@@briankavanagh7191 gotta start making those hard film decisions now. Sometimes you want a flat picture, sometimes a deep picture. Decisions, decisions. The close ups and dialogue are great with the high depth, but yea, gotta cut it up with some nice flat pictures of the area here and there.

The die-back was very serendipitous, almost as if the tree is styling itself! It has given the tree a really nice flow, I like it. The blurry background really does isolate the subject, while looking nice and cinematic almost.

The dieback tendency creates quite a challenge. The tree is in a sense imposing it’s own ‘styling ‘, which lessens the growers ability to determine the shaping of the tree. ~ A tree that can teach detachment is quite special!

The video looks very cinematic! Is tat the Canon R? Or maybe a new lens with lower F stop than you usually use? Also, the tree position at 6:58 - 7:07 looks amazing as a front to me! I think the design is much better now.
@TheBonsaiZone
@TheBonsaiZone 5 жыл бұрын
Yes this is made with the Canon R! I used an old lens that I got at a garage sale, the old plastic Canon 50mm F 1.8. I paid 20 dollars for a camera that didn't work, and the lens. I need an ND filter to get my shutter speed correct. I'll add that to my list. The tree does look really good from that angle, and I think the roots also look better in that view. It may all change as the tree grows this summer, as they can really grow and thicken up quickly if you let them. Thanks LA!

Hi Nigel! I decided this past winter I wanted to start some willow trees with cuttings. I remember in a past video you said you didn't change the water in the resivoir, you only watered when it was low. Did the water smell bad after a while? After about a week mine smelled very rotten and changing the water made sense to me. The tree looked okay in health, all of my willows battled aphids, canker, servere dieback, fungus, etc. A few didn't make it but they are on the uphill now that everything is taken care of. I am also using rainwater would you recommend I boil it? Thank you for all of the information on willows, it has been exteremly helpful referencing your videos.

@TheBonsaiZone
@TheBonsaiZone 5 жыл бұрын
It is best to hold off the fertilizer until the tree is growing and needs it. The Bougainvillea likes warm and high humidity, you might want to cover the plant with a clear plastic bag with vent holes in it. Mist the tree regularly and it should recover. keep it out of the direct afternoon sun or it may get too hot in the bag and kill the plant.

I left it out for the first part of winter and then when it started to get colder I brought it in. I'll try and get it in a little earlier next winter! I might place it in the greenhouse after it losses it's leaves, this would offer some early protection too.

How do you grow so much green moss? If the tree is getting lots of sun I’ve seen you have moss even in summer?

If you want, you can use salix viminalis cuttings, which looks better, and i think they don't die that easy like weeping willow (I used them to make avatar tree, and it looks so awesome)

Hi Nigel! Are there any books you would recommend on the clip and grow technique to a beginner just starting out? Also, any tips/previous video you’ve done on growing a tree from a clipping? I’m moving away from the southeastern US soon, and my girlfriend and I really enjoyed the scenery here, and so I’d like to keep a piece of it and nurture it for her. Thanks

Many books include a section on clip and grow, but I can't think of any clip and grow books. Bonsai Empire has an article.... www.bonsaiempire.com/blog/grow-clip There are a few articles on the net and I think this would be the best place to look.
