I love how there are actuality 3 different curses in the film, the one on Stanley's family, the one on Trout's family, and the one on the Green Lake. Love the layers to the film, nothing wasted or insignificant.

@@johnmanzuki8979 I should mention that Shia was 100% willing to (rapidly I might add) gain the weight necessary to portray Stanley as he is at the beginning of the novel, but the director (and potentially a few other higher ups) decided to just have the character be thinner in the adaptation due to the inherent danger of rapid weight gain followed by equally rapid weight loss.

Yeah, the director wanted to make the movie as faithfully as possible and the only exception was that they didn't include Stanley's weight loss because they thought it'd be too dangerous to make Shia put on a ton of weight and then force him to lose it again, and a fat suit just wouldn't have looked good.

Some things they cut from the book: One was just how unhinged the warden really was. In the part where they're all digging where X-Ray said he found the bullet, Armpit was taking a moment to catch his breath. And the Warden sees him standing there, asks him what he's doing, and without any warning, stabs him in the shoulder with a pitchfork. Another was that after the Warden clawed Mr. Sir, the venom made his face swell up, making him even madder than he usually was. And the boys didn't like Zero helping Stanley make his hole even worse than they showed here. They kept on comparing him to a slave master. And since Stanley was one of the few white boys in camp, that made things even worse. And it was kind of mentioned, but the reason why the boys didn't get bitten was cause they ate Sam's onions which had a smell that the lizards didn't like.

I remember in elementary school the movie was pretty new. We read the book and then watched the movie and we were all totally obsessed with it, giving eachother nicknames like in the camp. Deciding, "Who's x-ray? Who's Zero?" Its an understandable difference between the book and movie, but Stanley was actually described as an overweight young man in the books. And guess what? So was I. So it was actually kind of an honor when I was declared the Caveman of the class. It was the first time my overweight-ness was ever acknowledged in a positive way and it helped me have a healthier mental outlook on it to this day, as I continue to struggle on my weight loss journey. I am still obese, but that doesn't change my worth or my ability to do good things. Stanley broke a family curse and helped stop a group of corrupt camp leaders, and his weight had nothing to do with it. It seems almost silly now, but I can't deny how much that little positive acknowledgment meant to me back then.

I would have liked to see a film just about the old west portion of the film, too. Madame Zeroni is Eartha Kitt, one of the three women to portray Catwoman in the 60s (on the TV show). I very much want to see more people react to this movie. This is one of those movies that, if you watch it for the first time too young, you only get the surface story, and the deeper stories don't hit you until much later than if you had watched the movie for the first time at the age you could fully appreciate it. I don't remember how old I was when I first saw it, but I only absorbed the most basic elements of it. I think I could've fully appreciated the story if I watched it for the first time at 14, but didn't fully appreciate it until 18 or 19 because my childish memory of the narrative influenced what parts of the movie I understood between ages 14 and 18.

I love this classic childhood movie. Really the first one that I saw from Shia. If you want more Dule Hill though, he was GREAT in the show Psych. Detective comedy with lots of pop culture references. I feel like not a lot of people have seen or reacted to it, but it has 8 seasons (+ 3 movies and a musical) and a cult following for a reason!

This movie is great and iconic. The first time I fully saw it was 6th grade after we read the book in class but it was so popular I had seen the poster and scenes on Disney channel so many times by that point.
