The beginning “immature” episodes are necessary because they give room for character development. If the show just started off “mature” then we wouldn’t feel like we’ve seen the characters grow so I think that adds a lot to the story

So for A:TLA, here's some quick NON-SPOILER fun facts: -Commander Zhao is voiced by Jason Isaacs (Lucius Malfoy) and since Holden made a Samurai Jack reference in this video, Uncle Iroh is voiced by Mako Iwamatsu (Aku from Samurai Jack) -Each elements bending movements are based on real martial arts -Earthbending: Hung Gar Kung Fu -Firebending: Northern Shaolin Kung Fu -Waterbending: Tai Chi -Airbending: Baguazhang -The show was animated in Korea, so not technically an anime -There was a real martial arts master Sifu Kisu who would perform the martial arts in front of the animators for reference and they would have the animators learn some of the fight scenes -Multiple episodes directed by Dave Filoni, which I believe is where he met Dee Bradley Baker who does the voice of both Appa and Momo, who is also the voice of all of the clones in Clone Wars! -The four nations are essentially modeled after (but not a direct copy of) real cultures: Inuit tribes (Northern and Southern Water Tribes), Imperial Japan (Fire Nation), Monarchist China (Earth Kingdom), and Tibetan Buddhist Monks (Air Nomads)

This is not, in fact, _the_ greatest show ever made, as I've heard some claim it to be. That doesn't necessarily mean it's anything less than a really excellent show, just maybe it's not as superlative as some make it out to be. As a show aimed primarily at kids, though, I have to say it's really high up there.

Especially being that while obviously aimed at kids, it also is serious enough to deal with some intensely mature issues as well. It's not the greatest show ever made. But it's more than likely the greatest American animated series in history. It wouldn't be incorrect to refer to it as a genuine masterpiece of animation.

Season 1 is a great 1st season. It needs a few episodes to get its footing for what it wants to be later on, but even the very beginning has very strong writing. Season’s 2-3 are just absolutely incredible, and will have you hooked the entire season. This is my personal favorite show of all time, animated or otherwise. Hope you guys enjoy!

And speaking of the very beginning, what I love about when Katara introduces Aang to the "whole village" and later goes penguin sledding and says "I haven't had this much fun since I was a kid" (or whatever, I'm paraphrasing) and Aang says "You still ARE a kid!"-- It contextualizes what she and Sokka have truly lost. Their entire culture and childhood were taken from them by this war. Even as early as the first couple episodes, this show laid groundwork for the serious themes it would be tackling later. Incredible. I love it!

I just watched this myself a couple of months ago for the first time. I didn't like it at first but it sure did grow on me and I would recommend it to anyone. However, its not nearly as good as Arcane has been so far and its not as good as The Legend of Vox Machina has been so far. Of course these are just my opinions and I'm betting you disagree with me which is ok.

@@HouseAtlantic A lot of it is probably age dependent. If you saw the show when it first came out it was the best thing ever. For me I was 48 when I watched Avatar for the first time earlier this year. The first couple of episodes for me were really rough but it did get better. Where as Arcane and The Legend of Vox Machina are much more mature with violence language and even some nudity. Those shows sit better with me. I'm betting many people wouldn't like them as much and maybe be offended by it.

There is a great story about the history of Critical Role and how the show came to be. Azula's voice actor by Grey Griffin/DeLisle does the voice of Delilah Briarwood in the Legend of Vox Machina.

I know that Holdman isnt really into the animated scene, but i think that with the proper guidance from this channel, youll understand just how much time and creative energy went into this masterpiece. One of my all-time favorite shows. It was so cool and blew my mind as a kid and has become more and more beautiful and heartfelt as I grew up (now almost 30). It's one that I've regularly rewatched as a comfort show and when I just need some goodness in my life. It explains a lot about the world and how we interact with each other as people and shows us that the mistakes of the past, previous decisions or choices, don't have to dictate our future, and so much more positive messaging in this series. I also have a cat named Zuko, one of the best-written characters in movies or TV. I'm always excited to see people discover this show as it's brought so much joy to me. It's such a little gold nugget, enjoy.

A few fun facts to know (not spoilers): Zhao, the guy with the big sideburns that fought Zuko in an Agi Kai, he's voiced by Jason Isaacs, Lucius Malfoy himself. The bending martial arts are based on *real* martial arts. Water Bending is inspired by Tai chi Earth Bending is inspired by Hung Gar Air Bending is inspired by Bagua zhang Fire Bending is inspired by Northern Shaolin style kung fu They used reference footage from real martial art people to animate and choreograph the fight scenes for this show.

(no spoilers, dont worry) Such a good story and characters packed into a kid friendly cartoon, top notch martial arts choreography and an fantastic world with creative but believable creatures and so on. One of the best animated shows ever created! Don't worry about it being "too childish"! While the first season contains the worst episode of the show (the great divide), every episode, even when its filler delivers great exposition and character developement, gives us the lore of the world or subtly explains the motivations of the characters. And even season one has some really serious episodes/moments.

It's hard to view this series without nostalgia glasses, but I genuinely think this is one of the most consistently very good-great animated shows from start to finish. There are less than a handful of "filler"/wasted episodes in the whole run with most in this season, and it really does find a good balance of innocent humor and mature conflict in an interesting world. I've been waiting for this moment since Avatar the Last Airbender first aired on Nickelodeon. Back then I couldn't wait for Holden and his Wife to so a series on it.

This show has some of the best character development out there. The first season is definitely more kid friendly. It doesn't get overly dark, but it definitely shifts the tone quite a bit as the season progresses. There are some episodes in particular that are much darker than others.

This is definitely the show I'm subbing for, atla is seriously such a great show. I also really love watching 5 episode per video it lines up well with the 20ish episodes per season!

I'm 28 years old and to this day I still believe this is one of the best animated series of all time. It definitely becomes quite a bit more serious and adult relatable nearing the end of Book 1, then carries that along with the humor through the next two books 🤘🤘🙏🙏

Yess!!! This is honestly probably my favorite show ever. followed closely by Stranger Things. I had very similar doubts when I first watched it all the way through back in highschool, but it exceeded my expectations. I’d say episode 12 and on of season 1 is where it starts to pick up.

I'm a major animation nerd and despite how old this show is by now and how many amazing series are out there, Avatar remains in top 3 best Western animated series for all ages. Yes, this specific category but it is very very broad. You're in for a treat.
