I mean, a grown ass man wants to be in one of the most criticised professions and gets pouty at the feedback? He married her knowing how she was and that she was direct and didn't do false praise. If he wants to get out of the home, go! He isn't incarcerated, he is a stay at home dad because he wants to be, he made the choice and kept the choice. OP could be softer with their kid, but the man is a grown up and knew his wife very well as they should have dated for a while before marriage, and he has seen her behaviour for years. The guy is a big baby and needs to grow the fuck up already.

It's significantly different when you're just trying to celebrate your accomplishment with your SO and they beat you down like that. It's not what was said, it's not that it was critical, it was that he wasn't looking for *real* feedback right then and just wanted his SO to celebrate with him. I interpreted the 'you ruined this forever' comment to mean 'your comments ruined my first experience forever because you can't ever do anything for the first time again'. Firsts are important and he'll never have a first standup routine again, and anytime he thinks about how he started out, he just remembers how his SO wasn't supportive. I get both sides, but I feel bad for everybody beating this guy down so much.

I was just thinking this and Reddit can be a-holes themselves. When he said he threw up multiple times, I knew it had to be very bad. A roofie wasn't even on my mind! I actually have been that sick multiple times. I can remember most things up until the symptoms got really bad

I've woken up in beds I've never seen before because of fevers and flu's. It's totally possible and the Reddit hivemind is absolutely out of line claiming that it isn't possible. That entire story just felt like the Reddit mob beating this guy down over misinformation about what sicknesses can and can't do, and then used that as a jumping off point to continue insulting everything about him. Speaks a lot about him to let strangers on the internet convince him he's a bad person based on a situation that they don't know much about in the first place.

So, OP was genuinely frightened of his dad and TOLD Celine that he would be studying for the next month, and she is bent, because he won't talk to her. Also, having had a fever where I had no idea what was happening, and having a brother who lost an entire week to high fever (and he was in hospital, which is the only reason he is alive today), I believe op when he said he had no idea. Finally, I used to sleep talk, sleep walk, and sleep strip (when it's too hot), so I absolutely believe OP. I think his roommate set him up, and Celine was way, way too ready to believe he did wrong. I think him losing her was a good thing and hope he finds happiness away from paranoid girlfriends and abusive parents.

Yes exactly and op doesn’t even know why his shirt was off he could’ve taken it off because it had vomit on it or as he said maybe he got hot. Fr. Did Celine not pass the couch on the way to the room? Was Kaya even there? Did she not read the messages or see the missed calls that explained he was very sick or had been at the hospital? Not only that but she didn't even let him explain and on top of that agreed to it when he said he wouldn't talk to her much and even knew of his situation with his dad. Celine has a right to have her boundaries respected but she should've just told him that living with Kaya was a deal breaker because she didn't want to risk it since they live together and she's not there. I feel bad that OP got torn apart because reddit doesn't understand how real life works and that Celine got seen as valid for shutting him out without proof or an explanation and just up and disappearing without hearing him out. Being cheated on sucks. But treating everyone like a potential cheater, what's even the point of trying to date anyone? She even admitted Kaya didn't know. So her Ex was the problem. Not Kaya. Kaya clearly isn't with the Ex still, so doesn't condone cheating herself. But assumed Kaya would try to sleep with OP? It sounds like Celine really wasn't ready for another relationship and needs therapy.

Yeah well I'm just triggered by people who say you're making excuses when you tell them about an issue that lead to you behaving in a certain way. My dad yesterday told me that he's *fed up* with me hiding behind my autism and BPD. This was exactly two sentences after I told him that I'm autistic and what autism is. I told him that before I got diagnosed I didn't know how to live with myself so I tell him in case he also wants to live with me

I'm on my way to being diagnosed with ADHD, and thought it completely accounted for my mistakes and issues from making bad decisions, and not coping, but my family still refuse to take this on board. Story three honestly gets me pretty steamed... Not because what happened was so over the top inexcusable, but because nobody knows the difference between an excuse and extra information. And excuse is trying to get out of something. Extra information HELPS YOU HELP THEM. "I grew up never getting constructive criticism from my mother, I messed up, wow" isn't an excuse for anything. The OP isn't trying to lessen the blow, but it does tell you things that could alter what your advise is. Admonishing someone doesn't really help unless you can tell them why what they did is wrong. Otherwise you're being just as much of a butthole, only in it to feel smug. You should want background to help you help them, it's really not a hard concept, but nobody knows what healthy communication is, apparently.

The OP in the last story was so fortunate to come out unscathed. What a lot of people that were against OP don’t realize is that such allegations tend to be a guilty until proven innocent in the court of public opinion. Just imagine if OP moved back in and that stepson convinces his little sister to make an accusation for something worse than abuse. He was completely right to remove himself and his own daughter from the situation. He is cognizant of the current state of the world today. What’s sad is that this went down because the adults did the correct move in the situation. Thinking of the Star Trek quote “you can make all the correct moves and still lose.”

His problem is that he had a crush on a friend, who has been married for quite a while no less, and had a hissyfit because he wishes he was with Derek and the ramen was just an excuse to be an ass to OP. It sounded a bit like he had some kind of crush or at least an unhealthy attachment to all of his guy friends, since he bitched about their partners too. He probably is having a mental health issue, and it caused him to finally let out all the awful things he was bottling inside. Given how his mom responded, he obviously has some misogyny instilled in him, and OP being a woman married to his crush, she got the most of his ire. He definitely needs help, but it would be pretty hard to convince him to seek therapy. His volatile temper and hostility would make a suggestion like that seem more like an insult to him than genuine care and concern.

The private school story blows. I can tell you from many diff friends and family that step parents not being allowed to help parent the kids never works out. One story i know all intimate details is my fiances. He had a rocky childhood in which his dad took of with them in the middle of the night and got emergency custody. So when his dad met stepmom and was pushed into heavy religion bc "they couldn't be unequally yolked", along with the heavy fire and brimestone christian church and new step mom he was also dealing wirh visitation with bio mom. Over the years it developed into step mom could ground them but their dad couldnt do anything to her son. My fiance ended up being the one always in trouble bc he was the older of the two and the boy, as well as his older step brother blaming him an awful lot. Funny part is out of the 3 that were in the house... hers overdosed (not funny but is what happens sometime when a kid has free rain to do whatever), his sister has 3 kids by 3 daddys and hops from new step daddy to new step daddy; my fiance on the other hand we have two really respectful kids, we live with his gpa who is aging and needs help to live, and unlike his sister have actually poured into our kids education (she's homeschooling and has a 5th grader and a 3rd who can barely read, literally my kindergartener reads circles around her kids after only learning how to read this year.🤦‍♀️) . Literally our only "flaw" compared to the others is that we have made a game about not being married lol but all that to say he resented the fuuuuuuuck out of them until he was like 30, still only as close as he has to be and doesn't put in a ton of effort with them. All because his dad was harsh bc step mom would whine, step mom was harsh, "god" was harsh, etc and noone else got treated so terrible.

(edited for typo's) I would be super shitty at pretending a joke was amaaaazing if it wasn't. Being forced to 'lie-to-be-nice' isn't fair, because lying doesn't come naturally to everyone (Personally, I turn red and stammery when I try). There's always SOMETHING you can find to praise. Even if it's 'just' the bravery it took to try something at all. And OP absolutely did offer great praise, as hearing after your FIRST TRY that you have "great stage presence" should absolutely be exiting and encouraging! But If you can't handle honest critcism, then you shouldn't ask for it. Personally, fake smiles TERRIFY me (I'm not kidding. It's the stuff of my nightmares). So I'll take the painful truth any day. As I once heard Emma Tompson say in an interview to a child actor: "When something doesn't work, it hurts, and then you try something new and different. Which often leads to interesting things. But if something is a hit, it feels great for a while. And then that passes, and THEN what do you do?" The nasty side of success is that it also creates intense expectations and scrutiny. Which is why there are so many one-hit-wonders and even companies that implode right after peaking. So could you even HANDLE success if you can't handle criticism? And how would you even know what it was that caused it to work?

Last story... Initially I didn't think he was the a-hole, but in the end my decision was that he actually is the a-hole.... Leaving his wife is his decision and he's not the a-hole for that, but for not acting like an adult. I would understand this whole situation if the kid wasn't 10, but he is. Kids of that age do not know consequences. Having a talk and showing the consequences would have taught the kid a lot. But now the mom doesn't contact her son anymore, which makes her the biggest a-hole in this story to be honest... The poor kid made a bad decision, but his life shouldn't be ruined because of that. It's a kid ffs...
@agelesssea7109

I really think he was acting like an adult here and just thinking of his daughter first. The mother's decision to leave her son was her decision and her decision alone. could have chosen to teach him, could have chosen to stay with her child and separate with her husband. He didn't make her do any of the things she did. On the other hand, if he stayed with the mom, his daughter could've lost her dad and had to live with the person who did that to her. I really think the fact that the son's mom doesn't contact him anymore is the fault of the son and his mom, not the OP.

I understand where you are coming from but I'm sorry, OP is not an a-hole for not wanting to be in the same house as the son. As OP said he has a lot of power with 0 responsibility since he is a child. Being a child does not negate the fact that his accusation can have a damaging effect on OP's life. And having "a talk" doesn't always work like people seem to think that it does which is funny because you just gave a reason *why* it might not work. He's 10. Showing him the consequences of his lie doesn't necessarily mean he will understand. That's why child psychologists always say to talk to a child at their level when it comes to explaining things. They *won't* understand even when they see consequences to their actions. Remember the Salem Witch trials and the Satanic Panic to see exactly what I mean. Some of the accusers were as young as 7 during the Salem Witch trials. During the Satanic Panic, some children were younger than that. Some *did* realize their mistakes and recanted.. that did not immediately free people. As for the other children? The best way I can describe it as they view it as getting rid of people they don't like. And *that is how children view situations like that! They are getting rid of people they don't like* which is why the son said what he did in the first place. He was 10. Not 5. Not 6. 10. He said what he did to get his step-dad into trouble.

Fuck you mean, yes they do, 10 years old is around the age you're supposed to understand what consequences are. Is he to know all of them, no, obviously not, but he intentionally hurt his step dad, knowing his mom loves him, and thus that he hurt his mom by proxy. If he doesn't, then it's because his parents are failing him. And regardless, op wasn't the one that told his mom to stop contacting him in general, or anything like that, he literally said he didn't expect her to give up on him, and that he'll leave due to it being unsafe with that kid. His mom's actions are her's and her's alone. You're removing agency and responsibility from multiple parties handling of the situation and blaming op for them. Meaning your a horrible person.

That last story is all kinds of effed up. Why do Reddit commenters always divide children up in either pure innocent puppies or manipulative criminals who deserve zero consideration for their age? Because let me tell you: 100% of children are neither of those. Children often do wrong BECAUSE of their innocence. That's called "learning", because in the end innocence (at least the specific kind that children are supposed to have) comes down to a simple lack of information /motivation behind their actions. The adults in this story put 100% of the responsibility for an ENTIRE family exploding, squarely on the shoulders of a little 10 yo who just did what 10 yo's do: lie. There's NO WAY IN HELL that child realized ahead what his lie could cause. Because that is THE difference between children and adults. Adults are expected to have learned to predict the consequences of their actions - children can't possibly do that, as their brains aren't fully developed yet and they lack experience and coping skills. And yes, 10 yo's can be manipulative (so can 1 yo's for that matter), but it's the adults' job to be smart enough to see through that. Because let's be honest, 10 yo kiddie-lies are not that sophisticated, as illustrated by this story when the lie quickly apart once OP's wife actually started talking with the boy. The obvious solution here would have been to start family therapy with the entire family. It's deeply disturbing that seemingly no one has bothered to even find out why the boy lied. Because kids telling big bad lies CAN be a symptom of something being very wrong elsewhere in their life. I have a friend who as a young kid was known by her family and school to be a pathological liar, until they found out she was being sexually abused by an older boy. And she couldn't tell anyone about because she was living under all sorts of threats, so her emotions manifested itself as habitual lying which may have been her way to test if no one would abandon her for being bad. This little boy told ONE lie, and he was IMMEDIATELY thrown away like trash. And what was his mom supposed to do? You should see Reddit when a parent DOESN'T take their child's accusations against their partner seriously. Like seriously, I get that OP is scared, but WTAF!? If the only solution to one kiddie-fib is to blow up an entire family without even trying any professional help, then there was already WAY more wrong than just that one lie. (And yes, I know kiddie-fib sounds un-serious, but come on! The lie had already been dismantled long before OP decided to file for divorce.)

the comedy dude one just pissed me off but not at op, the comments are ridiculous, she’s not using it as an excuse because it isn’t one, it is a fact of the matter, she obviously won’t know how to give feedback if she never got it and was never taught, and if you want to do ANYTHING that involves a group of people then criticism will happen whether you like it or not

41:05 as a person who gets sick often, I can definitely say it's possible as I can count 7 times I feel asleep sick in the couch only to wake up in bed in pajamas cold. There's a huge thing called deep sleep people go in around the 3 hour mark that makes it impossible to remember things than as usually, your asleep at that point so your mind thinks it is unless you condition your to wake up at every single sound

The last story is a reason why I chose to stay single after my divorce until my children go off to college. I wouldn't want to mess up anybody's life because of my children 's actions or my kids life be ruined because of me choosing the wrong person. Sometimes being single is a good thing.

There is a bit of social conditioning with the stand up story. Her mom was blunt so she learned to be blunt. And in her work, she's likewise praised for being blunt. That's the tried and true method that she knows how to opperate on. It just wasn't optimal for someone needing a confidence boost or word of support.

When it came to the husband wanting to do comedy i cursed those redditors so much and the husband need to grow up like you wanna do comedy and isn't able to take a little of Critisism

That wasn't the issue, the issue is that his wife wasn't supportive for his first show right after he got finished with it, the husband himself stated that if she gave said criticism at a different time he would of understood it, like ofc he got defensive right after he thought he did a good job

The dissolving friend group story? The OP and her friends are fucking stupid for calling it a "crush". The guy just misses his friends. He watched everyone get SO's and stop having as much time for him. Wanting to spend time with his friends doesn't make him gay. That's probably why he kicked them out as soon as they brought it up, and left soon after. Their "acceptance" was really just stupid assumption.

All of the parents in the last one suck. The father sucks for giving the mother a crap ultimatum regarding a 10 year that could have easily been taught what he did was wrong. The mother sucks for actually going through with it and ghosting a fucking 10 year old for 10 year old behavior. And the father sucks again for divorcing his wife after finding out that she’s pregnant with his kid, all because he can’t handle teaching a 10 year old.

I disagree in part, because false accusations like that can and have ruin someone‘s life. I think removing himself from the situation is the best thing, he could have done. The parents need to explain to the 10 years old, what his accusations could mean for OPs future. The part I agree with, is that the mother sucks for ghosting a 10 year old and that there could have been steps taken before the divorce.

The stand-up comedy story... husband sucks at comedy (kinda) and the wife is honest about it, and commenters tell OP she has an under-developed personality... If you, as a husband, tell your wife "yes honey, you look fat in that" and make a joke of it somehow, or are just harshly honest after telling your SO several times to stop with the shit-test questions, that isn't you having an under-developed personality, this is you checking your SO on his/her insecurities (assuming you aren't being malicious and digging into your SO with abusive comments and actions). These are incredibly thin-skinned people if this is all it takes to "destroy their motivation." And that isn't funny, it's just sad.

If he didn‘t want criticism, he shouldn‘t have asked. And if he didn‘t want it to be pointed out, that few people laughed, he should have run the jokes by someone beforehand. OP might not be as diplomatic as possible, but she gave constructive criticism and said something nice. The husband is just acting childish.

Man said “actually, I’ve never seen an anvil fall onto somebodys head… unfortunately” Ok 👍🏼 I guess that’s fine 😅 Edit: So at the time I made this comment I hadn’t watched the full video (still haven’t) and I just wana say something about the Roblox one that triggered something in me Me and my Aunt/BFF play and I found it pretty triggering that the niece stole something that cost Rubox that cost money that the daughter earned and it is a game for all ages, a lot of adults play and I bet they would get mad if someone stole something from them that they needed to spend money for and that probably also find it a game to cure boredom and make friends Me personally I don’t play it that much but I find it fun too play as that’s the way I get some gaming time with my BFF

Story 1: I know this isnt the point but its really sad how Nazis ruined things for other cultures. Arian is a beautiful & meaningful name in India, Afghanistan and Wales but unfortunately it is associated with evil people. Currently American Neo-Nazi racists are misappropriating Norse/Viking mythology and pagan symbols for their hate. I really hope in the future, a beautiful name like Freya won't send shivers down people's spines like Arian or Aryan.
