So some tips for the flytrap because most people kill them caring for them incorrectly, but once you know the basics you’re good to go! When you first buy a flytrap from a big box store like that, the plant is going to need a bit of TLC before it will start to thrive, because they’re not cared for properly when they’re being sold in stores. At this time of year, it may also be dormant so don’t be too worried if you don’t see much growth until spring. Only water with distilled water, rain water or RO water, never use tap or spring, minerals will kill it. It’s a bog plant, so it will need to sit in a tray with about 1 inch of distilled water at all times and make sure the pot it’s in has drainage holes so it can suck up the water. If you’re going to repot at some point, make sure to ONLY use either 100% peat, 100% sphagnum moss and 100% perlite, usually 50/50 peat and perlite. No miracle grow brand or anything like that, no normal potting soil, flytraps do not like fertilizers (unless specialized for carnivorous plants) so anything added to the soil mixture will hurt the plant. Place in a spot where the plant can get full sunlight for at least a couple hours a day, in winter that’s less important but in spring and summer giving it full sun outside is what will give you that bright red on the traps, which is a sign of a healthy thriving flytrap. Don’t worry about feeding it bugs, it will catch what it needs on its own and still gets energy via photosynthesis like other plants, so as long as it has sunlight it doesn’t need bugs. Good luck!
