties, as you said. While searching for masking fluids on Amazon I recently stumbled upon masking fluid brushes and ordered them right away! I just received them so I can report that these 3 different sized brushes contain white semi opaque hairs so they are not those silicone shapers. I am not sure what they are made of or if was just clever marketing by "frisk", the UK masking fluid manufacturer. They do clog up if the fluid gets sticky in there but you can get it out again. Perhaps the hairs are not quite as fine as most other brushes. Anyhow, they are not expensive so well worth a try.

Using salt water as you paint can help to soften harsh edges caused by water that seems to settle on top and not seep in, for anyone struggling through using a paper like that. Of course, it effects the paint in other blending ways as well.
