Not necessarily. Low self esteem or loneliness and feelings of not being in control is often medicated with spending, plastic surgery, entertainment, stimulating the dopamine and oxytocin and euphoric feelings one isn’t getting during emotional, psychological, spiritual personal crisis. Yes, fantasies of imminent singlehood is still also a possibility, but I think she needs to be in therapy before any determination of her real desires and status of the marriage are made. There are FOUR YOUNG children involved…she might just be having a mommy meltdown and her husband is the rock who will see her through if he can get courage, wisdom and good counseling

Unfortunately, so many people don’t understand what the word love means. Love requires truth and protection and as men we are required to lead. This man sounds weak and he needs to kindly put his foot down and follow Dave’s advice. 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 "Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres."

This call reminded me so much of my ex girlfriend. The problem doesn't always manifest itself in the form of frivolous spending, but when someone refuses to see a therapist, they are admitting that they are not mature enough to take responsibility for their shortcomings and work on them. Until someone decides to look in the mirror, they will never have a healthy relationship with themselves or anyone else.

This caller personifies the "Nice Guy" described in Dr. Glover's "No More Mr. Nice Guy" - He gives to get, he makes his wife his emotional center, and he lets his wife's mood & feelings guide what he does - he's always reacting to her. When he makes her happy, then he's a good boy. Over time, the wife begins to resent her husband being afraid for voicing his own preferences, since he acts like he's in constant dread of losing his wife's affection. And when she doesn't show reciprocal appreciation for all the nice things he's done for her, he gets mad & resentful towards her, and the downward spiral continues.

I've been divorced and I can tell you it's best to just talk it out and be open and honest. It's always how you say it to each other. Just say you're stressed and you could really use her help. If she still says **** you and doesn't want to work it out it's best to part ways. I'm trying to give good advice because knowing what I know now, it's always good to just be open and honest. Everybody has needs and wants but it's best to keep it out in the open as far as what you want out of life.

I have a tendency to spend too much. As a single female, in 2008 I saw my own trajectory of heading towards financial ruin and Googled 'financial independence' to find out what helps are available. Financial Peace University popped up and I took the nearest class. I continue to fight this self-destructive tendency 16 years later and have recently (in the last 2 months) balanced my budget. It is a continuing struggle but I have the same determination to be successful at this as I was in finishing my bachelor's degree and landing a career. IDK why I am this way - maybe something sub-conscious from childhood? My parents went bankrupt twice. Anyway, I know that I am a steward of this income I receive every month and send my thanks to Dave and his team for all the financial education!
