Had no idea these riffs would be so catchy and surprisingly technical. Almost as good as bizkit
@bellowick

Disturbed are so underrated in terms of technicality. I play rocksmith from time to time (great when you just want to play your favourite songs without dedicating days without perfecting it), tried some of Disturbed songs and had to focus really hard and practice some of the riffs for a few of them. Probably gonna get hate for saying this, but these riffs give me the same desire to just play riffs all day as Killswitch Engage and Deftones do.

@MKBoricuaIt's important to remember that it's music, not gymnastics. Easy riffs are sometimes the best riffs.
@Patrick-857
@Patrick-857 10 ай бұрын
@MKBoricua It's not really subjective to state that technicality and how difficult a piece is to play has no connection with it's musicality.
@Patrick-857
@Patrick-857 10 ай бұрын
@MKBoricua Clearly you miss my point, which is a general one, not specific to these particular riffs. You sound like a snob. Some of the simplest music is also the greatest music. Making something complicated for the sake of it is easy, if you have a decent amount of technique. Writing something simple that is memorable, exciting, and stands the test of time, that's hard. That takes exceptional talent. Technically proficient players are a dime a dozen these days, and for the most part their music is exceptionally boring and uninspired. But a single note from David Gilmour or Mark Knopfler, that's something. I'd rather listen to the extremely basic riffs of Sad But True by Metallica, than most of this stuff. I love Tool because their music isn't complex for the sake of it, it's complexity that serves a purpose and sounds good. It takes you on a journey. Smoke on the Water is stupidly simple, yet I never got bored hearing it. Same with Seven Nation Army. I like all kinds of crazy stuff, as well as popular stuff, and I can say without any doubt, that music being hard to play does not correlate with it being good music. The two things are independent of each other. That's a fact. Also, snobbery isn't cool. Rock n roll has roots in folk music. Folk music is supposed to be simple, so that it can be passed on through an oral tradition, and enjoyed by anyone. Classical was the opposite of this and very much filled with clsssicism and snobbery, but even then the best classical music, that has stood the test of time has an element of catchy simplicity to it.
@Patrick-857
@Patrick-857 10 ай бұрын
@MKBoricua Those are just examples. And while that is of course my subjective taste, these songs are far more popular than any of the music that's technical for the sake of it. You're focusing on those throwaway examples though, once again ignoring my core argument, which is that there's no correlation between how good a piece is, and how difficult it is to play. That's a factual statement on my part, and I stand by it. I'll die on that hill, because music isn't supposed to be a competition, or an ego trip. It's not supposed to be about showing off technical skill, or anything like that. You come of as a condescending snob, an elitist, and you insulting me and calling me "simple minded" really shows that. Also at no point did I say I disliked complex and technically challenging music. It's just when it's painfully obvious that the technicality is all it has to offer that I've got a problem with it. There's nothing wrong with complexity or simplicity. If it's good music, that's all that matters. If "caveman riffs" serve the song, if they get the crowd jumping, if they are fun to listen to, if they convey the feelings of the artist well, then that's all that matters. Your argument is painfully dumb, and yet so common, especially in the metal community. It's like you forgot that it's meant to be music.
@Patrick-857
@Patrick-857 10 ай бұрын
@MKBoricua OK so you're telling me that technical = good then? Just to be sure.
